From California to Maine, there have been outbreaks of 'hundreds' of incidents revealing stubborn racism in America. From cross burnings to school children chanting "assassinate Obama"!

Thanks for this post, Robert.

I wouldn't take any of this lightly, as one of the last people quoted at the end of the article does.

The Southern Poverty Law Center,
which is mentioned in the article, has an excellent site, with 'Intelligent Project,' 'Intelligence Report' and 'HateWatch' features, and they monitor the activity of hate groups, white supremacists & KKK people around the nation. They've been defending the victims of racist crimes and reporting on these issues for a long time, whether or not individual lawsuits or incidents make it to the mainstream media. Their site is worth bookmarking.

Unfortunately, it looks like they're going to be much busier than before. And Americans who have their pro-Obama posters defaced and their pro-Obama sentiments attacked are going to realize that racism has to be dealt with and their freedom to express their preferences better defended.

All the examples in the article are disgusting, but the little children chanting 'Assassinate Obama,' is particularly chilling ! I am surprised by the frequency and prevalence of the incidents reported.

As I have been proudly thinking to myself and sharing with my foreign friends, Obama's landslide victory proves that we (who elected him) are all the children of Martin Luther King. He awakened us to the ills of our country -discrimination, inequality, Jim Crow - and we grew up, in age and/or spirit, on his message of justice for all and love for our fellow human beings...or, rather, many of us did.

Relatively few Northern whites knew how deeply embedded the persecutions & the KKK reign of terror were in our society.

We should never forget that the dramatic change in our country came through years of hard work in the field, sacrifice & life-threatening commitment. The young people who went down South to desegregate bus terminals and work in the voter registration drives had to force the hand of the Justice Department again & again when they were arrested by local 'law enforcement' completely in the hands of KKK members & sympathizers, along with local African-Americans who'd dared to become activists. They were totally vulnerable down there, in a legal 'no man's land' of police brutality and abuse, with no protection: again & again they had to get a sympathetic DOJ attorney to intervene 'unofficially,' to get them released from jail and 'remind' local authorities that Washington 'knew' what was happening & was watching (sort of...). The white 'outside agitators' were not usually bodily harmed (notable exception: the 2 who were murdered in Mississippi, Goodman & Schwerner). The African-American activists were more often than not beaten to a pulp.

This part of the struggle that took place in the small places of our remote rural South never got the wide press coverage of Martin Luther King's campaigns and marches, which, having succeeded in mobilizing more and more people, could no longer be ignored by the media.

We should remember today that it took a hundred federal marshals to enroll a lone black Air Force veteran named James Meredith at Ole Miss, and over 10,000 federal troops, including elite elements of the 82nd Airborne Division, to eventually quell the ensuing riot that left two men dead and a pall of teargas hanging for days over the magnolia-and-redbud-emblazoned campus.

Our civil rights legislation was the culmination of a long, hard, harsh & brutal struggle, and it looks like it isn't over.

Thank you Robert for the story and thank you Alba for your contributions. It truly makes your heart stand still to think there are children calling for the murder of a head of state. That they can't think past their narrow evil prejudices handed down through their elders and see that this is an expression of the acceptance of a PERSON by the American electorate. That PERSON will be judged by his deeds but the nation as a whole has shown they can look past time-worn hatreds and prejudices. It's a start, but obviously not the end.

This racism isn't really a huge surprise, considering the KKK is alive and well in the south. It isn't pretty, but our open ended freedom of speech allows Nazis and skinheads to freely roam among us. I will be hoping noone can bring this to fruitation...thanks, Robert.

If certain people would stop preaching so much hate, maybe our new President just might have a chance! That horrid witch Palin put so much hate out there I hope an avalanche befalls her! Such a danger to humanity and animals! Great, my husband just called in and said Discovery channel has a special on President Kennedy! Just what we need to watch as I am posting!!! I pray, I pray, that our President will be alright! Please, everyone needs to think positive thoughts! We have a chance! I love to see our children and grand children excited once again! That to any "decent" and "loving" parent should be a gift! Thank you dear Robert! Noted! Thank you Alba!

