Austin TX--Heartbreaking Cruelty To Mom Dog, Now On Death Row & Separated From Her Babies--Please Help

Animals  (tags: mother dog, separated from pups, abused, adoptions, needs help, home love )

Simone
- 1344 days ago - groups.google.com
They pulled up with her 5 puppies in the back of their truck, all stuck in a wire kennel... huddled together for warmth. They had the mom choke tied by a red rope to her babies wire kennel... pulled so tight she couldn't breathe.

The heart is never broken enough when hearing these stories of cruelty I would take them all if I could..All my critter friends are someone else's rejects and the love they give to me and my family is priceless! I will move this to those who may have an answer for this mom and her pups..

I wonder sometimes how long my heart is going to last (even with a pacemaker). It is broken almost daily when I learn about the extraordinary cruelty and evil of human beings. More of them than not are literally a blight to the earth and its creatures--like a canceerous bacteria that spreads and eventually destroys the host. Even though we can thank God for the few priceless humans that do good, that's the problem--there are too few of them. I will try to contact my cousin in Texas to see if there's anyoone he knows who could help this poor little mother and her pups.

I have posted and shared this story on both Facebook and Twitter. Hope that someone sees it and takes them all in. Really heartbreaking how awful some people can be. A story like this should never have to happen.

the government does that to women daily, that is separate them from their families, but i never see a story about that here on care2 or anywhere else for that matter, i guess that America truly has gone to the dogs!

here's her main photo from the animal shelter site. it says she's only been there since nov. 2nd, so why would they be killing her so soon?

Knowing dogs as I do I can only think that the mother was so frightened of harm to her babies that she might have over-reacted. But, people who work with animals should be trained to understand them and have compassion. This treatment is inexcusable. I hope someone saves them and helps the mother get over her unnecessary trauma. There are good souls out there. I hope they step forward soon. I wish I could.

I have posted this to FB and twitter and will circulate to my Care2 friends. I open my mail every day with trepidation. This is an example of the mail I dread. My tears well up and my stomach tightens up. Here it is again this churning of emotions . I will do all I can to help. My feelings are nothing compared to what this poor Mother feels for her babies. Of course I will do everything I can do to help her. We all will but why oh why do we do this to man's best friend. I just feel sick at heart.

I posted this info on Facebook and Twitter and a Facebook friend actually called the shelter in Austin and spoke to someone there to find out what was going on. This is the latest information that I received:

I called just now and the reason they took her babies is because they are old enough to wean and mother was too thin and malnourished to keep feeding at their age and weaning begins at 6 weeks of age. These puppies are older than that. All...... puppies are up for adoption now, have had all of their shots and now are in the process of being spayed and neutered, one has already been adopted and 4 are still available and mom is NOT scheduled to be euthanized, nor is she on death row. also Austin Dog Rescue is scheduled to rescue, hopefully, let's stay close to the situation by calling again on Monday, but the shelter was very upset, understandably, as they have been receiving threatening phone calls, which honestly, won't help the situation or Mama Dog♥

This dog is not in trouble - she has many locals waiting to adopt, and I am now on the list. She is NOT schuduled for anything but like her puppies, shots and spaying/neutering. I think the story was overly dramatic, and the people seem very good hearted and willing to do anything to help an animal. They are on Facebook and have a site: getapetnow.com/townlakecenter

This is the latest update that I have received from Jan:

Patty from Austin Pets Alive, just called me and said not to worry at all about Mama as they are taking care of the whole situation. She told me that there are two applications to adopt Mama and if they don't come through then Austin Dog ...Rescue will take her and find her a good home (they screen applicants quite thoroughly) as well as the remaining four puppies who are now apart of the adoption program and will be in foster homes until adopted, they will not be euthanized and are all just fine she assured me and thanked me and everyone here so much for caring about her. Again, here is the link to the rescue center that is taking her http://www.austinpetsalive.org/events/daily-dog-locations/

Thanks Simone for getting this out there, and Marta for sending it to me since I am MIA right now and did ask for nothing to be sent...Don't know what to do, sadly, I just took in my rescue and spent over $300 for her being ill, on a credit card without a job here in California, or I would have to give her up ( would hurt my heart, and this abused girl would not recover from being in a home instead of a pen).

