I have signed the petition, and will follow up with letters and phone calls. Also if interested there is another story directly related to this at: (posted by Kit H.)

This too addresses world hunger.

Question: Can we afford to use food products as gasoline? Yes, I do realize this makes many people wealthy on the commodities market, but what do these people produce? Are they creating jobs and offering food or just accumulating empty wealth? For me this is important, as this is but one of many problems we should be thinking about how to solve. We really don't need to add corn or other food to our gasoline, it's an artificial market that solves nothing but creates more problems.

Already signed Carol, Thanks you.

I wonder why close to one billion people are chronically hungry?!
Because our politicians and corporations spent their time and money to kill peoples to design new killing machines and WMD. to fire wars and fights. Thats why those peoples are hungry.

Because the no one cares about them,
What kind of humans we are !!

Kudos for you Carol and for everyone who care about them. We have to work together and not to allow such a thing happen in our world.

3 August 2010 – A United Nations-drafted petition that aims to encourage governments to make the elimination of hunger their top priority has so far been signed by more than 250,000 people and is on track to achieve its goal of a million signatures by the end of November, the UN agriculture agency said today.

The amount of food wasted in a week in the UK alone could feed it's whole population free for a week or even two weeks in some cases. That is why food prices are high, and that is why there is also a disgraceful waste of meat and fish - Why are they not frozen at the end of the day instead of thrown away, perfectly good fish and meat !!! FREEZE IMMEDIATELY and re-sell cheaply or give to charitable causes.

Also Over Population ! We as a World can only really sustain a population of ONE BILLION - !! THAT is Shocking to hear I know, but that is a Scientific theory put forward by eminent Scientists. We all know this world is overcrowded, but only China have addressed the issue. So an awareness shift needs to happen, and a limit of two children per couple, or per person, needs to be understood as 'the norm'. It would possibly be long time economical anyway for Vasectomies to be encouraged after a man had had his two children ?

Victoria B (36)

Quais - I had no idea about the wastage in the Arab World - thank you for telling me and everyone else, it is great that we can compare our Nations and see that there must be a shift in attitude as to the poor and the hungry. It seems that without the wastage, monies can be redirected to properly help those in need. Also you mentioned monies being spent on Weaponry and Wars, - a peaceful alternative to reducing population is preferable to anihalating large pockets of people through warfare. Why are there always wars in Africa, who sponsors or encourages them? Who is going to win access to the rich mineral deposits there? Why is Africa kept in such poverty? There is no need or reason apart from exploitation, even within Africa itself the tribal systems mean that there are many hands grasping greedily whilst neighbours and particularly children suffer. They all want to come and live in the West, but the irony is that they are probably the richest nations in the world for self sustainability, they just haven't stopped bickering like children long enough to properly develop themselves. They too could be living like the Western World.
They just need to grow up.

Already signed and noted. Thanks for the post, dear Carole, and for the reminder of other petitions, Ben. And my post, too, Qais.
We need to ACT !! Signing the petitions to send the message to the politicians, is one thing, but let's also start from our own children and neighbors. Educate them, let them known and think about the world hunger.
(Sadly, too many children already know it too well...)

It's a terrible thing! Yet so many people are resentful and peevish when you tell them them that the world is hungry. The mantra of the spoiled and over fed is "it's not my problem, they should go out and get a job and stop sponging off my tax dollars"! How ungrateful are we, the fed watered and cared for?? Thanks for this reminder the keep our attention fixed in the right place.

Anbyone who eats meat and dairy contributes to world hunger we can't always blame the govenrment...go look at your own faults for a minute and consider these few things...then consider a vegan lifestyle...

." It takes up to 16 pounds of grain to produce just 1 pound of edible animal flesh.

"animals raised for food have to eat as many as 16 pounds of grain to create just 1 pound of edible flesh."

"It takes 5,214 gallons of water to produce a pound of beef. One acre of land can produce 20,000 pounds of potatoes. One acre of land can produce 165 pounds of beef."

"We can all make vegan choices for a kinder world in many ways, including for those hungry people in the world"

Christians should stand up… and fight...

Christian ministries should be helping the poor and hungry around the world instead of buying and displaying golden throne chairs, big rings and outlandish expensive clothes… Too much emphasis is being placed on spreading ministries over actually helping others… actually helping those in need...

Thanks to everyone for helping to spread awareness of this monstrous -- and yet, preventable -- situation.

Please sign and circulate EVERY news article, petition and action you see. You may reach a special niche of people unknown to others involved, who will also do the same . . . and so on.

Greed, ignorance and apathy are the only reasons this continues.

Linda B......I agree!!

But truly what makes me mad as hell is people "DO NOT" stop to think
of limiting the size of their families. Underdeveloped countries are ensnarled
in old beliefs & customs that women are literally forced to birth & then carry
the burden of trying to feed their children.

Uneducated or not women worldwide deserve to educated on birth control
and abortion if necessary. We can beg, plead all we want to help the starving
but until we educate on a worldwide basis to have one child we/me/you are
forever going to be confronted with starvation staring us in the face.

Give em food, educate & then give em the pill or whatever works!!!!!!

Plant & protect trees for life......................

"And what is the treasure of generosity? There is the case of a disciple of the noble ones, his awareness cleansed of the stain of stinginess, living at home, freely generous, openhanded, delighting in being magnanimous, responsive to requests, delighting in the distribution of alms. This is called the treasure of generosity." — AN VII.6

[The Buddha:] "Then there is the case where a certain person refrains from taking life, refrains from taking what is not given, refrains from sensual misconduct, refrains from false speech, refrains from divisive speech, refrains from abusive speech, refrains from idle chatter, is not covetous, bears no ill will, and has right views. And he gives food, drink, cloth, vehicles, garlands, scents, creams, bed, lodging, & lamps to priests & contemplatives. With the break-up of the body, after death, he reappears in the company of human beings. There he experiences the five strings of human sensuality [delightful sights, sounds, smells, tastes, tactile sensations]. It's because he refrained from taking what is not given, refrained from sensual misconduct, refrained from false speech, refrained from divisive speech, refrained from abusive speech, refrained from idle chatter, was not covetous, bore no ill will, and had right views that he reappears in the company of human beings. And it's because he gave food, drink, cloth, vehicles, garlands, scents, creams, bed, lodging, & lamps to priests & contemplatives that he experiences the five strings of human sensuality.

We can help feed the hungry through the UN's site For each correct answer you earn 10 grains of rice...there is no day I earned 40,000 and would have kept going except my mouse wrist and thumb gave out.
