Being a vegan is definitely more of a lifestyle choice and a philosophy than a diet. A vegan does not eat anything that is of animal origin. Vegans will not use animal based products for clothing, or any other purpose. A person can become a vegan because

Glad to be vegan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if there weren't any benefits other then having a moral conscious in a world full of those who seem to lack any sense of compassion or love for God's other creatures.

I am free - from the guilt that I used to push down beneath many excuses.

I can be truly, completely happy - knowing that no living creatures are suffering because of my existence on this planet earth, knowing that I caused the least amount of damage to the environment, knowing that I can face my children one day and say - Yes, I have tried everything I can to leave you the earth as it should be.

when you compare with how much the animals had to go through, we are only letting go of the things that are not healthy for us, animals and the environment.

Personally, I found that I become more creative with my cooking and tried manythings I would not have bothered before and it's so much fun.

I am truly sick of all this "vegan" stuff. I don't eat as much red meat as I used to but am still basically a carnivorous animal myself.
I'm a "country boy" and a country boy can survive.
To paraphrase Hank Williams Jr: "I can plow a field all day long. I can catch catfish from dusk til dawn. I grow good ol tomatoes. Make homemade wine. We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too. I can skin a buck and run a trot-line and a Country boy can survive."

I could possibly live to be 100 if I gave up everything that would make me WANT to live to be 100.
No thanks.

Tim, please wake up ! The fact that someone is a gifted singer doesn't make him a worthy example for others to follow. And Hank Williams is no exception to that rule. So why allow some clueless, dumb song text to govern your life. Life is infinitely more than survival. Any idiot can survive. It doesn't take any wisdom whatever.

Vegetarian since 1977. Still struggling with the vegan. It's hard to find out what animal products are in foods and other things too. There are animal by-products in car and bike tires and lots of other things that can't be avoided in real life. I guess just do the best you can do...

Thank you Simone, Awareness is key. Many people still don't understand the effects meat consumption has on their body's much less on the planet. I still eat meat once in a while, but am trying to completely eliminate meat from my diet by the end of the year.
