By the time someone finally called animal control, one of the two dogs chained in Donnell Cockhern's Atlanta backyard was already dead -- his skeletal body still tethered among trash. The other dog, a cheerful shepherd/collie mix, weighed about half

He let one of his dogs starve to death and the other was rescued close to death. Neighbors were afraid to call the police, because Cockhern is the police. He got off easy with a very light sentence. He should lose his job. He's not the kind of person that belongs in law enforcement.

What excuse could someone come up with to even begin to explain why these dogs weren't fed? There was a teen aged son who was present as well as the Sherriff. I can't even begin to understand the mind of people like that.People should need to pass a competency test before they own animals in my estimation.

how could the judge just fine him $1000 and not be able to have another animal for 6 months...that is not going to stop him from doing this again...People like him should not be allowed to ever own another animal and he should not be allowed to be a sheriff or wear a badge of any kind...what a poor excuse for a human being he is...thanks for posting Simone..noted

this guy and his son should never be allowed to own another animal, be it dog, cat, bird, fish whatever.. they should have gotten more than a 1000 dollar fine, and not being able to own an animal for six months, thats ridiculous, absolutely horrendous.. is there no justice in this world!

The guy should be put to sleep. I'd hold the syringe.

Please check this great website: .

They have a national campaign against chaining dogs up. Just chaining them up is bad enough, which is
why Calif. now has a law that dogs can't be chained up for more than 3 hrs. a day.
Why do people even have dogs, if they don't want to spend time with them & love them?
