There is a great deal of discussion about what "vegan" means. "Veganism" means at the very least not eating any flesh, dairy, or other animal products. In this sense, "vegan" means "vegan diet." Donald Watson, who originally coined the term "vegan" us

Vegans ROCK!!!!!!

On this day of your life, Simone, I believe God wants you to know...

...that imagination is your greatest gift. Do not be afraid

to use it.

Imagine yourself as being okay right now. Totally okay.

Imagine yourself as Whole, Complete, and Perfect. With

nothing to change, nothing to "improve."

Imagine your heart as being open again, your life as if it

were starting over in the most important ways. Can you

imagine this? Then you have just created Tomorrow.

You will not have to think but a second to know

exactly why you read this message just now.- NDW

Thx Simone , for showing humanity another 'WAY", by your life led, :):):):):):) You rock and inspire me!

O' Lawdy this here "vegan?' thing has gone way too far. We as humans are omnivores. We consume both the flesh of animals and vegetable matter (plants).

That last sentence in the article really rips it. ( "If you are not vegan, go vegan. It is incredibly easy to be vegan. It is better for your health and for the planet. But, most importantly, it is the morally right thing to do.") Bull CaCa! Do you think that it is morally wrong for a lion, a wolf, or any other carnivore to bring down prey and consume it? I guess you also think it is morally wrong to shear sheep for their wool. And what about silk? That is also an animal product. Humans are the only animals that really comprehend their own mortality so we try to cheat death. Well we cannot! We may be able to get in a few more heartbeats but we will never cheat death. Not through religion and not through diet nor anything else. "You can live to be a hundred if you give up every that would make you want to live to be a hundred."

Amen! Tim, the one simple fact is the only cause of death is birth. The other thing about this cult, I would call it a movement but their relgious adherence to their beliefs in spite of the sheer biologic fallicy of their arguments makes them a cult; that really leaps the bounds of reasonable thought is the statement 'anyone anywhere can live vegan', vegan diet and survival are totally dependant on modern technology fro the shipping and storage of vegan fodder to climates where fruits, vegetables etc are out of season, can not be grown or must be processed for storage for extended periods of time, and I am sure that the Darfur refugees will be happy to know that with no money, no land to cultivate and no security to make it safe to cultivate they to can live vegan what a bunch of BS, veganism is an affectation of the well off more developed mostly western world where food of all kinds, if you have the money, is always plentiful and available often to the point as with the US, Austrailia obesity is the norm not the starvation soprevalent in the majority of the world's population. And vegan diet is far from green when you consider the transport , storage and processing(particularly of things like soy that are of absolutly no nutritional use or value to humans not to mention biologically detrimental. I would give up trying to point this out as they are immune to facts and reason, but the miind blowing intentional ignorance and constant attempts to regulate away the rights of others to eat and live as they wish just makes my blood boil and again and again I just have to speak up.

Tim & Lloyd, Very well expressed and of course I endorse your sentiments completely.
What I can't understand about vegetarians, vegans or anyone else who advocates a radical diet is why they have the need to publicly push their views and try to convince others that they are right and meat eaters are wrong and evil.
Now if I was to discuss how much I really enjoy a nice big juicy T-bone steak, a roast leg of lamb or pork chops with apple sauce, I would not be too surprised to be harshly criticised by them for it. "How distasteful" they will cry when it is their diet that really is bland and distasteful.
Yet they see it as perfectly acceptable to talk about bean curd, lentils and whole oats till the cows come home.
To repeat myself again, if you choose to eat beans, berries, broccoli or beetroot or even grass for that matter go quietly on with the choice you have made and don't bother others with what is a basic human function, the same as drinking, sleeping, breathing and pooping.
Your views are best kept to yourselves because they are not at all interesting to others.

Jeez, Merv - what a condescending attitude you have. I am a long-time vegan and I appreciate Simone's views and find them VERY interesting! Before I went veg, I was defensive too - and I realize now it was due to a guilty conscience. Think about it.

Anne P,
I have thought about it. Why would anyone have a guilty conscience, for what exactly??
My attitude condescending? No, try provoked.
As I've said repeatedly I have no objection to like minded people discussing their views and If people want to eat particular foods, so be it, go do it. I respect their choice and am not critical of it.
But leave off your condescending, lecturing, holier than thou, I'm right and your wrong bullshit.
It’s one thing to become obsessed by your own beliefs but it is offensive when you instigate attacks on others because they are not believers.
Like those who have found religion, straight away they must convert the world.
Celebrating your beliefs within your own group is fine but to purposely antagonise others leads to divisiveness and conflict which we see the consequences of globally.
Private matters such as eating choices are best left to the individual and their conscience. I have no conscience problems in this regard as an omnivore.
Yes Ann, like it or not humankind is naturally omnivorous, always has been always will be. You want to avoid meat, your choice, end of story.
Here is an interesting read by the Vegetarian Resource Group.
