A Russian scientist has determined that the devastating effects of the 1908 Tunguska blast were caused by a hydrogen-saturated comet, and it could happen again!

About 30 years ago I read a book about this. The author was the opinion that this explosion was caused by an UFO that exploded in some hight over the ground. He based his theory on the fact that there was no crater and radioactivity was found on trees around that place. There was also found some metal components in the trees that are not found this way on earth. But his strongest argument was that people who saw that thing coming, said that it changed its direction from an inhabited area to a non inhabited area. No comet can do that.

Dobyshevsky may be correct, certainly it's a theory that's been waiting for an author.

Ralph X, I too read this book. It still seems the most plausible explanation to me. However, the establishment will certainly jump on this new theory because it "fits" better into the narrow minded box.

Well, Alex, I do not give much on theories because there is always this nonsense of competition between scientists. Meanwhile there have been many theories about this, whatever it was. Proofs for a comet never existed and proofs for the UFO do not exist either. There were the eye witnesses who told that they had seen that thing flying and changing its direction. Honestly said, I do not mind what is the truth. It is just not of any importance. Does anyone need a proof for UFOs, Aliens or comets? I do not think so. Beside that, people believe what they want to believe anyway. For this they even created wars and crusades. Create a 3d Hologram in the sky that looks like aa cross, and they believe it is God, Jesus, Maria or whatever. They did this in Russia and now you find it in Youtube. There is another video with eyes in the clouds. They look real and immense big. Many things today are possible to manipulate people and prevent them from thinking. Thinking can be dangerous because one could out the truth about things. Especially when you finally have found out that nothing happens by chance and nothing is without a reason.

Ralph I do not know whether it was a UFO or a comet, but the closest eye witnesses were 20 miles away and they were caribou herders. The closest villages were over 50 miles away. There were really no cities in the area for a UFO to avoid.
Also maximum damage from a comet (or a nuclear device for that matter) would be for it to explode in the air a mile or so high rather than on impact. So there could be no crater, but still a huge damage area on the ground.
UFO's may exist and they are fun to consider, but keep in mind Tunguska happened early in the morning in 1908 in one of the most remote areas on earth. This was years before the Russian revolution, it was witnessed by very few people due to its location and the time of day, the equipment available to study this was primitive at that time,it took literally years to get scientific equipment to an area that remote, and that area contains many lakes and no roads.
I think comet is a likely answer.

Do you know that an Asteroid hit earth in March? It was tiny, and all but burned up?

We are a sitting duck in a pond full of drunken, mega-speed projectiles with no more idea of our existence than we mostly do of theirs.

The only real question is Size, making relevant the simple equation:

Are we the Bug, or are we the Windshield!
