Oprah: 'That Better Be Faux!'

Offbeat  (tags: oprah, fur cruelty, faux, oprah shows )

Here's one more reason why I heart Oprah. Yesterday, during her fall fashion style makeover show, a stylist mentioned that a furry vest worn in one woman's "after" look was faux. Oprah replied, "I was a PETA Woman of the Year so I hope that's faux!"

I've slowly been learning more about better ways to feed my family, but I tire of people that clobber others because they still eat meat. To each his own. Not everyone is or wants to be a vegetarian/vegan and your attitude is certainly not one to win minds and hearts with your harshness. Instead of being so filled with venom, why not write to Oprah and share with her the benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle?

Tough subject. I tried going vegetarian a couple times and found out I had the blood type that needs to eat meat. If I recall its a type 'O' ... I got quite ill, resulting in having to go back to eating meat. We are animals, us humans,, what we CAN do is treat the animals that are 'beasts of burdon' with far more dignity and humanity than they presently are. It would make us who require eating meat to feel less torn about the whole situation. I believe there are far more better ways to treat these animals.. as well as I feel we eat far too much meat in the first place. Very little meat is required to suffice to avoid getting ill . One thought I had was perhaps just the blood of the animal may be sufficient, but this made me shudder at how incompitent a 'blood letting' industry would result,, greedy ones would let out too much from each animal which gave me nighmares to ponder what such a facility would look like... Humans 'give blood'.. and it is done painlessly and without fearsome environments... this could be a good idea if we could trust humans to follow through with good sense and respect to the animals.. it could be far better than slaughter houses and how they treat these beautiful beasts.
Its also a good point to bring up that anyone with pets needs to feed them meat, and so brings it all back to needing to slaughter animals,, to add - if it were to be just for pets, the humane'ness of this industry would plummet I fear...
It is a sensitive subject and I hope in the very least we begin to treat the animals with far more respect and gentleness in the near future. They live to die so we can live.. they deserve the UPmost respect for such a grand sacrifice.

oprah, like everyone, is a work in progress. she just started advocating against puppy mills, and she recently touted tal ronnen as the best vegan chef ever. his book "the conscious cook" is available at amazon. she is constantly progressing in a positive direction.

Ya know, whether ya agree with her or not, one can argue that she has done far more good than not. Due to her exposure and stances, she has to wear her personality on her shirt sleeve and that makes her vulnerable to attacks. But overall, I'd pick Oprah on my team anyday.

I don't think Oprah is a bad person at all, I think she's a great human being. She may still be eating meat, but I don't think that makes her a bad person. Maybe if she did her next show on 'Factory Farming" or something like that, she'd really take a look at her lifestyle and change some things in it! I like what Catherine Turley said below, that Oprah, like all of us, is a work in progress. Nobody is perfect, but at least she tries to do the right thing!

I live in India, am an avid Oprah fan but alas, for the past 2 years she has completely vanished off the the various TV channels. Where oh where are you Oprah ? Those were good days when we partook of every episode with you ! Do come back.

No one changes overnight. Oprah does alot of good things. She loves animals. She will eventually stop eating meat. She just has to do it in God's time. Not our time. So quit criticizing her for eating meat. From what I hear she has drastically cut down on her meat consumption. She is on the right path. I do agree that she needs to have a show on factory farming. Those animals are treated so horribly and cruelly. The animals are the ones working there.
