This weekend, the eyes of the world will be upon the Troy Anthony Davis legal battle, and any support that you can render is crucial to tipping the scales of government to ensure justice is indeed served. Currently the case is severely flawed!

don't know why prayer is included in a rally for legal justice.

Isn't it interesting that even atheists call-out "Please God Help Me!!!" whenever imminent death approaches to snuff their life out into oblivion!?!?

Whenever coming up against a corrupt legal system, that ignores the very due-process of law that it itself upholds, then I am sure that diligent sincere prayer surely cannot hurt anything or anyone or anyone's constitutional rights!

As I understand this, Troy Davis is a Christian and the NAACP is complying with a prayer vigil rally.

This is their Constitutional Right.

Freedom of Religious Expression from Tyranny ---

Something about the original forefathers leaving Europe and England to secure Freedom of Choice!

Thanks for news of the rally. I knew that the case against Troy Davis was flawed, but I had never read the details of it until recently when I went to Troy Davis in WIKIPEDIA. Troy is innocent. And now he is under gag order, because if he is allowed to speak to the press, more people will know it beyond a doubt.

Here is an excerpt of the murder of Officer MacPhail from Wikipedia and the events that followed.

****************************

ON AUGUST 19, 1989, MARK MacPHAIL, an off-duty policeman, was working as a security guard at a Burger King restaurant in Savannah, Georgia. The incident started when Sylvester “Redd” Coles began harassing a homeless man, Larry Young, for a beer while Troy Davis and others watched quietly from a distance.[4] Coles verbally harassed and chased the homeless man to a nearby parking lot where MacPhail was working. Coles threatened the retreating homeless man by exclaiming: “You don’t know me. Don’t walk away from me. I’ll shoot you.” Davis and others silently followed the scuffle.[4] The homeless man yelled for help and MacPhail responded and was shot dead with a .38 caliber weapon. The parking lot was dark and the scene was chaotic.

Coles initially lied about carrying the .38 caliber revolver, but later admitted to carrying it with him on the night of the murder. He claimed that it was lost when the police attempted to recover the gun for testing.[4]

After the police swarmed his neighborhood looking for suspects, Redd Coles and his attorney approached the police to exonerate Coles and implicate Troy Davis. Before the police discovered Coles' lies, however, the police had issued an arrest warrant for Davis without corroborating any part of Coles’ story.[4] After the warrant was issued, Davis’ picture was plastered on wanted posters and in the local Savannah media. Davis stated that Coles had shot MacPhail.[4]

The police search of Davis' house less than 24 hours after the shooting turned up no gun.[4]

The police never searched Coles’ house for the murder weapon, never included Coles’ picture in witness photo spreads, and paraded Coles in front of four State witnesses as a mere bystander in a crime scene “reenactment.”[4]

Tierney; That's the point entirely!!!

Three different levels of the court system have refused and ignored Troy Davis's right to an Evidentiary (Evidence) Hearing ---

The NAACP has filed recently with the Supreme Court ONCE AGAIN to demand Mr. Davis's right to this due-process hearing, and yet so far quick execution is still on the Georgia prosecution's mind!

The mismanagement of this legal case is what drew my attention to it to begin with.

Would anyone reading this wish to be put to death with no evidence, no evidentiary hearing that could prove misconduct on the State of Georgia ---

To at least give your life the benefit of the doubt --- to possibly save an innocent life.

There has been NO Evidentiary Hearing, therefore this is currently not known.

WHAT IS KNOWN, IS THAT SOMEONE WANTED TROY DAVIS TO BE 'GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT', BUT WITHOUT THE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS TO BACK IT UP!!!!!!!!!!

Cole must have had a powerful lawyer who was able to direct the police search, have police ignore Cole's lie about having a .38 and present Cole to witnesses as being the "innocent bystander."

A well-connected lawyer in Georgia can even say a particular defendant doesn't exist with the defendant standing right in front of the judge. It happens!

totally agree it is troy's right to request prayer and naacp's right to oblige. just saying that mixing religion with state affairs is going to alienate people who could be helpful (separatists who disagree with the use of prayer to persuade government officials and atheists who feel unwelcome). hopefully, all who believe in the cause will go.

If prayer truly indeed can bring a miracle, then that miracle would truly be:

The U.S. Court System upholding its own law, and not just washing its hands of pure justice (in any legal case), or else there is NO Justice to speak of ---

And NO Faith in that system of law or government by the people, for the people . . . . .

It's time for a real true change and now!

Whether you have faith in the goodness of man(woman)kind or faith in God, or whatever, there is a man out there who has suffered through a great injustice and needs the support of his fellow man (or woman) in his 11th hour. What individual with any conviction at all about this cause would let religion scare him/her away?

I cannot begin to tell you what a kind and warm man Troy is. Here he is on death row and I got a letter from him today saying he was praying for me! I plan to be at this event on Saturday as it is just a hour or so from my house! I will take pictures. Thank you so much Robert for all you do and to all of you for caring.

Hello, Care2 community! Interesting news: A new study proves that the death penalty does not deter crime, so why risk executing innocent people for something that does not even work, except for revenge?

Secondly, the U.S. Supreme Court decided NOT to make post-conviction DNA testing available to all prisoners. As you know, lots of people are on death row or serving life terms who were sentenced prior to the foolproof DNA testing methods available today. According to the Innocence Project, thousands of convicted persons await the opportunity to test their evidence. Well, too bad for them.

Thirdly, I have begon advocating for another condemned man who seems wrongly convicted like Troy Davis. His name is Darrell Lomax.

God bless Troy Davis and all of you who care deeply about justice and compassion for prisoners.

Have a great day!

Mary

Catherine, If you feel anything is appropriate at any rally or function you attend you are welcome to leave when you wish. If the majority wishes to have prayer or even a candy-filled pinata and you disagree, in good conscience you do not have the right to tell them they can't do it because you disagree. You can control your own choices but not those of your fellow man. Be thankful you are free to disagree and make your own choices. Not everyone has that "luxury" in this world.

i didn't say they can't do it. just pointing out the reasons why they might want to be inclusive. the majority rarely understand the minority.

yah, Robert, I think my Dad always called them foxhole Christians, we all want our father when we are about to die, don't we?
Troy has the right to express himself, this is his own life on the line, and all should support him regardless of our belief or lack of, because it's the right thing to do. prayers most definitely can help, he has mine.
ty Robert for posting

Troy certainly has my prayers! I pray JUSTICE will be served for both Troy and officer MacPhail's family. If my family member had been murdered I would want the TRUTH not a scapegoat! Thank you Robert.