Don't know what to do...Sorry, Simone, not tracking, but WOULD SO LOVE TO HAVE A TON OF ACRES AND get a ton of Dogs/Horses/Cats out of the #!#! they are in...

Thank you!

THANK YOU MATTHEW for the updates!!! I was praying like mad that the rescue story was exaggerated and I wondered about the age of the puppies...(to be honest when I read that the pups were taken away it reminded me of the undercover animal rights activist who got a job at a factory farm; he told the story about how one of the cows gave birth in the slaughter line and they took her baby away-and they pushed her through the line. I SOBBED when I heard that; the momma screaming for her baby and how the uncaring so called humans KILLED her. Because of that I had a knee jerk reaction to THIS story.)

Getting back to momma and her babies...
I am SO relieved; I feel like I can BREATHE.
And I am so grateful these babies are with people who CARE.
Thank GOD.
And Bless EACH and EVERY one of them.

Hi Laura - I wish I could take credit for getting the updates, but it was Janet Geren who called the shelter and got the most up-to-date information on the dogs. Based on what I've heard today, both the mama and her pups are in good hands and there's nothing to be concerned about. If everyone would just spay and neuter their dogs and cats, we wouldn't have to hear horror stories like this in the first place. Everyday across America, thousands of dogs and cats are put to sleep because somebody was being negligent and irresponsible.

Laura H. (874)
Saturday November 6, 2010, 6:24 pm
Thanks to Janet Geren!!

We DO need spay/neuter programs, education, etc.
I would like to see that happen for the human species as well! ;-)

Matthew Cloner (122)
Saturday November 6, 2010, 6:37 pm
Hopefully not the entire human species?! Here is the latest news that I received just this evening:

She was rescued and 3 pups were adopted and the other 2 are awaiting adoption.

Doesn't this fall under cruelty to animals, and are they reported to the authorities?

I'm glad that they were spared and adopted. At least there are those who do care!

simone, contact bestfriends.org or the houstonspca and see if they can help. i sent an e-mail to best friends and they told me the best way to get help is for the animal shelter to contact them. best friends has a grass roots program throughout the country. i tried to use the e-mail address l.smithpl...@rocketmail.com and it wouldn't take it. good luck.

Wow,you all rock...I still have my days where I am overwhelmed by all the compassion and concern...it brings tears to my eyes to know that there is such a possitive example of the human species here on care2...Thank You all for all you have done and are doing for the voiceless....and making me smile amongest all unfortunate work that still needs to be done!! THANK YOU ALL!!

I hope that the people who offered to adopt these doggies, but were not first in line, got offered other dogs and accepted. There are so many animals needing to be rescued, all because of the selfishness of humans. There are not enough kind people to go round!
Please, people, search your hearts and see if you can take in just one more dog or cat!
Thanks Simone. Thanks Matthew and others who worked so hard on this.

It's always good to see people caring on matters like this one. But the reality is cruel. Our beloved companions, these creatures of the blue planet that are companions of the human race for thousand of years are suffering by living near the human beings. They can't live by their own any more and by the same time they are dying by living so close to the human race. The number of cases like this one is countless. I live in Greece, I'm always trying to do my best for these lovely creatures but still, their case number becomes a growing one day after day. And at last we have to admit that we are a minority, no matter how much noise about our case we do.

I came in on this story kind of late; my physical condition prevents me from keeping a daily eye on things. I am so happy to hear of the outcome and see all of the people here who care so much and try to help - all in their own way. God bless you all!

Thank you Simone for posting this. Mathew thank you so much for putting our minds at rest. Please pass on my gratitude to Janet Geren and tell her how much we appreciate what she did.

I guess with alll the horrors we hear on Care2 we tend to react without all the facts. However as time is of the essence in most case's it is understandable.

Thanks Simone for posting & to Matt, Kit for the wonderful updates. I sent star to many, however many I was unable to as I did within this week! Sure wish they would change this ridiculous rule as so many deserves so many more STARS. So pleased to see so many wonderful kind humans, like Susan D. my friend states we need so many more compassionate/caring humans for these innocent animals. So very vital that spay/neuter your animals as this cruelty will never stop! Many are unable to afford it, but it is very worth it as the voiceless in the end pay the ultimate price with their lives. These spay/neuter programs should be backed by our government as lives are priceless! So wonderful that mama is being adopted & the pups. Praying that the two remaining find a loving forever home.
