Did your hosting the board meeting work out well, TomCat? If the attendants were all male, nobody may have noticed how much effort you've put into it, I fear. ;-) Lets hope they appreciated the dinner you prepared for them.

The New Yorker: I agree with you, TomCat, Andy is not reaching his usual high standard of parody. Sounds like Brewer advocates a separation of church and state, but if she's a true Republican that is highly unlikely.
It's time for PIGnocchio to come out of the mud a bit, that always brings out the best in Andy.

The Alternet: There goes my lunch again, but Cruz just proved my previous point. If everything else fails - and everything has, apparently - a true Teabagger calls on God to meddle and finish the job he couldn't handle in politics. He must be getting really desperate if this and a lot of very empty rhetoric is all he can come up with.
It seems unlikely the “State Marriage Defense Act” will make it, so how is he going to explain that the GOP's prayers for God to support discrimination weren't heard? I think Cruz has taken it just a little too far this time.

Crooks and Liars: So right wing extremism is on the rise. Who would have thought? And they have arrested three Georgia "patriots" (do you spell that with three Ks) who wanted to overthrow the government by bombing the power grids, water treatment facilities and other infrastructure. Surprisingly in a state where the GOP is trying to pass a bill allowing concealed guns just about everywhere from bars and schools to airports. But for patriots marching to the tune their GOP daddies whistle, that isn't enough, bombing is much more destructive.
Keep the hatred flowing, GOP, and more such patriots will rise to the occasion. Too bad you'll have a power black-out too, or do you have your aggregates up and running in your private bunkers?

Cartoon. I'm looking forward to my American history lesson from my colleague Open Tread followers.

Every time they open their mouths they sound more like Hitler.

I completed the beautiful shell puzzle in 15:9 which is 1:8 better than yesterday's puzzle.

Thanks TC – hope the meeting went well!

Crooks and Liars – those three gibbering loons discussed WHAT on Facebook? Well I do thank God they are so stupid – sadly a lot of evil isn't. TC – I tried to look up Marbury vs Madison but it got too complicated for my remaining brain cells – sorry, I need more rest.

Have just read Lona G's post on C2 – I couldn't better that if I tried – brilliant – thanks Lona!

I'm surprised the GA rednecks knew how to get on FB, let alone post.... they would never, however, realize that killing a power grid would also kill their own power.

How I wish Brewer had simply said, "hell, no, I'm not ever signing such a stupid and ridiculous bill". There must be some kind of brain-eating virus out there, don't you think?

6:02 Introverts don't really take well to coming out of our shells.

New Yorker - Well, Andy's satire would fit probably 99 out of 100 pseudo-libertarian "small government" Tea Baggers. But I agree Jan Brewer is a different breed of rat. It's still funny though.

Alternet - TC, I must give you great credit for, every week, being able to pick just one of the crazy statements from all the crazy statements that Republicans make. I don't know if I could do it. Thanks for giving us the link so we can see for ourselves.

Crooks and Liars: If Homeland Security is smart enough to realize that right wing extremism is both on the rise and violent, they ought to back off on progressive groups protesting peacefully and concentrate on the right. And quit blaming progressives for inciting the right by wanting perfectly reasonable gun control. Huh. Like THAT would ever happen.

Cartoon: Dear John Adams, I love him (and, more to the point, Abigail loved him, so he MUST have had SOMETHING going for him) but he never did grasp the Constitution, did he? That said, kudos to Marshall. It's d***ed difficult to write a decision where you know the right thing to do but the available documents skirt around it and never give you EXACTLY the justification you are wanting. And then make the decision stick. Was it really Constitutional? Hard to say ... but it was desperately needed. And I say that even though the current SCROTUS 5 make a mockery of it daily. We won't have them forever.

And Pat A - Right on. Lona G is a real asset to the comments, always.

I vaguely recall that some of the evidence in the Unibomber's trial suggested influence of statements by public figures. The timing cited for the Facebook trio makes me wonder whether there will be similar evidence in their cases given some statements I saw in the media from public figures about that time.

It is amazing to me that Brewer would try to limit those who seemed to be following her lead and example.

This series begs the question of whether people ought to be judged by the company they keep (vs. those who seek to distance themselves from those people perhaps).

Hope the meeting and hosting went well with no ill after-effects.

Andy, Andy, Andy......this was not one of his better postings. Angel of Death Brewer.....I like that description for her! I am just so sick of this gay-hate bigotry....just get over it already and move the **** on. But the reichwingers cannot do that it seems. I think it is a genetic disease they all have. Seriously....if they cannot hate some thing or some one or some idea....they cannot function.....kinda like....zombies. They only animate to eat, yeah, they are zombies. They (teabaggin' evangelfascists) animate only to HATE.

Pray away the gay.....really, Crackhead? Realllllllllllllllllllllllllly? He's down to his last Hail Mary pass with this. News flash, Crackhead....the ONLY people that you and your kind are hurting are the CITIZENS who are NOT allowed the CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to the pursuit of happiness. That's GASP Gay people and another GASP, Lesbians and yet another GASP Transgendered persons who CANNOT MARRY....because of the likes of YOU. And just how, prey tell, does their getting married, GASP, to eachother, destroys ANYONE ELSE????? Explain that one to me, Crackhead. Because it DOES NOT.

OK, getting off my soapbox before the thought of Crackhead Cruz and Teabagging Brownshirts cause me a heart attack. I so despise them......

Because, Lona, Cruz truly BELIEVES he is 'anointed by God' to bring this country back to the Bible (their version of course).

Well said, Gloria, green star!
Alter Net: What an embarrassment Cruz (and others) is!! When God gets word of this, she is not gonna be happy, and she'll be moving faraway out of Texas.
Cartoon: In a unanimous decision, written by Justice Marshall,(1803 ),the Court stated that Marbury, indeed, had a right to his commission, as justice of the peace for the District of Columbia. - Ultimately, Marshall would declare that the Judiciary Act of 1789 that was passed by Congress was unconstitutional and would, therefore, be rendered invalid. In the case of Marbury v. Madison, Marbury would lose the litigation and never take the position of Justice of Peace that was originally appointed to him. -

Thanks everyone. The AZ Republicans asking her not to sign it are running scared. They actually claim that they had no idea it would discriminate.

The meeting went well. The dinner was a hit. See the Open Thread I'll be uploading in a few. I'm pooped!!

Thanks for the great post, TomCat. As for the three Georgia “Patriots”, I'm surprised they're not being charged as terrorists, for that is exactly what they are.

If you had'nt specified it was the
New Yorker, I may have thought
that was really a direct quote from
the addled governor.
Not feeling too clammy about my
time as it was just over average.
