Thanks for posing this, Simone.

I had a damaging (drapes, sofa, speakers, etc.) cat declawed years ago because, like many, I thought just the claws (nails) were removed (and my veterinarian did not advise otherwise). Afterward, when I learned that the procedure is actually a mutilation of the paw bones, I was extremely sorry that I so selfishly allowed the surgery.

More people need to be aware of this!

I am glad to see that the laws will end declawing, but not because of the short lived pain and discomfort it causes the animal. So many cats are abandoned by irresponsible "owners". A declawed cat who is abandoned has a very small chance of survival. Several of my cats were abandoned after being declawed, and if I hadn't found them, at least two would have starved. I would rather see a law that prosecuted owners who abandon their animals.
