For those who like to tell themselves that it's OK to boil lobsters alive, life just got a bit more complicated.

All living creatures feel pains! We should all be vegetarians & vegans,! Live animals are living beings like us & treasure their lives, they are not food for humans. Grow a heart & conscience for other beings, it is a God given gift to all! Thanks Jill.

It is possible to kill humanely and quickly before cooking.Everyone needs to know that and do it instead of torturing them!

I've known that in my heart all my life..
How a person can go somewhere, look at a tank, and point and say "that one" is something I thankfully could never wrap my brain around :--(

THANK YOU SO MUCH Jill - for SENDING THIS ONE - Just how ARROGANT WE ARE - first - WE have NO CLUE what ANY CRITTER - from the SMALLEST TO THE LARGEST - GOES THROUGH - as far as PAIN AND SUFFERING - and then WE do what we have DONE - and CONTINUE TO DO - with the OTHER LIFE ON THIS PLANET - and WE have the @#$% to say - DUMB ANIMALS - OK - there are DUMB ANIMALS - but, the ONLY ONES THAT HAVE EVER EXISTED ON THIS PLANET ARE US!!!!!!!!!! AMEN.....

Sending a Green Star is a simple way to say "Thank you"

You cannot currently send a star to Henriette because you have done so within the last week.

Hmmmm, Carrie if you were killed "humanely" you would most probably feel that pain however fleeting. I guess compared to being dumped head first into boiling water or left to slowly steam to death would be more painful. Let's pass on the shellfish.

Another stupid test on animals to prove what we already know is the truth...all that breath oxygen can feel pain unless the pain nerves were damaged.

Why just lobsters, there are prawns, shrimp, crab, so many other crustaceans and shell fish treated the same way. Declaring my comments as being inappropriate as I never eat them, being allergic ,in spite of agreeing they have a lovely taste. As fro vegetarianism being an alternative, there are many who agree even plant life feel pain, as they are yanked from their place, or cut in twain. Only one thing for it. Drink only water, BUT what about all those invisible to the eye animal life infesting the stuff. ? Our own bodies are full of living parasites with even more breathed in with every breath. Guess we will have to keep on devouring each other. I AM being a little ironic.

Tom Edgar, I don't think you even read the article at all. The study was done with crabs, showing that they would actively avoid entering an area where they had previously received a shock . The article also spoke about prawns and other shellfish that could have functioning neurological capacity even as they were being processed for food, and wondered why it was still allowed to treat these animals in such a cruel way, when other animals that are slaughtered for food have some kind of humane standards to be followed. And finally- we KNOW animals can feel fear and pain- whereas plants may or may not. If I get a cut on my finger, my platelets react to the injury and form a clot- but they are not cognizant of my pain!

then again, starfish slowly drill into shells, sharks rip into whatever, fish gulp each other down, not sure how lobsters chow down on smaller fish. Still, boiling to death would be similar to burning in Hell for humans except the time is shorter. Is there someway to cut the nerve endings of the lobster before it gets dunked? Granted not humane, but a step if not giving it up for good.
I think lobsters starve in the tanks with no food and claws pegged...it always looks creepy. Like a spider keeping it's lunch wrapped up in the web before it sucks the insect dry...........brrrrrr Mother Nature isn't always nice.

The only species on earth that doesn't feel pain is actually a sub-species of humans, they are known as "depraved lunatics" and they are categorized by their innate ability to inflict pain and suffering on every other species without compunction, while they themselves feel nothing. It is fervently to be hoped that this sub-species will eventually die out like their neanderthal relatives did.

Surprise, surprise, lobsters and fish feel pain! If lobsters are to be boiled, at least kill them before boiling, not something I could do tho.

Noted, tweeted, read, tweeted, and shared. This is an example that I hate to think about; I am a bit like Scarlett O'Hara who wants to think about it tomorrow. I eat meat and seafood. I don't stop and think about it; I have cut down on my consumption, but I am still not a vegan. Not proud of it; have to work on it.

Yes they do, as do all animals, birds, fish and other creatures of the ocean. They may not show it the way we do, but they don't feel no less.

Christine Stewart I don't think you read MY entry. Apart from my ending by saying I was being ironic. I'll have to believe you are an American for whom irony is a foreign area., I agreed it involved all those other creatures in being killed in a manner that would not be tolerated for warm blooded specie. I don't see what your "Beef" is.(that's no pun)

Nimue, lie much, your 'depraved lunatics' aka sociopaths and psychopaths do feel pain they do not however have empathy.
Tom why be ironic, there is research that proves plants feel pain, that plants no only react to pain but plan/developdefensess to prevent it and have developed means of communicating warnings to others about approaching plant munchers.

Every one of God's creatures feels pain, just like we do. Why are we so obcessed that we are the only ones feeling pain. My dog feels pain and also emotional hurt if I do not play with him often enough.

I'm guessing there are very few living things (except most plants) that don't experience some sort of pain. To think otherwise is just plain ignorant.
