Once you've decided to adopt a vegan diet and lifestyle you may find that you are so passionate about your new lifestyle that you feel compelled to actively support and advocate for the causes that can be connected with the decision to go vegan. From

Let's not be a advocate because vegan's quickly become harrassing to people who don't share their ideals or care to join their cause. Let's all be a advocate for letting people alone and staying out of what's on their plate.Harrassment from a vegan is not going to make me stop eating meat.

I am a vegetarian advocate Raine, it has nothing to do with harrassing people. I do not harrass people if they eat meat, that is their choice, and being a vegan advocate doesnt apply either.

I strongly advocate being a vegetarian or a vegan as I think it is a healthy way of life and I don't approve of killing animals for food if it is not necessary. I, myself, find it difficult to make a complete change of lifestyle.

I think educating not preaching is the only way to open peoples minds. The problem lies with the close minded ones who won't open their minds to learn or even listen to anything new. Too scary for them I guess.
Thanks Simone

Humans are classic examples of omnivores in all relevant anatomical traits. There is no basis in anatomy or physiology for the assumption that humans are pre-adapted to the vegetarian diet. For that reason, the best arguments in support of a meat-free diet remain ecological, ethical, and health concerns.

[Dr. McArdle is a vegetarian and currently Scientific Advisor to The American Anti-Vivisection Society. He is an anatomist and a primatologist.]
So there!!!
You wanna eat meat, eat meat. You wanna eat veg, eat veg. Just shut up about it, it's a personal choice thing. Go get a life.

NO! Humans and animals are not equal and will not be equal until animals begin to make conscious ethical decisions of their own. Carnivore, omnivore and herbivore are genetic biologic metabolisms that determine dietary/ consumption needs. Veganism is an affectation used to try to distinguish its followers from the cud chewing gazers associated with herbivores. And whether or not they like it they look more and more like a cult pushing human - animal equality, when do chimps get citizenship, the vote, or the right to marry; farfetched, maybe, check some of the animal rights news from Spain, but just how extreme do they or are they williing to carry their ethics/morals? One would reasonably and logicly conclude that: that since the following involve animal produts, by-products, parts or testing that they are opposed by, not used by, or allowed to the children of the Herbivore Nation, Vegans if you want; breast feeding babys or the use of animal based formulas,anti-venoms, vaccines, transfusions or any blood factors or plasma or donations, organ transplants and donations, control of disease transmitting insect or vermine, any medical profession that perscribs, administers, or performs any of the above; if the taking life other than food is also totally unacceptable then you can add all military service include the medics, doctors nuses etc for the reasons above and aerospace, metalurgical, information technology, bio research etc as they all can and do have military application to increase the effectiveness of the military and killing, there are no kill free wars and the entire military is designed to fight war in the most effective manner possible. So just how far does the rabbit hole go? I almost forgot pets is it ethical to subjugate, imprison and breed them for genetic charicteristics that just make them more appealing to people regardless of the health related consequences all without their consent? Just asking the questions that always come to my mind when they start preaching and telling others what they should and should not do.

yay Simone - good for you for speaking up :) I personally refuse to participate in the senseless torture and slaughter of animals for people's pleasure. And it is unbelievably difficult to stand by and say / do nothing while it is happening, so I totally relate to your post. We absolutely have the right and the responsibility to be advocates. One of my favorite sayings is from Colleen Patrick-Goudrea - Just because you can't do everything, doesn't mean you shouldn't do anything. Do Something.

Just found this on vegansoapbox.com and thought it was relevant here:

You certainly don’t need to believe that animals are equal to humans in order to decide not to eat animals.

For example, there are plenty of things that you don’t call food, even if some other people do:

Feces – Even though James Orr seems to think that feces are an appropriate food source during court, you probably don’t. And you don’t need to believe in “feces rights” in order to choose not to eat feces.

Placenta – Even though Joel Stein did it, most husbands don’t. And you don’t need to worry about placenta’s property status in order to keep placenta off the menu.

Urine - While there are fans of golden showers and drinkers of urine, it’s not on any menu I’ve ever seen. And I live in Las Vegas.

Boogers - Even if the weird kid in kindergarten ate his nasal secretions, I sincerely doubt you do. And you don’t have to use Utilitarianism to make that decision.

Glass - Magicians and suicidal people swallow glass, but admit it, it’s not food. And you don’t need a Theory of Justice to put your empty beer bottles in a recycling bin instead of your abdomen.

Natto, Vegemite, and other “acquired tastes” - Though plenty of people love the stuff, even more think it’s absolutely disgusting.
