Actually, let me tell you something... we all go on about how evil the Chinese are, but the French are not much better! They also have a huge catalogue of cruelty to animals and will eat close to anything that moves.

I'll repeat it. I adore horses and this isn't a story to debate that subject, it's a story to save this beautifull horse. I'll be happy to debate that on a thread for that subject.

And Kathy's right... If we all make a donation of 5 sterling or whatever we can afford, there'll probably be enough to save her. Wish we could save every animal, but unfortunately that´s just not possible. Just now and again, saving one is good for the soul, both the animal's and the donor's. I've just made my donation hoping that my little grain of sand will help.

Why are they slaughtering the\is Horse? os it old or it cannot run anymor?
Ask these people to put their own old parents to similar treatment. Those old parents are also not able to work and earn. So they also must be put to death in the same fashion

I signed had to get up and walk away as tears start to run, for my heart breaks seeing things like this. I too hope they choke. I try to do petitions today but I can't even keep my mind foucsed on them for all I see is animals and I can't sit still very long. noted Kathy

What really upsets me re this is it is the 'horse lovers' of the world that sell their horses on when they have finished with them to an uncrertain end. I never sell off my horses -animal 'ownership' is a custodian role and is for LIFE.

Horse lovers - take responsibility for those who ahe served you.

The greatest victory for a Thoroughbred is not winning a race, but winning the race to live long past their days on the racetrack.

After the Finish Line® , www.afterthefinishline.org, is a 501(c)(3) funding non-profit for Thoroughbred horses that can no longer race or breed. I know people want to help these horses yet don't know who to donate to. After the Finish Line® provides funding to rescue organizations throughout the United States that care for Thoroughbreds. Your donations can save a horse at auction from going to slaughter, pay for surgery or medical expenses, provide hay and feed, pay boarding expenses, or transport a Thoroughbred to safety.

When I watch the races my wish is for all the horses to come home safe. When I watched the Kentucky Derby I thought my wish came true. To see the beautiful Eight Belles suffer a tragic injury resulting in her death on the racetrack made me sad and angry. I'd like to thank those who made donations to After the Finish Line® in memory of Eight Belles.

Racetracks would not exist without the horses. They are the entertainers. Because of them people are employed and others earn income from winning bets. Yet why are the Thoroughbreds forgotten in their time of need? Hopefully, one day, sending horses to slaughter won't be an accepted practice in racing.


Marcus
This month our Emergency Funds were given to a 2 year old Thoroughbred needing hernia surgery. Marcus was sent to a New Jersey auction because his owner didn't think he had the talent to race. Luckily Marcus was rescued by Equine Rescue Resource. Ownership of Marcus was then transferred to Bella Horse Rescue. With the help of Double L Stable Equine Rescue and Sanctuary surgery was arranged for this beautiful horse. He will recuperate with Double L who is donating a month of care for Marcus. Marcus will then be transported to Bella Horse Rescue where he will be cared for and trained for a non-racing career. Distance is not a factor in helping the Thoroughbreds. These rescues are located in New York which is nearly 3,000 miles away from me in California.
After the Finish Line® also gave two new horse blankets to Second Chance Ranch. With the rainy weather in Washington State these blankets will be put to good use.

Here's a heartfelt THANK YOU to all of you involved in Thoroughbred racehorse rescue. We dedicate our time and our resources to save these magnificent horses from being sent to slaughter.

In April and May we have received some wonderful press in both print and on TV. This includes the San Diego Tribune's article "No finish with this line" and News 8 :: KFMB Stations, San Diego, California story "Retraining Rescued Thoroughbreds. Our national press in Thoroughbred Style magazine includes the article, "Finding a New Way to Help Horses", and an endorsement advertisement.

After the Finish Line® provides a voice for the Thoroughbred horses. The funding provided by After the Finish Line® will enable rescue organizations to save and care for more Thoroughbreds. Thank you Linda for the information.
What I'd love to see happen is for all race tracks closed down along with all greyhound race tracks. First it would stop the over breeding of these animals, who through no fault of their own usually pay with their lives. Much suffering would end. And as for man kind, those who have gambling fever or bad betting problems and throw the whole paycheck away would be much better off. Especially the wives and kids sitting at home waiting for dad to get home so they can go to the grocery store:(

It's happening to all these animals, every kind of animal imaginable, used for selfish people, food, fur. What makes mankind think someone won't come after us? When will someone look at a human and say, "hmmmm could be tasty", wouldn't surprise me to find a group singled out this way! There is no line to cross here, people take what they want, much of mankind has no morals. Look at all the genocide, history should teach us this could happen. Nope, won't surprise me one bit to find humans next on that gourmet list.. thnx Kathy
