Murdoch Has Blood on His Hands

World  (tags: propaganda, news, manipulation, Rupert_Mudoch )

Nailing Rupert Murdoch for his employees' phone tapping or bribery would be a little like bringing down Al Capone for tax fraud, or George W. Bush for torture. I'd be glad to see it happen but there'd still be something perverse about it.

From the article:
I remember how outraged Americans were in 2005 learning about our government’s warrantless spying, or for that matter how furious some of my compatriots become when a census form expects them to reveal how many bathrooms are in their home.
I’m entirely supportive of outrage. I just have larger crimes in mind. Specifically this:
International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights:
“Article 20
“1. Any propaganda for war shall be prohibited by law.”
The Fox News Channel is endless propaganda for war, and various other deadly policies. As Robin Beste points out,
“Rupert Murdoch’s newspapers and TV channels have supported all the US-UK wars over the past 30 years, from Margaret Thatcher and the Falklands war in 1982, through George Bush Senior and the first Gulf War in 1990-91, Bill Clinton’s war in Yugoslavia in 1999 and his undeclared war on Iraq in 1998, George W. Bush’s wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, with Tony Blair on his coat tails, and up to the present, with Barack Obama continuing the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and now adding Libya to his tally of seven wars.”
In this video, Murdoch confesses to having used his media outlets to support the Iraq War and to having tried to shape public opinion in favor of the war. That is the very definition of propaganda for war.
The propaganda is, also by definition, part of the public record. Although that record speaks for itself, Murdoch has not been shy about adding his commentary. The week before the world’s largest anti-war protests ever and the United Nation’s rejection of the Iraq War in mid-February 2003, Murdoch told a reporter that in launching a war Bush was acting “morally” and “correctly” while Blair was “full of guts” and “extraordinarily courageous.” Murdoch promoted the looming war as a path to cheap oil and a healthy economy. He said he had no doubt that Bush would be “reelected” if he “won” the war and the U.S. economy stayed healthy. That’s not an idle statement from the owner of the television network responsible for baselessly prompting all of the other networks to call the 2000 election in Bush’s favor during a tight race in Florida that Bush actually lost.
Murdoch’s support for the Iraq War extended to producing support for that war from every one of his editors and talking heads. It would be interesting to know what Murdoch and Blair discussed in the days leading up to the war. But knowing that would add little, if anything, to the open-and-shut case against Murdoch as war propagandist. Murdoch had known the war was coming long before February 2003, and had long since put his media machine behind it.
Murdoch has been close to Blair and has now published his book — a book that Blair has had difficulty promoting in London thanks to the protest organizing of the Stop the War Coalition. Yet Murdoch allowed Mick Smith to publish the Downing Street Memos in his Sunday Times. Murdoch’s loyalty really seems to be to his wars, not his warmakers.
John Nichols describes three of those warmakers:
“When the war in Iraq began, the three international leaders who were most ardently committed to the project were US President Bush, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Australian Prime Minister John Howard. On paper, they seemed like three very different political players: Bush was a bumbling and inexperienced son of a former president who mixed unwarranted bravado with born-again moralizing to hold together an increasingly conservative Republican Party; Blair was the urbane ‘modernizer’ who had transformed a once proudly socialist party into the centrist ‘New Labour’ project; Howard was the veteran political fixer who came up through the ranks of a coalition that mingled traditional conservatives and swashbuckling corporatists.

