I am very sorry to hear about the drought. I had read about it in the news, also about the awful bush-fires. The pictures sadden me. We had a 15yr drought in Australia.

Many people in Calif. really don't take the drought seriously. There are still city governments that are punishing people for letting their lawns dry up!

Hm! Water is a necessity of life and the human populations everywhere are putting pressure on the supply by multiplying more rapidly than the system can cope. It is a major problem here in Aus' also and conserving water every way possible is paramount. So installing tanks and collecting water from run off is encouraged to water plants.
Killing river systems seems to me a draconian way to get water so more thought is needed for the future.

But, but ...climate change isn't real! Fox Newz said it was made up by Obama so he could send Detroit's water to Kenya, create death panels, and spread Socialism to Canada.

Seriously, the ramifications of this drought have yet to be felt. Food prices will skyrocket.

As Judith says we had many years of drought in Australia, everything must change, we had new laws put into place to prohibit the watering of lawns, washing cars, etc. Water rates sky rocketed & South Australia where i am was a mighty dry & ugly place for a while.
Be careful with your water usage, the rains will return again.
