Several states such as California, Hawaii, and Oregon have made all ties to shark finning illegal. This includes not only the act itself, but also the importation of any products with ties to shark finning.

Glad to sign. There's real momentum behind this now so we must all push as hard as we can to bring about change. It's do-able now. If the momentum is lost then there's a danger the opportunity will pass.

too bad sharks get such a bad reputation, that not many care if they are endangered.

I got a reply from the NYC department of agricultural conservation and they dodged the issue by showing me the rules of fishing for costal sharks around NY without addressing the allowed importation of fins that permits shark fins to be sold at the 55 or so restaurants here still. Hope this can be used for a more direct petition they can't avoid .Thanks Simone!

Thank you for your interest in shark conservation. New York State has laws and regulations that ban the practice known as finning and prevent waste in shark fisheries. For more information, see Section 13-0338 of Environmental Conservation law (http://public.leginfo.state.ny.us/menugetf.cgi?COMMONQUERY=LAWS) and Part 40.7 of our regulations (