“But they had one thing in common. They were all favorites of Rupert Murdoch and his sprawling media empire, which began in Australia, extended to the ‘mother country’ of Britain and finally conquered the United States. Murdoch’s media outlets had helped all three secure electoral victories. And the Murdoch empire gave the Bush-Blair-Howard troika courage and coverage as preparations were made for the Iraq invasion. Murdoch-owned media outlets in the United States, Britain and Australia enthusiastically cheered on the rush to war and the news that it was a ‘Mission Accomplished.’”
Bribery is dirty stuff. So is sneaking a peak at the private messages of murder victims. But there’s something even dirtier: murder, murder on the largest scale, murder coldly calculated and played out from behind a desk, in other words: war.
Murdoch is a major crime boss being threatened with parking tickets.
I hope he’s brought down, but wish it were for the right reasons.
The U.S. House Judiciary Committee chased Richard Nixon out of town for the wrong reasons. The full House impeached Bill Clinton for the wrong reasons. And the worst thing the U.S. government has done in recent years, just like the worst thing News Corp. has done in recent years, has not been spying on us.
It’s no secret what drove public anger at Nixon or what drives public anger at Murdoch. But, for the sake of historical precedent, it would be good for us to formally get it right.
CHARGE THE MAN WITH SELLING WARS!  [my emphasis added]"

Congress: Investigate Rupert Murdoch (U.S. Residents)
"Rupert Murdoch and other News Corporation executives are at the center of a shocking British media scandal that involves spying, bribery, corruption, a corporate cover-up and even murder.
And now there are reports that his company’s alleged criminal behavior – including the hacking of the phones of September 11 victims – has crossed the Atlantic.
For too long, Murdoch has used his enormous media power to get what he wants from Washington and insulate himself and his company from official scrutiny. If he has broken the law, Murdoch needs to be held accountable.
Already, Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Frank Lautenberg have called for an investigation of News Corp. Take action right now to urge your members of Congress to join them and demand an investigation."

Excellent Post Carole. Murdoch does have blood on his hands. More especially the blood of Children! He and his ill-gotten empire are the most dangerous thing to happen to the News Industry, to Australia. England and these not so United States.

Fox news, at least to me, was/is fraught with so much mean spirited, conniving Propaganda that I could no longer watch this network without screaming at the TV like some fool. America has her ridiculous prejudices which once and for all need to be aired, cleaned up and put out to dry. But the pundits on Fox, doing the Murdoch dance, went way out to further cause a deep seeded division between the people of this nation. They sold the IRAQ war and called anyone who disagreed, un-American! And so too did the easily led, prejudice citizens of this nation, "Dare call a fellow American un-American for their views on the war with IRAQ.

American's had better start listening to each other, agreeing to disagree but working together, if they want to see daylight at the end of this mess we're in. And if any American is led solely by his or her gr$$d and or prejudice then they should not have a seat at the table of reason! And by the way President Obama, Canter, Boehner and the rats feeding at the trough of despair, Compromise does not mean that one side gets the biggest piece of the pie.

This man, Murdoch, along with his disease ridden gr$$dy co-horts are criminals and should be treated as criminals. This pernicious agenda spewed from this bogus network would have been viewed, according to the framers, as treasonous. What the Supreme Court has done in recent years is treasonous. Those like the FCC, certain legislators, et al, should be held to account as well. What Murdoch wanted Murdoch got! Where were our illustrious leaders while this man was conspiring to take this nation down? Where are they now as the Koch's proceed with business as usual? America is on the chopping block because we have fools and cheats running the Nation.

Wars are US! LEGAL Drugs are US! CROOKED to the bone INSURANCE companies are US! SENDING JOBS OUT OF THE NATION ARE US! "MONSTER"ANTO killer seeds are US! Private run prisons are US! Energy crisis, because our graft takers turn a deaf ear to alternatives, are US! Oil spills are US! Mining disasters are US! Killing and maiming Children over-seas, are US! Starving America's children are US! Slapping upside the head of those who paid into SS are US! Unhealthy heath care are US! Jobs leaving the nation are US! And last but certainly not least, CROOKS are US!

My mom worked 45 years to end up with a meagerly $500 a mo. to live on. I have friends who have family members that worked 45-65 years and they are lucky to have between $500 and $800 a mo. to live on.

I know of stories where folks worked years and when it came time to retire found out that some employers did not pay into the system as they were suppose to, yet, SS was taken out of their paychecks. Can they fix this? NO!

