ACTION ALERT: To Save Thousands of Canadian Wolves From Needless Slaughter ! PLEASE SIGN !

They want to kill 6,000 wolves to boost the caribou herds numbers by 240 every five years in the oilsands area. There is scientific evidence proving that a large responsibility of the declining numbers is the amount of industrialisation in the area.

Of course it is the wolves fault, you can't blame industry for pollution or impinging on to the caribou's range and affecting their food. And, let's be faitr, wolves do not kill the weakest and oldest caribou to ensure the herd's health & wellbeing - or did I get this the wrong way round?

Signed.

The decrease in caribou runs much deeper; the problem lies in global warming.

Warmer conditions daw the snow = water thus when it freezes turns into (thicker than usual) ice. In (regular, old) winter conditions animals were able to dig past the snow to access plant material to feed; however, they cannot dig through thick ice thus many starve to death.

Killing the wolves is nothing less than putting the wagon before the horse: plain stupid!
Such decision making individuals should be fired on the spot and not fed for the rest of their useless life from tax payer’s money!

or the people!!!

Dominion means to care for and protect, not to suck the blood from the weaker ones.

Well, it certainly is sad to see that Canada is just as stupid and short-sighted as America. It's all about what the hunters want; screw the fact that wolves have just as much right to exist on earth as us stupid humans do. People make me sick.

Killing the wolves will allow the caribou to overpopulate and starve themselves out over the winter, plus will leave filthy vermin like rats around that threaten both humans and caribou with their illnesses. Leave teh wolves intact and abandon the tar/oil sands in favour of drilling for heat instead of oil!

Yvonne, we have this negative attitude against wolves because we see them as competition. Blood-thirsty "hunters" and ranchers want to eliminate wolves, regardless of the short-sighted stupidity involved in pulling predators out of a food chain.

Sarah Palin's a good example of someone who panders to them.

Wolves help keep caribou populations healthy; they kill the weakest and sickest.Over industry and overpopulation are the root cause. Should this proceed, allow ONLY First Nations people to hunt;not everyone with a gun!

I am sorry to hear that the numbers of the caribou are in decline and hope the species will be protected. However, I disbelieve that wolves alone are to blame for the endangerment of the caribou: Wolves would never cause numbers of their prey to decline below the sustainable level, as they only check overpopulation -- such is the natural balance until some people start meddling in it. A lack of prey is never good news to the predator. Wolves should not be scapegoated, but the real causes should be addressed instead after all actual threats to the caribou have been carefully scrutinized and considered. The proposed action evidently concerns the easiest and cheapest option, and not the right one. I cannot see how a massive killing (not “culling“, which is a FALSE euphemism), of other species--wolves--, which would potentially endanger them either, could ever represent a good solution -- it will more likely make the matter worse. The caribou should be protected but via non-violent measures preferentially (e.g. the protection of habitat, a ban on hunting, etc.), thus sparing wolves.
