I believe this is yet another instance where a child's death occured that could have been prevented. Had the older siblings felt free enough to report the home situation to a trusted relative, teacher or neighbor; had a neighbor or other relative cared enough to notice and question how a 2 year-old looked as small as a 3 month-old and reported to local child protective services Andrew might have survived. They say it takes a village to raise a child. Sometimes it takes a caring relative or neighbor to care enough that a child can live to be raised. We live in such a splintered society today... some people barely mustering enough energy to mumble "Hello" to their next door neighbor. The days of neighbors looking out for the welfare of one another and our neighborhood children seems to have sadly vanished. Many of our communities have COPS (Citizens on Patrol) programs to protect our homes from potential burglars, but I wonder how many of us are still willing to call a neighbor parent to report we just saw his/her son or daughter ride a bike through a stop sign, giving the parents information that will help them appropriately caution the child? How many of us are still willing to make the effort to report possible abuse of a child, or an elder adult in need of assistance?

This is a sad case and clearly child abuse. No way would this child weigh just 13 pounds at 21/2 years old without him being starved. These people are mental. If the child suffered injuries that bad when the mother fell down the stairs, that the injuries still remained months later, why wasn't the boy took to the hospital when it happened? And to delay getting him to the hospital when they found him not breathing proves they weren't too concerned with him. Probably never even attempted the CPR like they say.
People that have all these children and abuse them are not human. Children are not put here on their own. Why are they constantly punished for being born?
At least there is hope for the other 4 children by getting them out of that 'home'. But they could have mental and emotional injuries themselves. These are two more people that need to spend the rest of their sorry lives in prison. Now little Andrew is safe from harm but his life should not have been this way or be taken from him so young.

The Death Penalty would not be an appropriate punishment for these monsters. They must pay immensely for their crimes and being locked up for the rest of their lives sounds good to me. If they were killed, it would be too easy. They would be free of it. This way, they can never get away from it. And, they have to put up with the wrath of other parent prisoners who miss their children so much; especially at Christmas time. I feel so sad for the siblings! As a social worker, I've seen the emotional damage that surviving kids live with. They are tortured by all of the abuse they endured on their own bodies and what they witnessed when the other brothers and sisters were abused and neglected. It can take a lifetime of therapy to learn to live with this horrible past, and a lot of abuse survivors commit suicide. Others choose a life being abused by their partners and some abuse their families the same way they were abused. If you see, hear or know of a child or children being abused or neglected, please call the police or the nearest Child Protection Agencies In the U.S. or Children's Aid in Canada. You can choose to remain anonymous. You never know, you just may save a life.

13 pounds?? Some babies are born with higher weights. What a shame.

Merry christmas tiny child. No more life but no more suffering. I hope his violator(s) may feel some of this poor child's terrible suffering. Two years of hell. No sort of a life is it? These people must be sterilised. I agree that they should get life but only for a few years(long enough to know they aren't leaving alive) and then euthanase them because who wants to feed and clothe these creatures? Thank you Lisa. Everyone please love and appreciate your children.
