The list of countries to which Australia exports live animals reads like a 'who's who' of nations that have no regard for animal welfare. However, it seems the list was missing one - so now the Howard Government has added Libya to the list!

Simone, I admire the grace of your postings and feel your concern for the animals. Although I was raised in a Muslim country, I refuse to sacrifice animals, I am ashamed of the way they are treated, and have no mercy for anyone who live off animals-that is gains money with their suffering. But I would like to make one thing clear. Everyone thinks that it is better if they are unconcouis and they are electrolized or whatever you want to call it, the method in Islam is, the jugular vein is cut, and the animal dies instantly, no bullshit that it bleeds to death. It is no worse than hunting, fishing, factory farming, or putting them to sleep in no-kill shelters. I hate it, I will never do it myself, but it is not what you think. The way they are treated on the way and what Australia gains from it, is another matter, but in Islam, they are respected and die immediately. If that is or can be a consolation!
