Not long ago, the military forces of Vladimir Putin, aka GOP Pootie, attacked a Greenpeace ship on the high seas, imprisoned its crew, and is holding them to face trumped up charges in a Russian court. One would think that all Americans would be furious over such violation of human rights, but not so. Putin loves guns and hates gays, so Republicans love their GOP Pootie so much, that they are even helping him promote his oppression of LGBT people. Here’s some Republican praise for him.

Republican Russia! Who would have thought that? The place must have caught conservatism from Reagan.

Love the 'toon, Cat Man….so appropriate for the Rethug/Fascist/Fundy/Bagger Logo.

Ol' Vlad is not a Rethuglicant….He is is fascist…that is why they (GOPukes) just love them some Putie-Tang. Always remember, Vlad is (ex–yeah, riiiiiiiiiiiight, ex my hind-end) KGB and, therefore, will always be hardline on 'traditional' Russian 'values'….you know, like say….suppression, torture, 'disappearing' dissidents, poisoning those the state finds disagreeable, etc, etc, so on and so forth. The usual everyday fare in the USSR…er…uh….Russia.

The only thing changed from the old regime to the new is not the Totalitarianism but the branding of such….Communism and Fascism are one in the same when seen from the State's view. Business (corruption) plus the State (more corruption) combined and controlled by the 'corporate'/Polit Bureau is one in the same thing…the people loose. I know I am over simplifying the isms but just trying to show how nothing has changed in Russia, only the players/presentation and Putie-Tang is old school KGB and has never, and will never, change.

Just my lil ol' 2/100ths on this Bagger drivel.

Don't get me started on Putin. TomCat We Dutch have our own battles pitched with him, but I won't bore you with the details. At least all political fractions here are in opposition of Putin and his regime, as far as I know, and we don't have members of parliament or government speaking up for him, not even the most Christian fractions on the right.

It is utterly disgusting that Mr. Brown went to the Duma to help the draft laws against gays, just as disgusting as the guy that helped out in Uganda to make being gay a capital crime. Your anti-gay arch-conservative Christian right is become one of your worse export products, America. Keep them in check, please.

“Who is it?” Fischer asked. “Which president is the lion of Christianity, the defender of Christian values, the president that’s calling his nation back to embracing its identity as a nation founded on Christian values? Those, ladies and gentlemen, are quotes from Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia.”

This from the party that hated the Bolsheviks more than any other. Putin is a wannabe Stalin. And has his "democracy" rigged so that he may stay in office until death. That our republicans admire him is indeed surprising but then again not, because they are cut from the same cloth of hatred and repression. Once more the republican party has let its religious bigotry out of the closet. That's good because people need to see them for the bigots they are, trying above all else to impose their view of religion on all of us. Their "us" does not include minorities, women, seniors or immigrants. Who compromise the majority of the voting public. That's good too. Because come 2014 and 2016, THIS quote is going to be on placards and bulletin boards across the country. It is easy to run against hatred and bigotry and these fools are the most inept politicians our country has ever seen. They find a new way to defeat themselves every single day, a new way to highlight their hatred and bigotry and keep the focus on their war on women, minorities, seniors and immigrants. Just keep it up is all I ask. That assures Democrats of retaining the White House, the Senate and taking back the House in my opinion. They're already at 28% approval, can they sink any lower? Oh, hell yeah, embrace Putin whose main export is weaponry and hatred. That will endear them to the American public. And they'll drop to 20% sooner than they think. The rest of the world sees Putin for the horror he is, but not our republicans, nor their silly "think less tanks". They are so blinded by their ideology that they can't see the light headed toward them is the train of the future where bigotry and hatred will be so last century. This group of clowns will never get out of that century. Which is also good. Because the majority of us already are.

Oh, and actually? That is EXACTLY how the Russian Olympics should start as an abject failure. That torch symbolizes brotherhood, sisterhood and that it went OUT so often, well, if Pat Robertson were an honest man, yes I know huge stretch, he would be saying (and 40 years ago SURELY would be) that is God saying the Olympics do not belong in a totalitarian nation. I agree, they don't. I hope everything that can go wrong will. I hope this ends up being the biggest embarrassment the Russian Empire has ever had. Because these Olympics should have been cancelled. Russia is not a fit place for anything that promotes peace, love and understanding because none of those principles are embraced by the Russia of Vladimir Putin.

"Note that by addressing the Duma a private citizen lobbied a foreign government against US interests. That is a violation of the Logan Act, and therefore a chargeable act of Sedition against the United States.

"These Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians are not Christians. Authentic Christians, who do not see Christianity as a vehicle to promote Republican hatred, should not be painted with the same brush, and I am not doing so. In the same way, not all Republicans are hate mongers, but almost all hate mongers are Republicans, because the Party put out the welcome mat for them.

"Needless to say, prominent Republican legislators are actively supporting this crime"

You said it TC!

I'm with Gene J - continuously putting out the Olympic flame - this is God's way of saying that the Olympics do NOT belong here!

No, Chris, that is not what Gene said. He said that Pat Robertson would have said that. You know, tha man who thinks he has a direct line to his maker, who "knew" that AIDS was "God's punishment for gays."
And, then there is Putin, of whom Bubba Bush said, "I have seen his soul, and it is good"
That does it right there. And, Bush's form of Republican horseshit begins to pale before today's.

Well, you're right, Mitch. But Chris is too, sort of. Because if God actually did interfere with the free will She gave us upon breathing life into us, well, it amuses me to think of Her as looking down at those clowns and continually blowing out that flame. Very symbolically apt for me. :^)

". . . To ever think we would get to the day that Russia would be more advanced spiritually than the United States. I mean, it’s just staggering to see what is happening to this country.” . . . Fischer has not yet commented on reports that Putin’s increasing embrace of a theological hard line has also threatened the religious freedom of evangelical Christians. "

Under communism, the Bolsheviks declared a separation of church and state and the church lost power until 1943. At that time, religion was again encouraged as a means to rally the people against Nazi Germany. But following 1957, the church was often personna non grata, shuttered, without an official voice in Russia, although there were still people who clung to the Russian Orthodox Chuch. Check out Wikipedia on this up and down relationship of church and state in Russia.

To me, it is obvious that Fischer knows nothing of the history of the church in Russia during modern times. Otherwise, he would not be saying that Russia is "more advanced spiritually" than the US. What is apparent to me is that Russia has learned to use the Church to advance its causes.

I think that Fischer thinks that if it walks like a duck and quacks, it must be a duck, but he just may have uncovered a goose. And that goose is not laying a golden egg that the right wing evangelical pseudo Christians would like to possess.

As to Bryan Brown, he should be charged and tried under the Logan Act. Only the penalty in my mind, given the seriousness of stiring up hatred for the LGBT community, should be more than 3 years.

"Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both."

Of course the Teabagger GOP loves Putin, he is doing what they are dreaming of doing here, turning Democracy into a ONE party sham. By the way, Tom, that photo is just PERFECT! It should be the official logo for the Teaparty GOP.
