The egg industry's busiest time of year is the Easter season. After the holiday passes, "sales go down, but the hens keep on laying eggs," says the American Egg Board. In an effort to boost post-holiday sales, egg producers across the country celebrate

If people quit eating eggs, what will happen to the hens? They will be killed anyway. If people no longer eat chicken, the hens will be killed anyway and their bodies buried in mass graves or turned into pet food. They, and many other farm animals, have grown so dependent on us that they could no longer live in the wild and will therefore go extinct. So what's the use? If you prefer extinction to farm life for animals (and I refer to family farms, not the cesspools called "factory farms", which should indeed be outlawed), go ahead! I do not.

Dale: Many of us live in big cities and have no access to eggs from small farmers who we know are treating the hens with respect and compassion. If we stopped buying eggs domesticated hens would not become extinct. People would still keep them as pets or on small farms. What vegans are trying to do is not let their money go to support factory farms, which you have already admitted to being despicable. You see, hens are bred at mass rates, because of the "use" for them in the food industry. Without a demand for their meat or eggs they would not be bred.

Thanks Simone. I cracked the egg habit 3 years ago and I have never regretted it for a day. :)

Dale, your arguement is rediculous. I'm not going to keep supporting the enslavement, torture, and murder of others even if they belong to a species that exists solely to serve human cruelty.

Thank you Simone, already vegan. Glad you are bringing this up especially since today May 4 09 is International Respect for Chickens day! The entire month of May is International Respect for Chickens month. To celebrate the most abused creatures on the planet. The chicken and its eggs.

I would rather have the specie extinct than breed them and torture them. If the demand goes down, only smalltime farmers will breed them and can sell it in local farm markets if anyone needs them. This way atleast torture is reduced. I take cagefree and vegetarian eggs but now will be stopping that too.
