So sorry that even the Broncos couldn't make you feel better, TomCat. Hang on in there.

Jeez, this economist Laurence J. Kotlikoff must be getting some of the stock the companies buy back to increase their own value to come up with this vile suggestion to give companies even more tax brakes. He thinks that if you throw in "a large-scale computer simulation model of the United States economy" people believe anything he says after that. Of course models depend on the theories the model maker adheres to and the outcome also depends on what is fed into the expensive simulations. And I would bet some stock on it that he conveniently forgot to feed the model with the harmful behaviour of companies, that is paying dividends and buying back their own stock and at the same time, cutting jobs and research spending. I bet in his model al tax cut results are pumped back in the economy. What a load of crock.

I expect Mitch McConnell had a long try-out in front of his mirror, pressing some tears from his eyes when remembering the good old days in which, as you say TomCat, the Democrats gave and the Republicans took. His tears could become real when the roles are truly reversed.

I sure hope this federal investigation into Christie's misappropriation of Sandy funds is the last nail in his coffin but at the same time I hope they'll go on to dig up ALL the dirt on this man, because there seems to be more and his Republican grave isn't deep enough yet to my taste. And how Republican of Christie to try and put the ball back in Obama's court again.

Titan should've starred in the commercials not CC.
Hope you turn the corner on the health front soon TC.
Computer simulation models require programming in a ton of assumptions about the data being used: is a trend going to continue in the data or not and if not how will it differ--you can hard code in flat rates, percent change, etc. so you can choose to get the answer you want.

We need to stop listening to what corporations say will happen, since they are always lying, and start listening to people like Robert Reich and Pail Krugman who know better.

New Jersey: the painkillers I am taking for my shoulder are tending to upset my stomach so I must leave this one alone.

Do feel better, TC!

Before any one buys what this snake oil salesman is selling look up Laurence Kotlikoff. There are just too many really well known and strong economists that strongly disagree with his thinking. We have enough problems collecting any tax from corporations, particularly the large corporations. We should now rely only on the taxes paid by the working people of the US? This reeks of partisans politics and not sound economic thinking.

There have been questions in the wind for some time now about Christie and the Sandy Relief funds, I'm glad it's being investigated.

Plenty of rest and fluids, TC - sending you feel better wishes.

Puzzle 4:24 . . . but I am definitely seeing spots before my eyes!

Alternet Citizens of any country, whether they be corporate or individual citizens, have a responsibility for and toward that country. Nobody yells "I want to pay lots more taxes!" but as citizens, we have a responsibility to pay taxes, our fair share. And that means companies too! Corporate taxes cannot be cut; subsidies to large companies like the oil and gas companies need to be done away with.

Wasn't it JFK that said "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country!"?

McLatchy DC Is't it amusing how McConnell whines when the shoe is on the other foot! I love to hear him whine because then I know something decent is happening. "RepubliSpeak Dictionary Simple Give and Take: Democrats simply give. Republicans simply take." Oh ya! How true.

ThinkProgress Christie is such a fool. Yesterday's cartoon had him perfectly cast . . . a pig at the public trough!

Cartoon Incredible picture! Since this was during Baby Bush's time in the WH, are you sure that the Cassini-Huygens wasn't actually scouting potential missile platform sites?

A lot happened between the 1980's & now there Used to be Laws.." The increasing level of stock buybacks epitomizes the transition from corporate responsibility to corporate self-indulgence. Stock buybacks are a means by which major corporations seek to manipulate the market prices of their own shares, thereby enriching executives with plentiful stock options. The buyback surge is dramatic. In 1981, 292 major corporations spent less than 3 percent of their combined net income on buybacks, but by 2007 the very same 292 corporations were spending over 82 percent of their net income repurchasing their own stock."

Tom, You missed part of the game so you must be really feeling poorly. I do hope you are under a doctors care at this point. Hope in your next post you tell us that you are better.

Helping corporations even more than we already do is a recipe for disaster. Stock buybacks, executive bonuses, not to mention what many of these corporations are doing to our environment. This Laurence fellow sounds like a mouth piece for the Republican party and any one with any sense of what is wrong with our economy will never agree to his proposals.
