Up until a few days ago, the secret Iranian nuclear facility was just portrayed as a heavily secured area, but now information has been given to President Barack Obama, and everyone else to a more precise set of details.

U.S. Intelligence has been aware of this nuclear plant under construction for years. They recently reported to the White House that Iran has NOT restarted its nuclear-weapons development program:

Intelligence Agencies Say No New Nukes in Iran
http://www.care2.com/news/member/844250997/1253311
http://www.newsweek.com/id/215529/

The United States decided to reveal its knowledge of this construction site after Iran sent a letter to the IAEA disclosing the site, in accordance with international law.

The reason that Iran was compelled to construct the plant in secrecy and locate it within a mountain is obvious: Israel's repeated declaration of hostile intent to bomb Iran's nuclear energy facilities - an act of naked aggression, the sort of which Israel has engaged in the past.

Israel has of course also been very secretive about its nuclear facilities, the big difference being that Israel, unlike Iran, has actually developed a nuclear weapons arsenal.

Yes, we should join with Judy in pointing out the blatant hypocrisy here and demand that Israel's nuclear weapons industry be inspected and/or restricted.

-------------------

Sources:

"The facility in question, said to be located on a secret Iranian military installation outside of the holy city of Qom and capable of housing up to 3,000 centrifuges used to enrich uranium, had been monitored by the intelligence services of the US and other nations for some time. But it wasn't until Monday that the IAEA found out about its existence, based not on any intelligence "scoop" provided by the US, but rather Iran's own voluntary declaration. Iran's actions forced the hand of the US, leading to Obama's hurried press conference Friday morning.

Beware politically motivated hype. While on the surface, Obama's dramatic intervention seemed sound, the devil is always in the details. The "rules" Iran is accused of breaking are not vague, but rather spelled out in clear terms. In accordance with Article 42 of Iran's Safeguards Agreement, and Code 3.1 of the General Part of the Subsidiary Arrangements (also known as the "additional protocol") to that agreement, Iran is obliged to inform the IAEA of any decision to construct a facility which would house operational centrifuges, and to provide preliminary design information about that facility, even if nuclear material had not been introduced. This would initiate a process of complementary access and design verification inspections by the IAEA.

This agreement was signed by Iran in December 2004. However, since the "additional protocol" has not been ratified by the Iranian parliament, and as such is not legally binding, Iran had viewed its implementation as being voluntary, and as such agreed to comply with these new measures as a confidence building measure more so than a mandated obligation.

In March 2007, Iran suspended the implementation of the modified text of Code 3.1 of the Subsidiary Arrangements General Part concerning the early provisions of design information. As such, Iran was reverting back to its legally-binding requirements of the original safeguards agreement, which did not require early declaration of nuclear-capable facilities prior to the introduction of nuclear material.

While this action is understandably vexing for the IAEA and those member states who are desirous of full transparency on the part of Iran, one cannot speak in absolute terms about Iran violating its obligations under the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. So when Obama announced that "Iran is breaking rules that all nations must follow", he is technically and legally wrong."

------------

"The United States was aware of Iran’s unfinished uranium enrichment site for several years, senior U.S. officials told CNN on Friday.

U.S. officials have known about the facility since President George W. Bush’s administration, according to the officials who declined to be identified because of the sensitive nature of the negotiations.

Iran came to realize fairly recently that the facility was no longer secret, so Washington found itself in a race with Iran to reveal the facility to the international community, the officials said.

Iran revealed the site’s existence in a letter to the International Atomic Energy Agency on Monday, the agency confirmed Friday.

That letter led the Obama administration to provide intelligence on the site to its allies — including China and Russia, in an attempt to get the two countries to support sanctions on Iran."

Regarding the "news"-poster's name and picture: the crusaders were anti-Muslim bigots, who attacked Indigenous people in the Middle East and made a genocidal war against them. There was NOTHING christian about that.

More Lies, More Deception - Who Is Breaking the Rules, Iran or the U.S.A?"

http://www.care2.com/news/member/760164053/1260577

The US government, which is currently engaged in three wars of aggression and has occupying troops in a number of other countries, insists that Iran, which is invading and occupying no country, cannot be trusted with nuclear energy capability.

Everyone who comes from a country with nuclear weapons (e.g. citizens of the USA), and who posts news and comments against Iran getting nuclear weapons is a HYPOCRIT, and has NO MORAL STANDING from which to criticise Iran.

Furthermore, if Iran tries to get nuclear weapons, it is not only fair, it is also quite a rational move, to defend against the attacks that Israel and the USA (which both have reputations of decades of warmongering) have threatened against Iran.

