I just finished two chores -- I just went grocery shopping and I put gas in my car. And I've got to tell you, "mad" doesn't even begin to describe how I feel. In fact, storming the Bastille rage doesn't even come close.

I spent $1620 on groceries today...I spent another $165 on food the other day...today's trip was just for the things I forgot...and anybody who wants to see high gas prices should come and visit ME! Connecticut consistently has some of the highest gasoline prices in the country..right up there with Alaska and California.

In Italy what you call 'gas' costs €1.60 for 1 litre. That is about $2.40 for 1 litre - and rising constantly. 1 gallon is 4.54 litres so let's do some sums. We pay about $10.89 per gallon for what I call petrol. And now for why I noted the difference between gas and petrol. TG my hubby just bought me a hybrid (very samll) car - starts on petrol and automatically goes over to gas - called GPL here - after about 100 metres. But the funny thing about this all is that it is made by.......... CHEVROLET!! So now I spend €16 (about $24) to fill up with gas (GPL) whereas I used to spend €60+ ($90+) to fill up my VW Polo. I have filled up twice since I got the car about a month ago so about €32 ($48) and have done about 800 km/500 miles. :-)))

Nnted. To add insult to injury of astronomical price increases, I received my energy bill today...the first one truly reflective of the barrage of price increases for oil...and though it was but 12:30 I had a glass of wine to steady my nerves and to sweeten my disposition. No wonder that more and more people are sleeping in their cars, double-locking the gas cap in their cars...and even (this is true!) padlocking the garage refrigerator and freezer. I don't even like to grocery shop anymore and am sick at heart when a toddler at the store cried because Mommy said they could not buy milk that day!

Infuriating, yes. (Good point, Linda!) People will just have to realize tht the wild and wasteful party, AKA the USA, is over. I doubt that fuel and food prices will ever come down. The US is becoming more like "developing countries", where food has always been the biggest part of the budget.

And definitely we're being gouged by the corporate pigs, they are foolish enough to think that they can last if regular folks----their customers----cannot!