This country never ceases to amaze me. Racism is barbaric and it sheds light on the ignorant and intolerant. I didn't vote for Obama but I will defend his right to be president against any and all opposition. This election showed the world that we are ready to put race issues behind us. These idiots burning crosses and threatening Obama and his supporters need to be locked up and taught a lesson. Every one of those people should be charged with the felonies they've committed. Hate crimes and threats on a president-elects life are not to be taken lightly. And for the record, all people are from Africa...

Even if you disagree with Obama and his politics, how can you advocate violence towards a man -- and even worse, teach your children to call for violence? This is just sick. I am sure there are people upset with the election's results, but it serves no one to stay divided -- especially when one side is advocating hate and violence.

Noted and thank you Robert !
I knew this would be the result that would come from the McCain and Palin campaign that incited groups of people who had these racist and dangerous minds and frankly they should have known this could happen just as I did. All these people need is someone like Palin and McCain to give them the nenue and they take that as permission to do their evil deeds.
The moment I saw and heard these people at Palin's rally's I felt ill inside,I felt like the McCain campaign was taking us back to the 60's again.Racism is nothing more than ignorance and a fear of something or someone we don't understand .Its sad to see that some people want to live in that fear and hatred rather than opening up their minds and hearts to understanding that we are all in this together !

“What you do to others… You do to yourself”. This simple message needs to be spread around the world. This applies to negative and positive action of every kind.
We are entering the new Earth and if people would only take this phrase to heart and keep it in the forefront of their lives, there would be such a drastic reduction in senseless acts and violent thoughts against each other.

During this crucial time on our planet, many of us are working tirelessly on so many positive levels to help bring about the necessary changes to elevate this planet from the old energy to the new energy. Approaches from thousands of years ago that have been used to control and cast fear into the population clearly do not apply any more. The old energy certainly had its place in its time but if it continues, will hold back this planet and keep many in the dark. There must be no more fear or manipulation.

We are much smarter than that and the time has come to take back your personal power in order to bring about the positive changes needed in your life. This power is yours by birthright and no one has the right to deny you of what is rightfully yours by telling you that you are unworthy the moment of birth. Your dignity, power and freedom are stripped away at birth by presumptuous frightened people wielding the old energy??? What an utterly preposterous idea!!!

Once you get your own life in order, everything will fall into order around you. Violence, lies, cheating, theft, malicious behavior, etc, etc, etc, are all a complete waste of time and energy. The people who commit such acts rarely have the insight to know it hurts them as well. Everyone must realize all the positive changes that will come about, like lightening, once people give up negative thought and action.
Spread this around as you communicate with your own groups-
“What you do to others… You do to yourself”.

Only ignorant, frustrated inferior beings can behave in such a racist way.

The USA can only gain with President Obama. Just by getting elected, he made the rest of the world stop hating America... And believe me, bush and his administration managed to put the entire world against the USA.

So, you should all be thankful for Obama being the President-elect.
I have mentioned this before and will say it again: President Obama is not a saviour nor perfect! But hell, he's the only shot you have to get back on our feet, at all levels!
Right now, if he can't do it no one else can!

For evolved intelligent people, this race issue is incomprehensible!
So what if the colour of his skin is a little bit darker!? Don't we white people got to the beach to get a tan? Hello!?

Those ignorant racists don't even deserve to live in such a country as the USA. It's a too good country for that kind of human trash! They should be forced to live in some foreign countries for a year! Then they would change their minds about those 'issues'. They have no idea how lucky they are to live in the USA!!

Do they think they have the right to be Americans just because they were born there? Actually, if we look at things from their 'point of view' you are all foreigners!!! The only 'true' Americans are the Native-Americans!

Maybe they should reclaim their territory and expel the rest of you from America! Would those racists like that? I mean, they are the descendants of the invaders who murdered the native peoples of America!

Ignorant people! Hell with them!

And Darren, very well put! :)

Surely George W. Bush, who hates black people, secretly must have been deeply saddened, disappointed, and angry relative to Barack Obama’s victory and Obama being America’s first black president.
