On the television shows, don't police talk suicidal people out of dangerous situations? Well, TV isn't real life, discovered this African American man from Columbia, MO, who was obviously stressed about his life and threatening suicide. SEE video!

Thanks Mary my friend, sadly noted.

I will say this again, as I have stated many times before, I am sooooo against the use of taser guns, that I write emails and my officials on these very dangerous weapons in the hands of people who use them for no reason. There are other ways to subdue a suspect, other then tasering them.

Let's see now, how many deaths are contributed to the use of these insane weapons? On so many innocent people, an autistic child, a woman in a wheelchair, a sick young man, so very many more.

I call a halt to using Taser guns, they kill!
TY for this article Mary.
Many blessings,

And yet, once again... the police act first, think later! To me, taser's seem about as dangerous as guns are. Neither seem to be properly used by the police in a lot of instances lately. There were other alternatives... Geez, my dad once talked a man into not committing suicide before. This was in the middle of The Blue Water Bridge. (Bridge going from Michigan to Ontario, Canada)... My dad wasn't an expert and he knew what to do! (Love ya dad! :)) Anyhow, I hope the man will be alright and is able to get the help he needs. Thanks Mary.

I am sure that many humane law officers would have handled the situation differently. Unfortunately, we don't hear about their stories enough. I wish people like your father were given resources to teach our police basic negotiation skills for dealing with traumatized citizens. Maybe this will happen once enough people register their disgust with the way mentally and emotionally imbalanced people are often treated in America. Rape victims have special officers to handle their cases. Hostage negotiators are called whenever innocent people are being held captive. Our mentally ill citizens need specially trained police officers, also, to ensure their safe passage through volatile situations. What do you think? The money taxpayers would save not having to pay for wrongful death and excessive use of force lawsuits should more than cover the cost of special officer training.

These guns should be outlawed! But, as an alternative the voltage level should be reduced. Truly is does not take much to bring an individual down, just long enough to subdue & handcuff!!

It would be a plus if police officers had better psycology training, however, I'm sure they would object to the additional costs involved. Before taking tasers away, please consider that before they were available, a lot of nervous police shot-to-kill mentally ill people who charged them with a knife. Good post, Mary, and my prayers to this man's family.

Police are using tranquilizer needles in some cases now. There was a recent Care2 article about it. Did y'all see it? I believe six citizens of Nashville, TN have been arrested this year who police say were suffering from excited delirium. I know the thought of police injecting citizens alarms us, but I do not believe any of those six people died. Too often, police use Tasers and live bullets on mentally ill citizens even when they pose no immediate threat, but sometimes it really is necessary that police act quickly to save lives. Maybe tranquilizers are the answer. It is something to think about.

Thank you to all who are concerned about our mentally ill citizens and the way they are treated. No longer can we allow homelessness, prison, and death to be America's answer to mental health problems.

Tazers were a big mistake to give to the average law enforcement officer. Tranquilizer injections are as dangerous. There needs to be a serious overhaul in law enforcement and SOON. If they don't kill you with bullets, they will electrocute you or stick you with a drug that can (kill) render you senseless, they can do with you what they will and you will NOT remember it. What's the next toy for the Boyz in Blu...get this...a lazer weapon that gives the sensation of burning your flesh...but is ...non-lethal...yeah right....give it the brownshirts...they will find a way to make it lethal. Whatever happened to police one could trust? Police that did protect and serve? Police that didn't shoot first, ask later? They are almost extinct--buried in the department's recesses and have been/are being replaced by the goose-stepping SS goons with a love of torture and death.

Tasers need to be outlawed immediately. Far too many people have been "murdered" by "police".

TY, Mary.

This taser thing continues to escalate. These stories are getting worse everyday! This has to stop! The cops need to stop treating them like toys and treat them like the lethal weapon that they are.
