A NASA report on the last minutes of Space Shuttle Columbia cited problems with the crew's helmets, spacesuits, and restraints, which resulted in lethal trauma to the seven astronauts aboard.

well, um, as the the report said, no one could have survived the tremendous forces unleashed when the shuttle broke apart. and there's the fall to earth even if they did survive the forces of craft disintegration ~

columbia ~ i remember her well. first shuttle to leave earth's atmosphere, in april 1982, with commander john "iceman" young and pilot robert crippen. the entire time columbia was up that april, there were concerns about the heat-shield tiles. some had been knocked loose at launch, and there was concern about the very scenario that brought her down in 2003 ~
