Wow Tom Cat. Thank you for the neat picture of republican Jesus. I like the deacons also. There are plenty of Christians who have gay friends and it's not a problem. The tea baggers just yell the loudest. Then their kids move away and come out of the closet!

Many congratulations to you TomCat for 100 days resisting nicotine! That Christian family are wonderful, aren't they!

Obsessing about who is doing what with their own bodies, who might love who is about the only thing republicans have to offer any more. This is a distraction for their followers. Don't address the real issues, let us pretend that all is well in the land of milk and honey and if only we can rid ourselves of the plague of LGBTQ, women ever having an abortion, of course those leaches who suckle from the bounty of SNAP, and all will be well. Just do that and suddenly, instantly the US will once again be near perfection.

SNAP is used because it is darn good at preventing fraud, and the republicans in Congress know that. If you must beat on someone, always go for the powerless. They do not hold the keys to reelection, they do not have a lobby, they are the millions of nameless, faceless hungry and poor in America and always the easiest target.

Don't even consider attacking and investigating the many wealthy that dodge taxation, the many who suckle from the government teat in the form of tax loopholes, and governments subsidies. Distract people from looking at those who are costing this country her life blood by out sourcing, not working to regenerate the economy by hiring here at home. Nope lets not look at the real problems, those aching for a solution, turn instead to the social issues that just might keep the twits so focused they will never think to look behind the curtain.

If a gay couple so harms a straight couple, that couple is severely in need of counseling or a divorce. This pesky and yet nasty need to attempt to force the entire country to follow the tune of one piper is a direct assault on freedom and the right to pursue happiness.

Congratulations on Day 100.!!!! So good for you too, to not inhale the smoke from smokers. I think the (teeny-tiny) craving is always there, it's been 15 years of not smoking for me. Upworthy video is great this morning, no bias or discrimination, just as the Lord wants it, Loved it.!! I am currently praying in your church as the Houston Texans get to play the Baltimore Ravens at noon. Hope you have a good day, Tom, take care.

Hey TomCat, keep on trucking! Don't let those urges get you sucking...on that death stick!
Your body is already certainly healing from whatever time you spent smoking.

As far as "Who would Jesus starve: I think Jesus might rather be tempted to take Pat Robertson and sue him for misrepresentation, defamation of character,
I think Robertson needs to be put into a nice, cushy padded cell that has a full wall blank movie screen, so he can spend the rest of his life projecting his delusional misery for his very own pleasure, while not twisting anyone else's mind...or taking their money.
Kudos to that family for going public with their humanitarian view of Christianity.

I loved that clip. Upworthy is a most worthy place. I don't subscribe to their site but have friends who do and who send me amazing little videos from there all the time. This one is one of my favorites. I never stop being amused by Christians who seem to think Christ was a nice young white man or so the pictures in our churches would have you believe. It wasn't until I learned to think for myself, around 7 or so (grew up Lutheran with a mother and grandmother who were Sunday School teachers in small country church my mother's family built - they were loggers when they arrived from Sweden) that I realized Jesus was a Jew and that the pictures of him couldn't be true, so I began asking questions, and ended up forbidden from asking questions during classes. Supply side Jesus is a joke and so are the republicans who invented him. They know nothing of what he would have to say of their current status. And it wouldn't be complimentary, I'd love to see him overturning the money lenders tables in NY for instance. Great cartoon, TomCat!

The ways things are, I'm surprised we're not all drinking and drugging and smoking our way to the cemetery...so hang in there, Tom, and if a cheat now and then helps the rest of time, so be it... you're human. Unlike those Repugs who may have a few of the same genes but are obviously gmo-tainted already and fed a special fertilizer made specifically by Monsanto. Maybe like GMO corn which is registered under "pesticide" now, we should rename the Repugs as well....

I think because today many Jews do look like WASPs, people tend to forget that this was only made possible by the diaspora and then by improvements in transportation. (In Harry Kemelman's books there is a running joke that a Rabbi whose wife is blonde can write his own ticket at any synagogue in the country.) In the first century CE, there was no diaspora, and there were no blonde jews.

