US incarceration rates are climbing even higher. Statistics released today by the Bureau of Justice Statistics show that for every 100,000 American Citizens 762 are in Prison. No other Nation in the world puts this many of its People in Prison.

The reason we have so many in prison is very simple..........

We have too much freedom! But at the same time if one is poor & white we get slammed. If one is a minority they are all innocent according to their mothers and they really are good boys. lol

The government allows you the freedom to do as you please wether you are black or white or maybe even brown.....But you really gotta watch your step or you are going to get steped on.

Sooooo all this precious freedom is being abused to some extent on both ends, the law or the ones abusing the freedom they have.

Just because you are poor & white does not give you the right to do as you please. Just because you are black does not give you the right to commIt a crime & then yell racism..........

In spite of what this article is about there are millions upon millions of people living perfectly honorable decent lives. It really is that percentage of our population who can't seem to get it right, even if their skin is rainbow colored

Hi Bette,
I certainly respect your opinion on the article and Thanks for Commenting. My point with this article is that our Nation has incarcerated 2.5 Million of us. Thats more than any other nation on the planet. It really doesn't matter whether the US Citizen incarcerated is Black, White, Green, Red, Orange, Brown or Rainbow. We all live under the Constitution of the United States which guarantees our Freedom from oppressive government. The Constitution doesn't put restrictions on the Citizens of the USA, its puts restrictions on the Power of our Government to infringe on our Freedoms.

It has been obvious for quite some time that incarceration does not end the crime problem. The "elephant in the room" question is: what will? Change laws? Chop off hands for stealing? Bring in psychiatrists and dole out drugs? Mandatory castration for sexual offenses? Feedback, please, Care2 folks, and you too, Town. Which nation has the best system to solve our problem?

It's our Congress (federal & State) that has to be held accountable.

They make the public laws that define what a crime is.

The Controlled Substances Act is one of the worst laws ever written in the US.

It gives our government power over every aspect of our life.

Before Mandatory Drug Sentencing came about we had about 200,000 Citizens in Prison, now there is 2.5 Million.

We have the Private Contractors running the judicial & prison systems in America.

The largest Prison Contractor is a company based in Europe.

Our Government uses Private Contractors for Drug/Family courts, Drug Tests, Drug Monitoring, Probationers, and every psychological, behavioral class you can think of.

I think it can be fixed by taking Taxpayer Money and Archaic Drug Laws out of the System.

Town....I do agree with the very last line of your comment......And thank you for graciously acknowledging my thoughts.

There are many viewpoints and angles to what is going on with the judicial system today.....Some of our freedoms are being eroded by small minded big shots to be sure.
