Pony With Overgrown Feet Rescued

Animals  (tags: horses, animals, animalwelfare, protection, rescued )

Unbelievably, the farrier removed almost 30 inches of hoof in the initial trimming of Herbie's feet, making it the most dramatic case of overgrown feet that Kunz, the veterinarian, or the farrier had ever seen.

Poor baby--that must have been not only very painful but unbearable to even do menial work. People can be so unappreciative and cruel to these sweet animals...I'm just happy this sweet boy will never see and feel anything other than care and love! Thanks jill

How the owners would neglect such an important part of Herbie's condition is mind boggling as horse stand on their feet constantly during the day. How he managed to even walk is beyond my comprehension. So pleased he was rescued & Herbie has a forever home where he will be cared for, for the rest of his life. Thanks Jill.

Always a counter-balance to evil ... sometimes not acted upon. This, fortunately, is not one of them.

How cruel of people to neglect an animal this way - I saw poor donkeys in Ireland with overgrown hooves, it's disgusting, the people who let this happen should be horse-whipped! Cretins!

I once took in a Welsh pony that no one wanted. They were afraid of him because he would charge at people, bite, buck, etc. His feet were like this. It took a YEAR to get them even near normal (and a very patient ferrier) and it took that long to gain his trust. These kind of humans make me ill.

I am so happy for this beautiful soul, that someone helped... : /

I saw something similar a few years back in a news story about a woman in Arizona that neglected her horses. Just seeing this is so horrible and ridiculous and really reminds us of the negligent, hateful and stupid people there are in this world that would treat animals this way. They should not only be ashamed, but punished as well. Thanks Jill.

Mistreating on a high level! If you have animals YOU are the one and the one only to see to it, at ALL time! When an animal are in our custody it no longer have the opportunity to get what it needs. Noted.

Thanks to all who aided Herbie in his rescue...
Hopefully this won't result in any permanent pain or injury for this poor little guy. i'm amazed that they were able to remove that much.
But what's up with that "after much negotiation" BS?
Every animal on that property should have been seized and rehomed!

So glad this little pony was saved in time. I agree with Ellen, all animals there should be seized. Thanks Jill!
