By acknowledging that step and thanking them for it, we'll not only help them keep their promise -- we'll encourage other companies to follow suit.

Sorry Teresa, but I'm tired of thanking companies for doing the right thing, and B&J is a prime example...

"Ben & Jerry’s parent company, Unilever, spent $467,100 against ballot measure Proposition 37, the recent failed referendum to mandate GMO labeling, in California last year.
But Ben & Jerry’s has distanced itself from the actions of its parent company, despite a call for a national boycott against Ben & Jerry’s and other firms whose corporate parents spent money on advertising favoring a no vote on Prop 37.
The boycott was called by national agriculture advocacy group the Organic Consumers Association (OCA) late last year."
Voters in both WA and Vermont, (and probably elsewhere) have reached out to them to donate to our GMO labeling campaigns this year as well, and they're totaly chickenshit avoidance reply is that they are "getting out of politics".

What they mean is that they won't do anythingto rock Unilever's boat.

Looks like I'll never again taste my beloved "Chunky Monkey", but at least I won't choke on their hipocracy either.

B&Js is part of Unilever? No wonder I never liked their ice cream. I could never understand what all the fuss was about. It tasted worse than skim milk and there was never enough fruit in their strawberry flavor for the price you paid. It was bad enough that Unilever products used benzene based chemicals in their other products.
Let's see if B&Js really divest themselves from using non natural milk products; fruit products and any other GMO. Does anyone know whether they use palm oil or canola oil?

Frankly folks I must confess....
I would LOVE to have GMOS GONE !!!!
I WORRY about GMO'S but....they have become so very PREVALENT in our food system that I am not sure exactly how I can avoid eating them.
Their very nature (unnature) of existence makes the items CHEAPer and I have very few Xdollars to spend each month.
In reality I CAN NOT buy icecream anyway no matter what it contains.
I look at good "clean" healthy food prices and look at what I have to spend and welllllllll......I fill my stomach and take GOOD vitamins.
Seriously...that $30 bucks gets me three months of nutrition as apposed to 3 meals.
Just sayin'.

Why would I thank someone for doing something they should be doing anyway? I also don´t see old women on the subway thanking me for not robbing them, because refraining from robbing anyone should be taken for granted. So should not putting stuff in food that is potentially dangerous.

Not signed this - they may have removed GMO's but the last time I looked at the list of ingredients I put it firmly back on the shelf. It contained so many additives - things that should not be present in any so called "natural" product

Only ice cream I buy is made in Cornwall and is so delicious with a list of approx. 3 or 4 ingredients. They are making so much money from feeding people chemicals

Just found this open petition on it may be old and just never closed, but apparently palm oil was used at one time...

And this next piece of info is old, and totally...YUCK!
"This week, it was revealed that Unilever, who own Wall?s, Magnum, Carte d and Ben & Jerry's, have applied to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) for permission to add to a diet range of frozen fruit ices a protein created using GM technology from the blood of an ocean pout, an eel-like creature that lives in the North Atlantic.

Man, we really need to start reading labels along with an encyclopedia!

They're removing GMO's from their products?

a) Why were they there in the first place?

b) Are they removing them because they care about people and the planet or because their sales figures have fallen?

John De Avalon (36)

I wish they'd remove all dairy from their products!!!!

Thanks Teresa for posting this. I can't understand were my signature and comment are as I noted and signed this a couple of days ago. Anyway I although I signed I agree with Ellen M as I'm also tired of thanking companies for doing the right thing. Ben & Jerry's being an example.
We all should read labels and use our common sense. I understand it's not easy to feed our families in healthy ways like the good old days but we should try as much as we can. Natural foods are not so Natural. Advertised as such just to make money. Greedy people!

Thanks for posting this Teresa - on rechecking the list of ingredients the other day - I see that they now list free-range eggs and other natural ingredients which is a great improvement (was about 4 or 5 years ago that I looked at the ingredients) should have checked before commenting here

It's a great PR stunt to get all the silly people to buy their ice cream, but not only will the cruelty of industrial dairy be continued...but this PR "pledge" doesn't include getting milk from cows that eat GMO feed.

Of course, GMOs are safe, but the pinhead consumers need to know that if they are really too skeered of GMOs to think sensibly then they should know that the cows make milk from that GMO you all are so frightened of. How much is Ben and Jerry paying you to advertise for them, Teresa?
