ocean conditions early in the year have been similar to those of an El Niño, with warm surface waters and low nutrient levels. The effects have rippled through the food web, reducing the amount of food available for fish, seabirds, and marine mammals.

Maybe that is why the sealions are swimming far up the Columbia River to the dam at The Dalles to feed on Salmon. Fishermen are upset but at least they can go to the grocery store for their food. Killing of sealions has been approved because of this new feeding habit on the fish ladders.