Are we to assume that the USA, Britain and France will now disclose all details of all their processing plants...or is this another case of one law for us and another for them. I seem to remember that one of the lies that was circulating to justify the totally illegal war in Iraq was that Saddam was starting to seek Nuclear technology...but did the world take notice as Israel, India and Pakistan all developed their nuclear capabilities...or were their programs with the West's blessings. But Iran...wow we must not let the mad mullahs have the capability of blowing our friends away...now that is double standards.

Oh sherbet we all seem to be going around the same mountain all the time... it is up to the governments to stop the pointing of the fingers, not us as individuals... we can debate and put or views across.. opinions and ideas are what makes this fun.. Lets not be like moles digging in tunnels to see what is in the mountain.. For sure if there is anything there we'll soon get to know about... the only thing that worries me really is the threats Iran makes over Israel.. in wiping out a whole nation... That is not justified.. you don't have to like each other... but tolerance and etiquitte go a long way in keeping the peace.. as hate begets violence and violence becomes murder..

Iran NEVER made threats about "wiping out a whole nation"...that is more media whore lies.

He said “Lots of hopeless people ask whether a world without America or Zionism is possible or not”? And then, added that the answer to this question is absolutely positive as the same thing was happened in Iran Monarchy case, USSR case and Saddam dictatorship case. He pointed out that the famous iron curtain collapsed and it can be found only in history books nowadays. He told that “A recent similar case is Saddam, who assumed himself immortal and eternal, but today his legs and arms are chained and he is adjudicated by his former collaborators today” and following these examples he made a quotation from the Imam Khomeini’s speech and said “As the Imam said, the Occupier regime of al-Qods must be wiped off the map”. Than he continued to defend the Palestinians right of having their own territories and own government. The rest of his speech is about supporting Palestine in their justified case, confronting Zionist regime and warning other Islamic countries not to make cooperation with Israel.

"After giving a brief of this speech it will be easier to interpret the meaning of words. First of all; the striking slogan does not belong to Mr. Ahmedinejad and it is a quotation from Imam Khomeini’s speech. Second, it was used to say that no system is eternal and no unjust regime is undefeatable. Third; phrases can be interpreted in many ways and the result depends on the interpreter’s intention and goodwill. And finally, the words saying that “the occupier regime of Al-Qods must wipe off the map” just mean the Zionist regime not Israeli and Jewish people. The Islamic Republic of Iran’s anti-zionist and anti-american approach is not a new thing. The “death to America” and “death to Israel” slogans exist since the first days of the revolution. But these slogans aimed at American government and Zionist Regime not their nations and people. On the other hand, both America and Israel declares that the Islamic Regime in Iran shall collapse in every occasion. So what is the difference between both sides’ intentions? Do we have to interpret that both Israel and America wish Iran to be wiped of the map, or do we have to understand that their problem is the current Islamic system in Iran? Hence, it will be useful to evaluate the events objectively. "

Iran's nuclear facilities have closed circuit tv cameras installed in them that are monitored by the IAEA 24X7.

An attack on Iran is organized evil. I'm watching the media set this up.
Please don't fall for this.

Iran has no nukes and Israel plans to nuke it . It's World War AGAIN!

This is just so ominous. The agression on our part and that of Israel is all the more treacherous because we are willfully blind to our own faults, and project them on our enemies, whether or not they are guilty. As always, the innocent will suffer the most as a result of this deadly game.

Reading this article and looking closely at the photos, I got goosebumps and they just came like waves over my entire body.

Totally disturbing - don't really have a reply on this all I am doing right now is shaking my head at what is going on.

To much is taking place right now for me to feel any type of comfort, and I am so sad for the younger generation growing up with all of this.

Just way to bad that we can't get back to those days before the first bomb was created and dropped..then after that every entire World wanted in on the action. Building bigger and better weapons, secret facilities, etc.

Jeepers this is disturbing!!!

Thanks Sir Robert for getting this out there, please keep this news and information coming, informed people are hopefully alive people!!!

I want to make another comment. For more than 50 years the world has been bombarded with the same old news of the bickering and murdering in the Middle East.

Some would say just put an end to the whole region and shut up already so the world can get on with it's affairs! I agree.

We have animals being killed maliciously, humans killing other humans here at home. Do we really need to live through the drama of another region?

Yes I know it is a threat to the world, but as I said,. as it has been suggested, maybe a final solution is just to hold the middle east accountable for there own affairs, and all we should do is be sure we are not harmed by it. What more can we do with these people? Really.

Thank God I am an Animal Activist as I use Care2 for that and Human Rights. Proselytizing with Care2 profiles of anti this country and that in my opinion is moronic and childish!

The people who know who they are should start to use this site for what it is meant, to CARE~! NOT HATE!

ENOUGH ALREADY, ANIMALS NEED US!

Thank you again Sir Robert,
Nick
