Facebook, the popular social media networking website, is filled with groups and fan pages that promote violence against women. Groups like "Let's kill all crazy women" and pages such as "Hitting Women" not only are offensive, but they clearly violate

Facebook is becoming a dangerous place, there are now sites that offer to hack any FB account for free as a lure to get you to purchase software use to hack any email. There is an application bug on the site that opens your address book to any who know how to use the application and remember FB and Care2 are linked.

I know many who use the site that take precautions like frequent password changes and become aware that any information stored there is not safe.

to Bill C - thx 4 the advice - I will probably go change my password and/or just cancel if I can. I signed up because of a friend - but see from the little I go there, that there are so many personal msgs that one doesn't need or want to know - emails are still the best way w/o the whole world knowing your personal business.
I posted something on that site that was policitcal - what flax I got from that one entry. So now just post only animal rights stuff.

Thanks for the post - I signed !!! I wasn't aware until another poster mentioned it, that FB and Care2 are linked?? I have never been a member of FB, don't see the need to join, PLUS I HAVE NEVER TRUSTED THE SITE!!, but have heard many complaints from people I know who are members. Also didn't know about the software apps. that allow people to "hack" into a FB account, or your e-mail address book, or in fact "I guess" your e-mail?? I also don't "Twitter" - DON'T TRUST THAT EITHER!!!

Even though FB and other sites like it show irresponsibility, it is basically up to us as individuals to start taking responsibility for our actions, including making sure our accounts are safe, our passwords are changed regularly to a somewhat "secure" password that can't be "guessed at" by others, ETC.!!!

Thanks Simone for posting this very important story. I will certainly share it with everyone I know!!

Brigette is right--this petition could EASILY gather 100,000 signatures. Even women can sign petitions. We can point and click just like guys can. And guys who actually LIKE women would sign in droves. The fact is, these hate pages are usually started by people who have no success with women or who resent the fact that for many women respect is as necessary a prerequisite to sex as attraction is. Their views are tainted by the increasing difficulty in our society of being able to bully their way to what they want. Too bad they don't learn from the most successful guys of all--those who become FRIENDS with women, who get to KNOW them, who RESPECT and LIKE them, who don't enter into the relationship with expectations and a jaundiced view. We like guys who genuinely like us. Bottom line.

I think the members of those groups should be prosecuted for hate speech.

Facebook makes it clear when you create a group or page that this sort of thing is not tollerated.
It clearly states that creating a group or page like this will get you banned.
It also states in the TOS that one must agree to in order to join the site that
All that needs to be done is report the group/ page(s) in question, they will be deleted and the creator will be banned.
Signing will do nothing- the most that will be done is FB will try and get better moderation for the site , but as it is a free site that is unlikly to happen.
SO what we NEED to do is report any groups that call for discrimination and/or are offensive that we see. THAT is how we tell FB that these things are there, and exactly where they are.

I checked the GTA group. You are absolutely correct Simone.Since I can read Turkish and Greek I nearly jumped off my chair.Such obscenity, profanity and pure smut towards woman should not be tolerated.
Thank's again for the information.

I just DELETED everything on facebook....pictures, political info, messages.....personal info (not that I gave much). Facebook reminds me of High School in that it's a popularity contest. I mean, NO ONE really cares about YOUR life, YOUR kids, YOUR cats, dogs, whatever....they are only interested in THEMSELVES. I had SOOOOOO much valuable information posted, to HELP people, and I never got ONE comment meaning NO ONE cared enought to educate themselves and learn about our world. To me that is very sad. These include my so called *friends* and family members. I am SO through with facebook.

There are sites helping anorexic women to avoid eating. These, like violence against women sites, should not be a free speech issue, any more than shouting "Fire!" in a crowded cinema.

Signed. Can not post to Facebook from my office, though :( I think this request should be extended to any "hate" group, cause there are similar groups that spread hate for race or sexual orientation, for example -that I've heard of-. Social network's own policies warn against this type of content but they don't seem to be doing much to control it.

The name says it all..."FaceBook" it is all about "self" for many people there, not every person, but many...Care2 says it all as well...see the difference? I think we all see the difference. I must say that I didn't know that the two sites were linked.(I am a bit surprised). We would never have articles promoting violence against women here.

There is another hate group that facebook refuses to get rid of...they have KKK things up and Nazi signs, its horrible. He must be a horrible person to keep these groups going!!!

And of course, the anti-nazi and anit-kkk groups would have to be removed as well as they are also hate groups.
