There have been many accusations of treason arising from both sides of the aisle, but its hard to find a more disloyal bunch that the vulture capitalists that rule the Republican Party. This is because they want to enjoy all the benefits of a free society without bearing any of the cost, and to that end, they seem happy to enslave the rest of us.

Ah I wish the Main Stream Members of the Republican Party would fight for their party, but you may have to wait for a white man in the white-house before we see that!

I think that both the comments above are 'right on'. They've certainly sum'd up my thoughts on this to a "T" :-) .

VERY well said!

Our job is to point this out every chance we get!

"So what would I call it? I would call it sedition, which is similar, but lacks the requirement of war, and I would call it Republican."

Absolutely agree, Tom. Though I do believe it is the intent of the republican party and the 1% to destroy America as we knew it, it does not mount to the level of treason. Sedition, yes. The only good news here is that they are a dwindling rapidly segment of our population and soon it will not matter what they think, they won't be able to muster enough votes to be other than "back benchers" in any place other than a few isolated pockets of conservative fools. They are going to lose Texas and Arizona FIRST, hah, that just makes me smile to no end. Two of the ugliest and most racist states in the union are going to be less than half white very soon. We'll see what happens there then - I just know I don't want those fools emigrating to Minnesota, unless they come without winter clothing.

What my peeps said! It is not treason....yet. If the Baggers have their way though.......they might start the 2nd Civil War....then, it's treason. Sedition, definately....and why are they not being charged with it? Oh, wait, rich white old farts......nevermind.

You are right TC sedition it is and utterly criminal.

Sedition and treachery work for me!

SERIOUSLY: READ "CAPITALISM HITS THE FAN, " by Richard Wolff. He talks directly to this issue; talks about how the right wing has operated to roll back any progressive laws and the like that would keep the spiritual descendants of those wealthy who refused to help FDR fund the New Deal, from essentially taking over.
He posits that we need a new social arrangement, "post Capitalism;" that Capitalism runs in bust and boom cycles because it is inherently unstable, due to the class structure it implies.
And more.

It is absolutely treason. TC, I have been saying this has been happening to our country since back in 2011 when I marched in DC with Occupy. The first goal in making this happen was gaining control over the Supreme Court, which they accomplished. And then that Supreme Court made it totally legal for huge corporations to pour money into political campaigns. If that is not a corporate take over of the government which is supposed to be of by and for THE PEOPLE, I don't know what is. And only the Supreme Court can actually find anyone guilty of treason ... according to an explanation of Articles of The Constitution ... "by defining treason in the U.S. Constitution and placing it in Article III "the founders intended the power to be checked by the judiciary"" So ... it is TOTALLY obvious that these people are committing treason against the people of the United States of America. We need two people to come forward and testify that this is their plan. Done. We get our country back. Why do you think they are right now making such a big show to us about "whistleblowers"? They are saying to anyone who is even thinking about coming clean, "This is what happens if you come forth about what is happening within "your" government." I just wish other countries would start realizing that our government has been hijacked. I wonder if they will come arrest me for saying these words? Seems our freedom of speech went out the door when freedom of money as speech came in.

Those who believe that the republican extreme is dying out must wake up. The ongoing carefully nurtured hate agenda is alive and well. It is roosting in the South. Children are taught to fear/hate/destroy anything that does not fit into the biscuit mode. Bible, guns, sheeple mentality is all that is acceptable. Watch what is happening in NC and prepare to deal with this on your home turf.! Sedition and secession walk hand in hand.

I doubt that these fanatics can be stopped without revolution - hopefully not as bloody as the first - but it really appears to be inevitable!

I think it comes down to the definition of war. To MY mind it IS Treason, because it IS War! RepubliCONs are killing us, but off camera & with a silencer. Their War against the elderly, disabled, immigrants, all people of color, education, and Women in general, but especially the poor (which they create more of every day) IS killing, maiming, and destroying America from within. It's just the prelude to the UnCivil War that they are chomping at the bit for! Controlling & greedy is the RepubliCON platform and the Basis of all the "undeclared wars" that America has fought since WWII!!!!!

Yes it's treason against those who don't have the money to voice their opinions. Any form of government/ media control by any individuals or small group is not going to benefit the majority. The elected governments often don't manage to please the majority but at least they can be voted out and new people voted in...

Please, everyone, read laura r's comment a couple more times, for she is, alas, right on. Notice she doesn't say "taught to fear/hate/destroy anyone who is not like them," but taught to fear/hate/destroy anything that doesn't fit into the biscuit mode." Whites becoming a minority in red (or any) states is not going to help, or why are Ted Cruz and Allan West partying with white supremacists at "Americans for Prosperity"? It's not at all hard to teach kids to see themselves as ugly because only lily white is beautiful, or worthless because only lily white is worthy.