Thanks Carole this is a winner. Soon the brave hearts of this nation will be, where they have the earned the right to be; On the receiving end of winning!

How much blood? It is too awful to even think about all of the innocents who had to die for this man to have money, control of a media empire and the ability to do as he wished with politics, laws, wars, power, control, not to mention money.

I hope there is a way to find justice and a better way.. After all, he is using PUBLIC airwaves. This corruption of our airwaves cannot go on forever.

Thanks for posting, Carole. I believe that things are starting to go against this man now. Rebekah Brooks just resigned today and his bid to take over the lucrative British Sky Broadcasting has collapsed. In addition to this, here is more good news:

"The chief executive officer of Dow Jones & Co., a man who once headed the Rupert Murdoch company at the center of the phone-hacking scandal, resigned Friday as Murdoch himself apologized for "serious wrongdoing" in an ad running in the British press this weekend.

Les Hinton submitted a resignation letter to Dow Jones, which publishes the Wall Street Journal, and to News Corp., the Murdoch company that controls Dow Jones."

Well I have signed the petition with a comment and posted it to Facebook, where I hope it will gain more signatures. This is Care2 and I saying much about Murdouche would probably result in the use of the proper vulgar terms he so richly deserves. Not many people have worked their entire lives to the ultimate destruction of all that is or was just and fair in this world. He is so deeply corrupt that I am quite amazed he is not rotted inside, or perhaps he is for to call him simply corrupt or unscrupulous, immoral, deceitful, exploitative and perfidious is just not sufficient to mark a man with the full and daily intention of causing grave harm to others.

Another great post Carole, thank you. He should go to jail; I know any one of us that was guilty of so much transgression would never be free again.

His prison cell must be large enough to accommodate his co conspirators within the British government and the British police force. It is an utter disgrace but will be a far larger disgrace if none of those responsible are held accountable.

Thank you for all the excellent comments; I just hope that this public pressure will force justice upon the guilty although I have my doubts.

Kit got it right, as usual! Agree wholeheartedly with previous comments. The man's heart must be black and rotting in his soul! I don't care if all they can get him on is tax evasion, or illegal crosswalk use! He has friends in very high places. Not surprising if he is indicted in Britain, but I would be SHOCKED if charges are actually brought about in the US. Billionaires sadly aren't prosecuted for breaking the law... Hoping that will change someday as well.

Trying to get Murdock and his EMPIRE here will be difficult with so many republicans in his pocket. They won't get congress to go along with any real investigation, and if any is done, it will get so watered down as to become meaningless.

He isn't as clever as Dorian Gray. With all that money, surely he could have had a portrait in the attic doing all that aging and etching the deep marks of predominant emotions and thoughts on its face. Instead, Murdoch's own face has done all the recording of his life. It makes one shudder to look at it.
Anyone that has suppressed the truth for so long in order to serve his wealth and political cronies and who has used the media to foster his right wing corporate cronies so that they could ruin our lives and wreck the environment without any compassion or regard for what is fair and right - deserves the law to hold him accountable and imprison him. Of course he would have known and approved of the hacking. He certainly approved of the money that yellow paper brought in for him.

Great article dear Just. Stars to you and many others here.
I have followed the news via Aljazeera, it is as bad as can be. However, finally one of the big ones are falling and there is very far down, thus he will hurt himself. Nevertheless, I doubt if he or any of the others will go to jail. As I understand the laws for corporations (from reading the book The Corporation by Joel Bakan), it is difficult, almost impossible to persecute individual CEOs, because one cannot determine beyond doubt that the person took the decision to act illegally. Normally it is a combination of people who take decisions. Thus, the courts normally persecute the corporation and it ends in a fine, much too small for the deed done. That has been the ongoing scenario. I would however wish some wise prosecuter could find a way around this clause. We need to start from one end on to take these people out of society. It includes our immoral and unreliable politicians, the greedy CEOs of Corporations including Monsanto and General Electric etc, and the media leaders who are spreading false information.

