I think it only fair to point out that trapping is a method allowed and encouraged by the FWS in many National Wildlife Refuges because these are breeding grounds for many kinds of birds including endangered species. These nesting birds are especially vulnerable to small fur-bearing animals Racoons are especially harmful. Muskrat and beaver trapping is also encouraged to reduce damage to the dikes and other structures which maintain these wetlands.
When trapping was outlawed in California in the 1990's the Audubon Society was concerned because of the many endangered bird species there.
So there are 2 sides to this story.
