"Instead of targeting Hummer and SUV dealerships over the last few years, the ELF should have put General Motors out of business years ago with well-placed incendiary devices in Detroit."

Someone should put ELF out of business with a few "well-placed incendiary devices."

I don't agree with ELF's tactics, but GM may deserve bankruptcy. They've been selling fuel efficient versions of US models for years overseas, but refused to introduce them here. Bigger, "more powerful" SUV's where what they were pushing, and their so called "red tag" sale prices are what they should have been charging all along. They can blame the unions all they want, but when it comes down to it, their decision to sell over priced dinosaurs is what will shut them down.

Well, the deserve it for wasting GM electric card, American talent and for stupidity of management. However the workers as always would be the one to pay. Bankruptcy however could restructure them in place just holding them up with bad debt and no prospect for re-structuring. Imagine how much in bonuses management awarded themselves in the past for all those bad decisions. It is time to make America strong by using our minds, not by using other parts parts of the body.

If the auto dealers are bailed out, they can still mismanage the money and end up losing it all and the jobs go with it. If we let them fail and they file bankruptcy, the business stays open, jobs are cut, but the majority will still be employed. I say let them fail.

Marion Y:

Don't you mean a bailout for the auto manufacturers rather than the auto dealers?

The Big Three are going to fail anyway as the infrastructure (parts suppliers) isn't there any longer. Most, if not all of those parts supplier firms have gone belly up, so even if a $25b "loan" were approved it would not make a whit of difference. They're done for and in a larger sense, so is the EVIL Das KAPITALISM! The damage is so extensive and widespread that Humpty the U.S. Dumpty is (hurrah) finito!

They (GM) are being bailed out, by the government, with $6B in Australia ON THE PROVISO that they research more economical and environmentally friendly cars.