The petitions signed.....gladly.

The writer in the article, David Swanson, stated: "I hope he’s brought down, but wish it were for the right reasons."
I understand what the reader was saying, but at this point, if they fall, I really don't care what they fall from. Too much destruction from this one source alone to this world, and yes much blood on the hands, but we do need to stop it, by any means possible.

I don't know what it is with people but it seems to be the small things that light a fire under their butts. As with Minnesota, it wasn't until the beer started to dry up and the cigaretts are impacted are the people rising up. I shake my head, it only reminds me why these sorrowful conditions last so long, but at this point if it is beer or no beer that gets positive change to come about, then so be it.

I must hope that there will always be just enough people who understand things like International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: “Article 20 “1. Any propaganda for war shall be prohibited by law.” so we as humans don't totally debase to complete stupidity. Although a very bright man, Albert Einstein said this quote. "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."

I was also pleased to see this statment injected into the article by David Swanson, "He (Murdoch) said he had no doubt that Bush would be “reelected” if he “won” the war and the U.S. economy stayed healthy. That’s not an idle statement from the owner of the television network responsible for baselessly prompting all of the other networks to call the 2000 election in Bush’s favor during a tight race in Florida that Bush actually lost."

The last two words in this are important........actually lost.

If one hasn't viewed the movie called HACKING DEMOCRACY I suggest you do so. As our now temporarily banned and much respected C2 friend, Robert, stated on the thread to the link I'll include below. "There may be nothing more important to our Democratic Republic, than being able to confirm our votes." I agree, then I will follow up to say, the propaganda machine is most dangerous, is why one must always continue to be a free thinker......question authority, remember that? It means something.

Thank you Carole for the good article.

Rupert Murdoch's actions and the actions of FOX has been anything but good for this nation. They are a group that would "Dare" undermine this nations ideals while at the same time using our weakness, Prejudice, against US.

Just think: THREE of the most POWERFUL men on the Planet are being indicted {or are in SERIOUS trouble!} at once!

The Head of the IMF {International Monetary Fund}, DSK;

RM, the Head of a Media Empire that has CONTROLLED thru fear, Politicians and Police {Scotland Yard!} and Public perceptions on a MASS scale;

and, what has received FAR LESS publicity, the POPE, the Head of the Catholic Church, is right at this moment being SUED FOR CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY {!!!}. {That is, for SYSTEMATICALLY covering up the Paedophile Priests' Criminal Actions.} {This third case is being brought by lawyers representing US citizens, Belgian citizens, and others Internationally. As I said, in THIS country it hasn't received as much publicity as the other two instances.}

STAY TUNED!!! Is Humanity finally standing up on its hind legs to get SOME OF ITS OWN RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS BACK?????
Is 2012 REALLY going to be the Huge World Change the Mayans prophesied so long ago?????
Like the Chinese Curse says, we sure live in "INTERESTING" times, don't we!

STAY TUNED! I can hardly wait to see what's next!
Bring the suckers DOWN..... down down down down down..... !

By the way -- yes, we can ALL JOIN OUR FORCES TOGETHER and have SOME SAY in these tin dictators that have kept this Planet in FEAR for so long going DOWN, PERMANENTLY!!!

I have just written all my Congresspeople, the President, and my LOCAL NEWSPAPER, that we need a CONGRESSIONAL INVESTIGATION under the 1977 Corrupt Foreign Practices Act {look it up}, as the Murdoch Media Empire in the United States IS ALMOST CERTAINLY IN VIOLATION OF IT ON SEVERAL COUNTS!!!
{I might also if I get around to it write the U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, the NY Times, and other Media outlets I think of.}

As you know, part of Murdoch's Empire is Fox Faux News, 20th-Century-Fox, the Wall Street Journal, that NY newspaper that published the LYING BLATANT SLANDER that DSK's rape victim was a "professional prostitute" {SEE HOW THESE GUYS ALL STICK TOGETHER!}, and other papers.

