Aatef Karinaoui, a Bedouin, formed the first pro-Israel Arab party, E Amal Lat'gir (Hope for Change). Israel is a "democracy that protects everyone....All the bad things they say about Israel and its supposed ill-treatment of Arabs is..a bald-faced lie."

I wish him well. Let's hope it's the start of a more realistic policy.

About time the truth came out. I'm so sick of all the whining, violence and lies.

I'm sure that Arabs can cope with this type of apartheid, you know, where the Arabs are herded into remote villages, refused access to medical care, legal equality or education and jobs.....hang on, isn't that Africa? America with blacks? Damn, I'm always getting mixed up with the world truth and the lies and propaganda that the Palestinians come up with.

As I recall there is something like 1.5 million Palestinian Arabs as well as Druze Arabs who all have equal access to all of the same facilites that the other types of Israelis have (remembering that not all are Jews). Bring apartheid like that into every country!

I wish Aatef, and others like him, all the very best in their joint futures.

Karinaoui speaks clearly and truthfully (a person worthy of being listened to):

“Israel is a democracy, and I respect every country that is a democracy. Israel did not expel me. I kept my land. I have the right under the law to do whatever I want to do, even to become prime minister.

“We Arabs need to thank God that we live in this democratic country.”

“I am absolutely certain that [Arab Knesset members] receive money from foreign agents — maybe Iran, Hamas, Nasrallah, for instance. The state needs to investigate this. Where do they get all their assets and funding? These people come into politics with nothing and suddenly they are driving fancy cars, they own land.

“It is exactly what is happening in the Palestinian Authority,” he states, alluding to stories of deep-seated corruption in the ruling Fatah party. “The people are hungry, and these politicians get rich.”

Noting my surprise at the fierce assertions, he adds: “I know this because I see it; I live it.”

To change the way things are done, Karinaoui proposes cooperation. “What I want is to solve our problems here, as part of Israeli society, hand in hand with the Jewish public,” he says.

This is one worth watching.

There is an ironic component to this, though: Arabic communities really are undeserved in Israel because their votes get concentrated in parties which will not work with the government, or with which it would be political suicide for any government to work. Governing parties see the Arab vote as inaccessible due to Arab parties, and Arab parties as non-candidates for coalitions.

The new pro-Israel Arab party could potentially change all of this by making Arabs potential coalition-partners if it does well. I hope he succeeds spectacularly in carrying the Arab vote.

Agree with Pam.Anyone who knows Israeli history knows there is no progress without violence , unfortunately.
I hope he has security and keeps looking over his shoulder.
I wish him the best of luck in bringing some rational thought into an emotional and social problem.

THIS is an idea that would work if the Palestinians would stop letting themselves be manipulated by those who hate the Jews. MANY live in Israel and are happy to be there. I would so like to see this.

this is revolutionary- he has an uphill battle and not many arabs would share his point of view. and they would rather blow themselves up than follow him. but who knows, things could be changing with the uprising going on there.

It had to happen eventually - someone like Karinaoui - with a clear perception of what a democracy like Israel is really all about. More power to his arm - Be'ahavat Yisrael, shalom. Thank you Fred

Such flattery... I just wonder at the "new" politique".. if you break your teeth at trying to swallow israel.. maybe some fine integration will work.. like in Europe.. where oh where lies trustworthyness in these things given the muslim affair with taquia in all its' wonderful forms.. maybe better the adversary you see than the one fawning away in your house.asleep .. for now.

“We need an Arab Spring here in Israel,” he adds, “against our own Arab leaders.”

“Israel is a wonderful place for Arabs,” he declares. “It is the only democracy in the Middle East. Look at what the Arabs are doing to each other all over the Middle East. We don’t want to focus on that anymore here. People want to advance within the State of Israel, where they were born, and, yes, under the Israeli flag.”

What a refreshing read! This man could be the beginning of something much larger than even he envisions at the moment. His take on issues is astute, his willingness to compromise a lesson we here in the United States could learn from. The fear with leaders like this is always assassination - as the forces of darkness do not sleep, nor forgive what they see as transgressions. He gives me hope and I want to believe he does the same for other Israeli-Arabs. It would be nice for the Arab states to pay attention as well to what he is saying as he is proposing a path to peace that we all should embrace.

Really??? Tell that to the Palistinian families who are terrorized by Israel EVERY SINGLE DAY. This fellow is simply angling for a better foothold on financial security. What a joke!

I remember meeting a man at McDonalds where I go in the evening to watch the tv I don't have at home and to get out a bit. He was an Arab from Israel. He told me the people just want to get along but the authorities cause the troubles.

What a breath of fresh air Karinaoui's words are in a war weary world. He has the spirit of a true Peace Maker. May he live long and affect much positive life affirming change for all concerned.......... so much good for so many can grow and bloom from such dedication and genuine caring. We need this energy of reconciliation, of working together for the common good of all. We need Peace Makers. Would like to have updates about this. Thanx!
