I remember discussing immigration reform with members of La Raza in the early 1970s. I would have never dreamed that, forty years later, the issue remains unresolved. After bending over backwards to reach a compromise with Republicans far too much for far too long, Barack Obama has taken a limited but positive step, albeit a temporary one, to move in the right direction towards reform.

I read that only a small percentage of eligible Latino voters actually vote, so THAT might be their biggest obstacle! If Every registered Democrat Voted every election, there would be NO RepubliCONs in office!

Some one had to stop the breaking up of families. I doubt it'll come close to swinging the election. There will be triple the rigged voting machines.

How unreasonable of President Obama to finally acknowledge those immigrants that have been here most if not all of their lives. To speak to the fact the our immigration policies are old and dysfunctional, that we must address the real facts of this issue and not keep feeding from the well of bigotry and intolerance.

I applaud his efforts to address this issue. We have watched this develop over the years and those with a conscience know that this is wrong, intolerable and completely un American. How many of us would be here under the current policy of arrest, detain and ship out? Many of us had grandparents that would have been shipped off to the country of origin under the existing policy. Let us update our immigration policy to reflect the realities that are here. That does not encourage illegal immigration but does acknowledge the need for those who have been here since children and some since they were babies, to have a path to legal citizenship.

Change never comes about until someone finds a way to either make a financial profit from it or gain in some other way,as cynical as that sounds it's very true.

President Obama is trying to keep momentum going in a positive way for the benefit of justice, the promotion of ethical behavior yet the RW is shouting "he's taking over the government!" Such hystrionics. I applaud the President's bravery in continuing to pushback on this fringe group of right wing zealots who have taken over Congress and ground lawmaking to a complete halt.

Muchas gracias, Presidente Obama. La comunidad de gente que cree en los derechos humanitarios continua de luchar por la democracia y la justicia para todos.

"When GW Bush was President, no reporter ever acted so disrespectfully toward him. Unless the Daily Caller apologizes publicly and severely disciplines Munro, their access to the Obama administration should be revoked." --- This Neil Munro is not a reporter. He is nothing more than a disrespectful, racist Republican/Teabagger toadie who should lose his job (but I know he won't) and he and the Daily Caller should both lose their press credentials.

Battle Ax Brewer from Brewerstan referred to Mr Obama's actions as "pandering to a certain population ... and very, very political" which she is very familiar with as she panders to the Klu Klux Kristians (fanatical right wing evangelical supply-side pseudo Christians) --- talk about 'projection'!

Karl Rove --- "a political and cynical act" --- Very funny since Saint Ronny, the jellybean Republican president, espoused the same policy! Must say when that came on, I actually laughed out loud!

I must agree with Michael Eric Dyson and Joe Williams when they referred to these disrespectful acts over the past 3.5 years as being racially motivated. There is no other way to describe it as no other president has received this level of public heckling and disrespect, and Mr Obama is the first African American president.

Personally, I think that this is great, and while a law might be preferable as Rmoney indicated, there is no chance that this recalcitrant Congress would pass such.

Vote Democrat 2012!!!!! Vote Obama/Biden 2012!!!!!

No, I don't find everything President Obama does to be in agreement with my principles. BUT....he acts in accordance with HIS principles and they're obviously carefully thought-out and designed to do the most good.

I admire his willingness to think things through and CHANGE when it seems correct to him. I admire his willingness to stand up against a judgmental block of Republicans who seek to ridicule and scoff. And I admire his willingness to stand up and ignore the downright FRIVOLOUS criticisms Republicans seem forced to find and send his way!

Truly, I'm ashamed of the quality of insults and low-level hatreds of the obviously politically-motivated nonsense coming from the GOP these days.

I wish he would have just smashed the republicans apart and done the right thing from the start, but, being a gentleman and scholar, and a man who is simply good, he took the high road. The sociopaths didn't appreciate the effort at fairness and mocked him for it, and continue to do so. How the American people view this should be a no-brainer, if only too many were not so lost in misplaced rage. Its extremely frustrating to watch such an obvious pack of liars working their evil agenda so blatantly out in the open and keep going with it.

But the good guys are going to win. The truth must win.

I believe this was a good move but using this issue as such an obvious ploitical ploy is disgusting and hispanics are smart enough to realize that although Obama must think otherwise.

to change the world all one must do is to change ones own mind
protect life, prosecute those that seek to destroy our shared home and our fellow beings
life has value beyond measure

Si, Si, Si!!!!!

I am sickened by all the White European lineage persons (of which I am one) who live so scared they can't realize that almost everyone here is an immigrant.....and I want to know how many can prove their relatives came legally......

Thanks all.

Kudos to Susan. Me gusta lo que piensas.

Although It does appear political, it is also the next rational step in response to Republican's recent blockage of the Dream Act.

Bravo Obama, This is the right thing to do since the republicans will not do anything about it unless it helps the rich, As for the rudeness that President Obama has done to him since he has been in office truly makes me sick, I was not a fan of Bush but he was the president then and he deserved the American people respect, The same should apply to President Obama, I have never seen such hate and racism since he has been president, It is downright shameful.