The question is, did Murdoch's agents hack 9/11 victims? Did they bribe police as they did in Great Britain? etc. etc. etc.......
Write Petitions, send e-mails, make phone calls, send letters and postcards all over the place ----- DON'T LET THIS REST AND FADE AWAY!!!!!

"Oh Happy Day, Calloo Callay....." Didja ever think ya'd see the time....

How Fox News has almost single-handedly CORRUPTED journalism in this country..... dragged ALL Political Discourse down to nonsense.... got Teabaggers into positions of power where they can cut budgets for essential Social Services..... all on a BASIS OF ILLEGALITY..... ! wow!

The widening scandal is just getting worse everyday for a lot more people. This is what happens when you cross the line and do these kinds of things:

Good news Matthew, thank you, I did not hear that also the police chief had to resign. It is getting better.

Good input BMutiny TCorporationsEvil. I heard some time back about the issue with the Pope but little has been said publicly. Just imagine the immense pain, the so called Holy man, caused to children, by making his secret white paper on how the church should deal with pedophile priests. That is a terrible story.

But there is more to celebrate: who would have thought that Egypt's Mubarak and his sons would be in prison going to trial? And that the Criminal Court in the Hague would issue an arrest warrant for the North Sudanese president Al Bashir, for genocide in Darfur. Here in Africa we are waiting for even more dictators to be persecuted for crimes against humanity.

Then we need to get hold of Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld. Look at this article from Human Rights Watch:

As you say BMutiny TCorporationsEvil, it is going in the right direction for 2012 goals.

Lovely post dear Just

We need to indict everyone involved in promoting the New World Order.
The Politicians and Corporations have ther way because the Media reports the news in their favor. We trust the media to authenticate election results, confirm violent actions were committed by terrorists (not our own governments) and feature poltical parties and candidates with the people's interest at heart etc. Usually we only see the tip of the icebrg, currently the iceberg has broken in two and revealed it's size and relative potential for damage to our global community.
Wake up world, before we are all slaves to the Fascist's New World Order.

Please read AND think:

Fascism, is a radical and authoritarian nationalist political ideology. Fascists seek to organize a nation according to corporatist perspectives, values, and systems, including the political system and the economy. Scholars generally consider fascism to be on the far right of the conventional left-right political spectrum. Fascists believe that a nation is an organic community that requires strong leadership, singular collective identity, and the will and ability to commit violence and wage war in order to keep the nation strong. They claim that culture is created by the collective national society and its state, that cultural ideas are what give individuals identity, and thus they reject individualism. Viewing the nation as an integrated collective community, they see pluralism as a dysfunctional aspect of society, and justify a totalitarian state as a means to represent the nation in its entirety. Fascists reject and resist the autonomy of cultural or ethnic groups who are not considered part of the fascists' nation and who refuse to assimilate or are unable to be assimilated. They consider attempts to create such autonomy as an affront and a threat to the nation. Fascist governments forbid and suppress opposition to the fascist state and the fascist movement. They identify violence and war as actions that create national regeneration, spirit and vitality.

Great postings here! {Haven't been on Care2 much lately, but am SO GLAD to find great people still posting great posts!}

Remember, guys, THERE IS A LOT THAT EACH ONE OF US CAN DO! We, collectively as well as individually, are NOT POWERLESS!!!!!

Really, I think for the vicious slime-balls we are talking about here, Murdoch, the Dictators, and the others; LOSING THEIR POWER might be as BAD, from their point-of-view, as going to jail! So, while jail would certainly be a satisfying SYMBOL, there are other means of punishment..... As was said about the Nazi crimes-against-humanity, no jail or other punishment would ever really be ENOUGH. We can only protect OURSELVES and our descendents from future depredations.....

