We are disappointed that the UK Government, and European Union member countries as a whole, have not gone into this meeting with a much stronger message against the ivory trade and in favour of elephant protection. Their sheer size and strength have

I guess we will have to someday show our grandchildren pictures of all the extinct species humans killed off. This world is by far becoming worse instead of better.

Greed stilll wins over common sense, it seems, and karma will be interesting...except that we all suffer for it.If good men do nothing then evil wins.

"If all the beasts were gone, man would die from loneliness of spirit, for whatever happens to the beast, happens to the man. All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth, befalls the sons of earth." Chief Seattle

Every life has a purpose. All animals are individuals and they have feelings and thoughts and they suffer the pain and the joy that we do. They are entitled and they deserve an opportunity to live.

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." Mahatma Gandhi

The only way to stop the greedy is to lock them up permanently or kill them. They are killing us all slowly as they devastate the earth and kill off the wildlife for profit. They do not understand or don't care about conservation. Their sick minds can only think of when the last elephant dies how much their ivory will be worth . The real problem is the brain washed police and courts that protect the greedy and prosecute those who defend the planet. If we were to wipe out the greedy and those who protect them - the power hungry police, lawyers and judges - the rest of us would live in peace, harmony and sustainability. Without question !

The only way to stop it is if no one will buy it and those who trade in ivory are consider the pariahs that they are!

This is outrageous. These people are not thinking for the future, only for lining their own pockets.

We always seem to try to ban something at its source even though that doesn't work. We need to punish those that are buying it by making it illegal or somehow lessen the demand by creating similar products that are not made of ivory. Even after the elephants and polar bears and the other creatures are gone, the people in the developed countries are not going to suffer. It will be the ones in the developing countries that had the resources that will suffer. That is always how it is when it comes to extractive resources. We should be looking to increase the livelihoods for the people that kill the animals in the first place. If they have an alternative means of feeding their children and themselves, they will choose something else. If these animals are not somehow managed they will all be gone. Remember besides the hunting, the destruction and pollution of their habitat also decreases the number of all of the world's amazing creatures. We can't forget to address that as well or we will never address the entire issue.

Unfortunately, those of us who care, and who are empathetic and compassionate, are a minority group. Maybe Hallmark can make a day for us so we can at least get a card and flowers for our efforts. Those who are driven by power and greed could call it "Bleeding Heart Day". They would like that.

It is a pathetic situation when people have no sense, sympathy, understanding or caring for species that are different from themselves even though we share the same process of life - being born, living, fighting to survive and dying. As I think about it they probably feel that way towards any people that are different in some way from themselves. A sorry state of things that are difficult to control or change.

Dianne D. - Chief Seattle had more wisdom and foresight than ALL THE WORLD'S POLITICIANS PUT TOGETHER. To rule any country today is all about power and greed.......there is no vision for tomorrow! Well what goes around comes around.....we will all have to pay the piper in the end. IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE REALLY LISTENING??

How about paying people to be stewards of these species instead of exploiting them. Seeing wildlife in the wild is becoming endangered itself. If wolves aren't safe in Alaska in the US, then where?

Oh this is devastating news. How can they vote to literally cause the extinction of these mighty noble beauties ? oh this is just beyond worse - I can't find words to express my heart, anger and broken spirit over such a calamity as this vote. Our great grandchildren may never see the beauty of these wonderful God -created elephants. this is just a really serious crime and needs undoing.ASAP

This is horrible news, when will it stop. The animals are the innocent ones here and the people that line their pockets get richer and get away with it. They should be held responsible for their actions and leave the animals alone to live their life the way God intended.

I agree with Roseann D. We should pay the people who live there to protect their resources. The same would be true for the rainforest. In some instances, the local people now grow sustainable crops and are paid a fair wage and can afford to live there. When big corporations whose only means of making money is to rape and pillage poorer countries it ruins life for all of us. We love our country. The people who are being exploited love their country too. They must have the means to survive. Those of us who support the industries that ruin other countries must make some kind of stand or sacrifice. Find out who is doing what and shop accordingly!
