Afligido, dying and trapped, waiting for the afflicted person in charge of cutting the spine at the neck. But this person did not appear so they tried to kill him, hitting him in the head with various objects.

Last year, the bull—named Afligido, which means “sorrowful” in Spanish—eventually died after being stabbed in the head with a screwdriver.

Tradition is NO excuse for cruelty.

Please write to the regional Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the mayor of Tordesillas, and the Tordesillas Tourism Office and urge officials to end to this cruel and sadistic “celebration” permanently!

Please send polite comments to:

The Honorable Alicia García Rodríguez
Counselor
Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Castile and León

Tordesillas Mayor Maria Milagros Zarzuelo Capellan and the Tordesillas Tourism Office

Noted, signed petitions and sent two out of the three e-mails. I wasn't able to send the one to the president since it asked an "DNI" or Passport number. The system wouldn't accept the e-mail without these numbers.
Have a good one, Simone!

Mans capacity for extreme cruelty no longer surprises me.How any sane person can indulge themselves in this way is beyond me.I certainly would not wish to visit a country which behaves in this depraved manner.

It's time for people to find ways to feel good about themselves that don't involve inflicting pain and suffering on others.
Thanks Simone.

To The Honorable Alicia García Rodríguez,

Please stop the cruel tradition of murdering bulls while the world is watching.
We have been pleading now for many years to break this barbaric tradition and
walk into the year 2012 with a new attitude about animal cruelty.

Thank you for your kind attention.

Went to this site and signed all petitions as well as sent letters to those recommended on the Occupy for Animals website as well as those above posted by Simone! To think that such horrific cruelty to these animals is still going on in the 21st Century in Spain! Spain can never be considered civilized when they still allow such heinous animal cruelty at their festivals. They act like savages and monsters and debase themselves to the lowest level as they show absolutely no compassion and not even the slightest humanity! Definitely, it is the poor bulls which show a greater level of morality then these depraved men who show they have no conscience or even a soul!

Sent the following letter to these Spanish officials. The addresses for these Spanish officials came from the petition to stop El Toro de la Vega on change. org.

These are justicianimal@justicianimal.org, ayto.tordesillas@dip-valladolid.es, presidencia@dip-valladolid.es, prensa@dip-valladolid.es, presidente.responde@jcyl.es, turismo@tordesillas.net, informacion012@jcyl.es, oficinadeturismodevalladolid@jcyl.es, valladolid@canal4cyl.com

I sent the following letter to these officials.

Subject: Please Ban El Toro de la Vega for it is Horrific Cruelty

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am contacting you regarding the sickening spectacle of El Toro de la Vega during which a bull is tortured and killed for the sake of entertainment and in the name of tradition.

During this event, the bull suffers severe stress from being the subject of harassment and is forced to endure excruciating pain from the beatings and multiple stab wounds prior to death. The killing of this poor animal is torturous and sadistic. No tradition can justify such monstrous cruelty and unspeakable violence against a defenseless sentient being. Animal welfare is more important than an archaic tradition that is neither necessary nor humane - such barbaric practices have no place in a modern society.

Spain has an incredibly rich history and culture that Spaniards should be proud of, yet it is such cruel events that degrade the image of Spanish society and tarnish its international reputation. Animal cruelty should not be a part of the Spanish heritage. This grotesque spectacle has already drawn international protests and received worldwide condemnation along with notable tourism boycotts.

There are plenty of alternative and entertaining events where no animal should be harmed that could replace this bloody ritual in Tordesillas. Please stop this savage cruelty and proclaim an immediate ban on El Toro de la Vega !

Sincerely,

Julia Richards

These men have some sadistic streak in them, pure and simple. Inflicting pain (and death) on something defenceless. Plus some pathetic male violent agression they're acting out on some symbol of what they consider 'threatening' or bigger than them, to compensate for their frustration and desperation and failure to accomplish anything good in their lives. Animals frequently pay the price for this.
If I was woman I wouldn't let any of these men touch me. I'd tell them you're not only not a man, you're a patheitc excuse for a human being.