YOU can KEEP UP THE PRESSURE; look what happened after the Brits started "piling it on", on Murdoch! Among other things, amidst the arrests, and BECAUSE OF PUBLIC OUTCRY, Murdoch LOST THE TV LICENSE that would've given him huge amounts of CONTROL of UK media {and after Murdoch's nasty and successful campaign to DEFUND his rival, BBC, too!}.
Should happen here in the US also..... Murdoch's Fox Faux News Channel.....

Sign and circulate the Petitions above and do more, write, call, be creative! This is OUR MOMENT!!!
For the PEOPLE!!!
{So ENERGIZING, isn't it???!!!}

From way back in December: a Care2 News Article:

Study Confirms That Fox News Makes You Stupid

A new survey of American voters shows that Fox News viewers are significantly more misinformed than consumers of news from other sources.

[Well, we knew that, hah!] Here's from my comment on that article:

There is a MOVEMENT of people, some going door-to-door knocking at neighbors' doors, to TURN OFF FOX.

There is a BUMPERSTICKER you can send for, FREE, at TURNOFFFOX.ORG: it says "TURN OFF FOX/ BAD NEWS FOR AMERICA". I have made several copies of the sticker {it's rather small, for a bumpersticker}, and am putting them in phone booths, covered bus stops, etc.

.......It is not enough to go after the advertisers; that's been tried. Or individual talk show hosts. Many of Fox/Faux "news" audiences are "captive audiences" in public places; last I saw, McDonalds had them on all the time. {ANOTHER reason I don't go to McDonalds!}

I can't stress it enuf, folks, this is OUR TIME to DO something that will REALLY AFFECT THE FUTURE! Bring these horrid creatures DOWN......!!!!!

While we'd love to see the whole jail-forever and "perp walk" thing, that's mere petty revenge, really.... really.

The whole POINT is, for these guys to be DEPRIVED OF THEIR POWER, so they can't HURT US any more, and our descendents -- try to make it IMPOSSIBLE for such things to happen.

Whether it's the Pope, the Head of IMF {International Monetary Fund}, some rotten Dictator {and his family and heirs}, or Murdoch and his Media Minions {including BOTH British Political Parties and Scotland Yard!!!}; it is a REAL HUMILIATION for any of them, and obviously UNEXPECTED, to shake their power by them just having to face our ACCUSATIONS!

So, then let's GO FOR IT! TOTAL HUMILIATION! And suddenly they're shown up as mere pathetic aging creepos after the ANNIHILATION of their ILLEGITIMATE POWER to scare, intimidate and hurt US.....!

[Laughing at myself, but only a little!]

C'mon, WE CAN DO IT!

Now is NOT the time to sit on sidelines, or to be cynical about "nothing changes"! Or, "those guys are too BIG for us"!

If he gets what he deserves I think that it will have to come from another nation. As Nick points out..he's got so many GOPers in his pockets in D.C.

I read on yahoo the other day that the CIA/FBI one, has already cleared him of any wrong doing when it comes to the Wall Street Journel. Now I had to ask the heck did they move that fast to do such a complicated investigation that it would take to do that. Kind of left me with...$ure....wink wink nod nod.

Don't be too sure that we've seen the end of this! In my opinion, it's only the BEGINNING!
Depends very much on whether there is a HUGE PUBLIC OUTCRY -- as there was in Great Britain!
So you see, it's very much UP TO US, what happens next!
So, let's all of us, step up to the plate and rise to the challenge!!!

NEXT on our sights -- the infamous KOCH Brothers!!!

[Also, I would recommend keeping the PRESSURE on cases against the Pope -- for Crimes Against Humanity -- and Dominique Strauss-Kahn, FORMER Head of the IMF -- there is NO SUCH THING as "Consensual" Rape!!!
Mebbe, I dunno, this is the Age or Era or Planetary Configuration or Karma Time or whatever, when "Bright Lucifer Falls From The Skies"?????]

Anyway, I say, STAY TUNED for more developments, of "How Have The Mighty Fallen"..... HOW FAR will it go?????