Treachery, treason, sedition; whatever we call it, it's destroying our country and the government seems to be either for it or have no idea what to do to stop it. Many, many interesting comments. Thanks for the article, Tom.

They are definitely proud. THEY put Obama in office. That was the ONLY way they could make their plan work. Because of his lack of experience and his color, they KNEW they could get enough people to side with them. Does anyone think they could have gotten away with this if The Clintons had been in the White House??? This was a planned takeover of our country. They are working now on getting rid of Social Security and they are trying to lower Veterans benefits. If they had their way, there would be NO veteran's benefits. They've already taken away so much from the people of this country, much of which other people before us actually fought and died for. It is so sad. It is also a testament to the fact that when people fail to participate in their democracy, fail to really think for themselves, they will lose their democracy.

Whatever label is correct, the damage is done and it's going to take a great deal of effort to reverse.
Last night on Real Time with Bill Maher, someone stated that the Executive branch is out of control...due to an extreme lack of congressional oversight. Bush started the ball rolling with the Patriot Act, and then the vote to invade Iraq based totally on lies. Obama has a "kill list" that is used for drone killings. The checks-and-balances are severely lacking. That was never the intent of the Constitution.

Yvonne White (232)
Saturday July 13, 2013, 7:19 pm
Right on Lois! But all 3 branchs of government have derailed & no longer reflect the people, only special interests. The Constitution has been cherry-picked by Monsanto (which now owns the copy right!;) George Orwell meant 1984 as a warning, not a primer for brain-washing & virtual slavery of the masses. Yet here we are...damned to Know right from wrong - yet dependent on government to "get the memo".

Yvonne White (232)
Saturday July 13, 2013, 7:22 pm
I was just thinking (yeah, that can't be good) - what if we ALL sent each other emails saying "The government has gone too far." ??? Do you think we'd ALL get arrested? Or just women? Or just "certain" people in certain states?

Well whatever this country is suppose to be.. It isn't.. NDAA was signed by 98% of all of congress. The only reason we know that it happened or the vote was taken cause Pres. Obama let the cat out of the bag and then He signed it. Whatever they really talk about behind close doors as they show us their divided face all I remember is the and suddenly NDAA and now this , another whistleblower about what is really going on..I guess open season on whistle blowers and everyone will believe what they want.

Being a human.. Abugrave was a tragedy. What does that matter? Until these mindsets change.. I will always support a woman's right to choose cause half of humanity is just lunatic.
I am entertaining that the sanity of our government just never existed. I feel sorry for whistleblowers.. does it pay? Most people go along to get along cause they feel it is not worth the sacrifice and some people think beyond that and refuse to compromise their values. And because the powers that be can do whatever they want when they want and we don't have a leg to stand on cause the cards are in their favor and they can wield them/cards in their favor. So here we are in a growing police state with all the bells and whistles.
Many have been under this form of government before and it is in the making again. So Bush still runs our government with the continued practices and all the pro bush people are for all of this.
Welcome to idiot world. BTW.. did I say I still support a woman's right to choose? It is not safe to be born in this world.

I agree it is sedition, but then I learned the difference between sedition and treason from you over a year ago.

Poppinjays like Adam Kokesh have all but declared war on the US government, inciting others to use violence to take down the government. However the Congress has not declared war and won't since Kokesh etc is one of their own. If he did declare war on the US, it would be a civil war, an internal war similar to war of secession that we know as the Civil War or the war between the states. With the rabidness of the white nationalists, Tea Party etc, a civil war is more likely what would be seen, but I sure hope this rabidness does not go that far. Such a war would be catastrophic for the entire country, it's economy and its reputation amongst the rest of the world's nations.

PS Teabaggers are not welcome to colonise Canada.

@ Mitchell --- Damn buddy, will you quit recommending good books! Actually I already have Wolff's "Capitalism Hits the Fan" and "Democracy for the Few" on order. Should have it next week. I'm trying read Naomi Wolf's "Shock Doctrine" along with some books on Canadian politics.

Thanks everyone, and Kudos to Laura.

Here's the thing. One can define anything however they wish, and I certainly would not disagree that their behavior is no different than treason on a practical level. However, since we are defining a crime, the operative definition has to be a legal definition. We on the left don't make up the standards aw we go along. That's what Republicans do, and we can't sink to their level. Therefore, when it comes to the law, we must be guided by the Constitution.

Let's reserve the Treason term for true Treason cases We have an example with the narcisitic young fellow hiding in a Moscow airport currently. I believe that politicians of either party who are either super liberal or super conservative are guilty of something and perhaps sedition is the best word but egomania and lack of common sense or forgetting that they are employed by the electors are equal "crimes". the ballot box is the only solution.

This system of governance is moribund. This form of governance will have to be revamped starting from the local level with a truly nonpartisan system, with no political parties, with everyone eligible for office, the person who gets the most votes wins. Then, maybe people who really care about their societies and not special interested will be in positions of influence..
