When it comes to leg-hold traps, most people envision something out of a cartoon, where Wile E. Coyote steps in the trap and then hops around holding a big, fat, throbbing red toe. In reality, there's no humor in such traps. Take the case in January,

My grandfather had a collection of traps, using all sizes from bear (with teeth) down, as a child I saw some frozen animals which had died sometime during the week or more they were caught.
Some will attempt to chew their own leg off to escape. A strong trap will lacerate and seemed sometimes to break the trapped leg.

This is a Connecticut article. SHould you live there, you might want to influence their legislature to ban. As the article says, many vocal hunters are agiotating against the ban.
