Thank you! Your lobbying has made a difference. Last week, the Senate passed legislation that approves the Cobell trust fund case, clearing the way for half a million Native Americans to receive the money that the federal government owes them for the use of their land. The bill was passed by "unanimous consent" in an expedited process. Please let you senators know you celebrate final passage of this bill.

Well, I hope that this will not give the government more undisclosed use of Native Land. I don't trust any of them, meaning the current government people. Cannot tell the fakes from the real ones.

You're not alone in that sentiment, Judith.

Native Americans have been lied to for centuries . . . but the rest of the American population is catching up.

Just! I am so happy about this. It is a great thrill. Thanks for letting me know. All your hard work has surely contributed to the rise in consciousness that allowed this to happen. I congratulate you and your people. If I could send big hugs to all the Indian nations i would but you will have to do, There's a huge cuddle coming your way.

That's really good news. I wonder what 200+ years of back-rent on the continental US plus Hawaii and Alaska would come out to per month, per capita?

Very happy to read this, but I'm a skeptic, too, I'm afraid. Another bill that was passed unanimously way back in 1978 was never upheld, so I sure hope and pray that this happens, Carole. At least it was passed, and so now there is something to fight with if they don't follow through. Thanks for sharing the good news.

Noted, t.u. just. Congratulations. I'm so happy to hear of this. In case they have any ideas about not following through with this maybe we need to remind them that we are going to be watching them very closely. The fact that they have gone back on their word so many times demands utmost diligence to make sure they don't do it again.

It's been a long time coming I wonder if the Government would be so long winded in pursuing an overdue tax payment to them! You bet not they would have you in court before sun up!

Wow, if the comments here (including my own) don't say a lot about the general consensus of distrust of the government, nothing does!

I agree with everything said here, including the fact that I keep waiting for the other government shoe to drop.

It is about time that the first nations of the US have finally been compensated for the many wrongdoings that have been bestowed upon them. This is truly a great feather for them.

Signed and sent this message to Senators Kerry and Brown of Massachusetts re: Cobell Trust Fund
The People have waited a very long time for this. It is important to me that the congress has the power to right wrongs made upon native peoples. Being a room full of ethical gentlemen, leaders and father figures is
important to all americans. Yelling, name calling and obstruction are the tools of Bullies.
You have lead by example for the good. Score one for the people and thank you.

Good news, Carole! Let us hope this is 'followed through' and not relegated to the 'back burner' like so many other good intentions. I have very little faith in governments, but would be pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong in this case! At any rate it is a positive step. The land was taken from Native Americans either by force or by trickery and it is high time for them to be compensated.

Your e-mail message was sent to:
Senator George LeMieux (R-FL)
Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL)

Took forever to do the right thing, and still the monies were cut back. But at least some of the monies are being paid. Yes, thankful for that at least.
Chan Tlalok brought up a good point, who will receive this money, as so many deserve it, yet due to scams in the past by the Federal Govt., many Indians have been taken out of the equation.

Some Good News for my Native American friends. :-) Next on MY agenda: Repeal the PACT ACT!!! The U.S. Attroney in Scranton, PA.froze my fav online retailer's e-checks account on 6/22/2010; so the final legitimate orders placed before or on 6/21/2010, for Native American grown, NO chemical additives cigarettes orders could not be fulfilled. My final order payment was in the seized & frozen retailer's e-checks bank account.
FINALLY during the past circa 2+ weeks, customers can now contact the U.S. Attorney in Scranton, PA for their refunds.
The written refund request has circa 3 legal forms to be completed, including a mandatory statement, bank account info, & signature from your bank member services rep. Now, the U.S. Attorney is trying to bust customers for placing orders for cigarettes to sell and/or trade. In addition to the bank detailed info, I had to submit the bank statement showing the transaction, a copy of my order confirmation/invoice, and submit a signed form restating the cigarettes were being purchased for personal use.
Now we have both PROHIBITION for Native American grown, chemical additives free cigarettes not available in many local retail stores, and possible pending interrogations and entrapment for customers who placed LARGE FINAL legal cigarettes orders online, pre PACT ACT going into effect!
