Skin color is no protection against hate. Racial tension between Somali and African-American students erupted into a massive riot at. School officials deny the tensions reported by parents and students, claiming an idyllic diversity utopia.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A number of police cars responded to Minneapolis South High School Thursday after an alleged food fight escalated into a melee involving 200 to 300 students.

The school posted a note on its website stating the it went on a precautionary code yellow lockdown due to “a food fight that escalated into a physical fight.”

The school said Thursday night that classes are still scheduled for Friday.

Sgt. William Palmer, of the Minneapolis Police Department, said no weapons were involved in the incident. However, four people were taken to the hospital following the melee.

Those taken to the hospital were a school staff member, who was hit in the head with a bottle, and three students, who suffered injuries unrelated to the fight, the school said. It did not elaborate on what injured the three students.

Twelve people complained that they had been sprayed with mace. Police at the scene said they had to use chemical agent to get the crowd under control as they were being pelted with objects as they tried to break things up.
The main incident occurred during the school’s third period lunch, around 12:45 p.m., and lasted about 15 minutes. About 20 staff members responded to the incident and followed security procedures, according to the school.

One student, Abdi Sheikh, said he saw hundreds of students fighting in what appeared to be a racial incident.

“A big riot,” he said. “It was all types of races.”

Sheikh said about 20 police rushed into the school shortly after.

Another student, Symone Glasker, said that an initial fight happened during the school’s first lunch period. By the time the third lunch period started, all the hype from the initial fight caused tensions to boil over.

“My lunch was third lunch,” Glasker said. “There was fight after fight after fight. People couldn’t breathe…It was very scary.”

She said the fights were over pride.

“I know it’s a pride thing between Muslims and black people,” she said. “They want their pride back for something. I don’t know.”
She also said “boys were hitting girls” and that some people were lying on the floor, with their hands over their heads, in surrender.

“They didn’t know if someone was going to bring out a knife, or if someone was going to bring out a gun,” Glasker said.

The fight, students say, was the result of long-simmering tensions between the 8 percent of students who are Somali Americans and the 20 percent who are African Americans.

School officials said dismissal would take place as usual and parents would not need to pick up their kids. Afternoon activities will also go on as scheduled.

Students were told to stay in their classrooms during class. The school remained on lockdown following the fight until the dismissal.

The school posted on its website, “Maintaining a safe environment for our students is a top priority. Fighting is not tolerated at school or on school property. We are committed to following the MPS discipline policy in instances of fighting.”

Stan Alleyne, the Minneapolis Public Schools chief of communications, gave a statement, saying South High is a school that continually makes the district proud.

“South is a very diverse high school,” Alleyne said. “It is a microcosm of the city. Students function together at a high level every day. That is the strength of this school. Our students live diversity every day.”

Police are now reviewing video of the incident from several angles, as it was caught on surveillance cameras. No arrests were made.

Maybe it's time to start spreading these refugees out across the country so they don't form ghettos and are then more likely to make the effort to assimilate. I watched a related video on this page and saw the Somali girls dressed like something out of the 7th century in big bulky, ugly, long, black robes with only hands and faces showing. It does cause a visceral revulsion in anyone who is ardent in the equal treatment of women to see this awful way girls and women are treated in Muslim societies (and brainwashed into accepting their inferior status), just because some man in the 7th century was afraid his wives might be tempted to shake hands with a man. So primitive, and it really stands out in our more modern, progressive society that has been working hard for years to honor the dignity and equal value of all humans.

It's hard not to wonder where in all this 'diversity' the LGBT students find themselves with 8% of the students from this primitive, homophobic Islamic society where they are judged as 'filthy' and worthy only of death. That would be interesting to know.

I've read other articles relating to this Somali community and the ties so many of them have with the Orthodox and brutal Muslim terrorists that are oppressing Somalia - Al Shabab, and how CAIR has been supportive of and defended these murderous bigots, but then, that is not at all surprising, is it, knowing CAIR's roots, agenda and history.

Thanks for posting this Monica. It will be interesting to see how things develop at this school. Let us know what happens.

As a teacher, I know it's almost impossible for schools to prevent videos getting out, and some of the student comments in the videos I saw are telling. "Why the Somalis think they so hard? They don't run sh*t".....