As far as art is concerned, I have a kind of soft spot for Nathan Green, who shows Jesus with incipient male pattern baldness, which is generally considered to be passed on exclusively through the mother. Otherwise, his Jesus is too gentile, but at least he tends to be inclusive. http://www.nathangreene.com/prod_detail_list/48 (example)

I'm just waiting for Sarah Palin to pipe up with a "Let them eat cake!" comment... I'm guessing the RepubliCONs are really pissed at the new Pope telling people that they should quit worrying about gays & abortion & oh yeah, the love of Money is still the root of all evil!:) You just can't trust Catholics to uphold Christian values..right?;) LOL!

Thanks for the post, TomCat. As for the cravings; I quit decades ago after 10 years of at least one pack a day. The first month was easiest, as I easily remembered how sick I had been and was making myself. The next eleven months were the hardest months of my life, but I stuck to it. Definitely worth it; hang in there. You'll be much happier in the long run.

Puzzle — 3:44 Caught in the beauty!

Upworthy — It is so nice to be reminded that there really are true Christians in the so called US Bible belt. Did you see the excitement, joy and pride in that youngster's face as he showed a picture of his godfather? Such a wonderful change from the hate filled rants of the right wing evangelical pseudo Christians.

The New Yorker — AB sure does know how to show how out of touch with reality McCain is! McCain should be a "relics destined for the dustbin of history.”

NY Times — If McTurtle is so concerned about the jobs and people of Kentucky, then why isn't he leading the charge to develop clean energy in Kentucky? Transition those jobs!

"…will be required to limit their emissions, likely by installing technology called “carbon capture and sequestration,” which scrubs carbon dioxide from their emissions before they reach the plant smokestacks. …"

McTurtle should know lots about sequestration! He's all for sequestration elsewhere and doesn't give a damn about the jobs lost there! What a putz!

Cartoon — Yup! That must be the Republicanus/Teabagger supply-side Jesus. You'd never find a blond haired Aramaic child. This guy cleared the temple of the sick, the hungry, the poor, the children etc, not the money changers.

So nice to see Christians that are not the 'cafeteria' kind the Repug/ Tea Bagged are. You know the pick and choose type that ignore context and special order when they can not actually find what they want. Interesting that when the Repugs cleaved SNAP from the Farm bill that they cut the same Dollar amount from SNAP that they added in pork for the Millionare/Corporate 'farmers' in the Farm Bill that many in the Repug House Majority personally benefit from.

Congrats on the 100 days.....keep going I've got 25 years and the best thing I did for myself. I use to treat myself weekly to the money I would of spent had I bought cigarettes, was a nice way to keep going in the beginning. I suggest buying some state of the art speakers and pointing them towards a guitar player. Or buy yourself a new guitar and some great speakers and turn it up loud while YOU practice.

The Christian Taliban eventually will self emplode, extremist usually start to wear on those who don't want to be that extreme. They also forget that there are a lot of POOR Republicans that really do like to eat so we'll see how much people want to continue to sacrifice to follow the Party line of extremism. As the saying goes give them enough rope.........let us hope they hang themselves soon.

Hey, Cruz went after their little darling the military. Fine with me, let us stop making bombs, tanks, so on and so forth, turn those swords into plows, Lord only knows the people will need those plows if they can't get Food Stamps. Can't wait to start digging up backyards, parks and the commons to be able to feed the homeless and the hungry.

The new America, a tent on every corner and a garden in every park. Don't worry about those cost effective cars we'll be on bicycles and donkey carts real soon. Oh, forget the donkeys, they might be made into a stew for those who can't get Food Stamps.

Well welcome to the Republicans and other Extremists Vision of America. No jobs, no homes, no food. Just Frack away boys, poison the waters, and pollute the air. Yes, indeed what a Vision these Ayn Rand types hope to see and are working quickly to bring it forth.

Stand up People or Die........it has come down to it.
