This is so common, it hurts the soul. Many of our seniors are alone, either because their family has deserted them, or they have no family. Sometimes the depressions they have are so severe, they can have elements of delusional thinking connected with them.

Thank you Eduardo, for presenting us with an article that I'm certain, will make many of you uncomfortable. However, it is something we must all face.

Sadly our society does not honor or care for the elderly. In what should be the best years of their lives they are often treated the worst.

I agree with both of you. Many of us contribute so much to the society, but may end up with this fate in the elderly.

it's not just the elderly, many of us are left without proper homecare, supportive care or wheelchair housing and can not take care of ourselves or survive with out others, even getting our food and opening, a bath, change of clothes etc. I live in Canada, it happens here, and big time in the USA, for many ages. This is a worldwide problem and not just the elderly. With that said thou the babyboomers are reaching retirment and it is pressing for more needs for many more

also I find the people most uncomfortable about this are those that are not ill themselves or haven/t been greatly or have any empathy which is different far different from pity, and even compassion although the latter is closer