While it's lovely and satisfying and all that, to imagine putting the malefactors in jail, whether that happens sooner or later or never, the IMPORTANT thing we can all assist at, is DISMANTLING MURDOCH'S MEDIA NEWS EMPIRE AND CONTROL.
WE can do THAT!!! We don't HAVE to rely on "others"!

We can WITHDRAW OUR INVESTMENTS {if we're lucky enuf to have any!}.

THAT'S what happened in Great Britain -- OVERNITE, thru the Internet, people STOPPED BUYING MURDOCH NEWSPAPERS, STOPPED PATRONIZING HIS ADVERTISERS -- EN MASSE! Right after the APPALLING news came out that that poor dead girl had been hacked -- ! People just responded from their GUT.

So it could happen HERE -- if and when it turns out 9/11 victims were hacked -- as a NY cop has testified.....

Well, look at you guys on Care2 for example. You act from your gut feelings as well as from "pure logic" -- and that's okay.

We dismantle Murdoch's control of media, we WIPE OUT HIS POWER -- his power to bribe, coerce, influence politics and politicians, turn everything Far Right -- and THAT'S the MOST IMPORTANT THING!!!

ISN'T IT?????

While watching the Parliment procedures this morning I wanted to throw up~ ESPECIALLY hearing the BS apology from BIG IDIOT. Had to turn it off as I couldn't bare Little IDIOT's arrogance and BS any longer! As Barbara stated about not being to watch Faux News...IT WAS EXACTLY THE SAME.

This has been bugging me all day. I apologize for saying "Big Idiot, Little Idiot". Idiot was NOT the correct word.

Barbara Tomlinson (431)

I watched a video of that hearing where that IDIOT tried to throw a PIE in Murdoch's face! Not that Murdoch doesn't deserve it: but it DOES give "non-violent resistance" a bad name, as some would call THAT, "violence". Also, such things shouldn't take place during serious public hearings. It only makes for WORSE police presence and "security" precautions; it's UNcivilized. The guy throwing the pie in those circumstances, was an IDIOT. NOT a credit to Murdoch's "opposition".

Anyway, the pie-throwing UTTERLY BACKFIRED in its intended effect. Murdoch's WIFE, Wendi Deng {half Murdoch's age!}, ATTACKED THE WOULD-BE-PIE-THROWER and SAVED her husband from being Pie'd and TURNED THE PIE BACK AGAINST THE STUPID GUY! What Security and bodyguards and Murdoch's own {weasel of a} son couldn't do! Well, she was sitting in JUST THE RIGHT PLACE. You can see her ATTACK, vigorously, from the back, in the video!

Anyway, even tho she's got to be part of Murdoch's Evil Empire, in it for the money no doubt, still, she proved herself MORE than just a "trophy wife" and didn't we all have a sneaking SYMPATHY for her actions?!
An article in a Brit newspaper called it "grrrl power", "you go, girl!"
I guess Wendi is or was a professional athlete. But, YAY, just from a HUMAN point of view - what she did, spontaneously, fast, immediately, was GREAT - it can't be denied!!!

[And doesn't Murdoch Jr. look just like a WEASEL, turning his smooth head on his long neck this way and that.....}

Score Murdoch team, 1, would-be-jokester, 0;
let that be a lesson well-learned!

The Greek definition of "Idiot", from which our word comes, means something like "a person whose sole concerns are private, not public -- in other words, NOT a good citizen". We use the prefix idio- in such words as "idiosyncratic", "peculiar to oneself".

I would like to see that word returned to something like its original meaning! We NEED a word for really, really, really, really stupid! "Concerned ONLY with oneself" seems to apply!
I think it applies to that would-be-pie-thrower, for example! He DIDN'T think out the possible CONSEQUENCES!

The word 'stupid' is used to deliberately distract from acts of purposeful and deliberate malice. GWB was notorious for 'playing stupid' so as to mitigate punishment from his youth. There is more than one kind of 'bad actor.'
We tend to forget - or more likely not know in the first place - how horrid and entrenched pure evil has been throughout time.