Ah, but they'd like to. And are even the toughest gangstas tougher than boys who spend their summers training with Al-Shabaab? Right now there are about 20% African -American and 8% Somali in that school. What happens when those numbers change and it's twice as many Somalis as African -Americans? Islam teaches blacks are inferior, and even black-skinned muslims will hate black-skinned infidels. Infidels are the worst scum, black infidels are even lower than that.

I am AMAZED how many people with dark, black skin embrace the religion/culture that was at the heart of trans-Atlantic slave trade, and was marching millions of black Africans to slavery for CENTURIES before whitey decided to get a piece of that pie. Whites were involved for a few hundred years; Arabs had been running it for a solid 1000 years before that. Muslims were involved since the time of Mohammed, and in many areas STILL ARE TODAY (Sudan, Rwanda, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, for example). So at least 1400 years or so of blacks as slaves for them. They still had slave auctions in Mecca in the late 1960s, when America's Civil Rights Era was going on. Islam allows slavery. Why is no voice calling for abolition any more? Oh, right. Those guys have the oil.

The quran and ahadith equate dark skin with evil and going to hell and white or light skin with goodness. All one need do is look at the treatment of blacks in say, Libya, or Mali, recently to know the Arabs disdain blacks and darker skinned citizens quite extremely. They openly call them inferior and accuse them of all manner of jail-able and executable offenses with no trial or evidence needed, just the word of an Arab over theirs.

Since I work in schools that are very close to 100% African-American, and I see daily what the challenges are for them, and I care about them getting equal opportunities for education and success, it bothers me a lot that we are importing huge numbers of people who are ready to hate them for no reason, and back it up with violence. It's racist to assume, as our government seems to, that skin color being similar means they'll get along, but nothing could be farther from the truth because CULTURALLY they are so different. And like muslims everywhere, the Somalis increasingly refuse to assimilate and we'll end up with no-go zones in Minnesota like in Europe. Look at Dearbornistan. We have it already.

We're having problems here in Australia too with Somalis. This kind of tribal violence is an inevitable consequence of immigration policies that haven't been properly thought out.

"No arrests were made."......

Sure, if it involves blaming and arresting Muslims, police, cafeteria workers, school teachers know they'll be fired. So it's see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.

We're in for a lot more of this with massive Muslim immigration. Thanks Obummer.

Somalis are the group of Muslims who are repsonsible for the rape epidemics in Sweden and Denmark. Enough said.

“South is a very diverse high school,” Alleyne said. “It is a microcosm of the city. Students function together at a high level every day. That is the strength of this school. Our students live diversity every day.”

I live in Minnesota, this was big news last week, and it is true that South is a very diverse high school, South Minneapolis also has the highest concentration of Somali immigrants so this is far from over. I don't know how or why but MN is traditionally a place that accepts larger numbers of immigrants than most other areas of the country, Laotian, Hmong, Viet Namese, Hispanic, Liberian. Those groups have assimilated over a generation or two becoming productive and welcome members of our society. Not so with the Somali's. They don't assimilate, they don't even try, most of them. They have "spokesMEN" who berate the local schools and organizations for not changing our culture to match what they want. Now that Somalia has a government, which is the reason most are here, perhaps they will return home - a couple dozen young men have to become Al Shabab members, that has been soundly denounced by the spokesMEN, until it was proven in court, they were recruiting them in their mosques. Other legal tangles were caused by shutting down operations that claimed they were sending money back to Somalia for their families but turned out to be funneling it to the terrorists, two women were convicted of the same thing. This isn't going to end pretty and I feel great sorrow for the students at South who are going to be subjected to the same treatment born of the same conflict.

well, here we go. they are bringing their violent ways, and their hatred of infidels, out in the open right here in america. i'm surprised it took them all the way up to 8% of the student population to start rioting. in most countries 3 to 5% is enough for them to get very obnoxious. i guess that school has really good security.

gang violence by somalis in the new somalia/st. paul area is also off the charts,

I don't know how many Somalis I have heard that went from MN to the middle east to train for Jihad...the state appears to be infiltrated with them!! And with Ellison in there being a Muslim he supports the Muslim agenda state wide no doubt!
