If you are will be voting in a Democratic area of a Republican controlled state, you can count on experiencing long lines with hours of waiting. Republicans are doing everything they can to keep you from voting. However, I came across a new Republican tactic so egregious that it boggles the mind.

Given what passes for choice these days, it will come as no surprise that the best place to go on election day is a bar.

This is beyond disgusting!

If they want to stop people voting then that must make everyone all the more determined to vote!

Take folding chairs and a picnic (no alcohol – don't want to give them an excuse not to let you in), play parlour games to pass the time – and don't let them beat you – or they will be beating you for decades to come!

"Instead, he received a written response announcing that the county would close all restrooms at polling places “to ensure that individuals with disabilities are not treated unfairly,” a January email stated."

Don't you just love how Republicans SAY the opposite of what they MEAN, like, all the time. It reminds me of something I've read and heard often, but remember most recently from rereading the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. As Henrik Vanger describes his family, he talks about how three of his brothers came under the influence of the Nazi movement and says something to the effect of "don't you find it interesting that tyrants always manage to co-opt the word Freedom?" They do, as do our their modern day counterparts. The freedom society is nothing about freedom at all apart from trying to restrict it. So, closing the restrooms for everyone is to ensure people with disabilities are not treated differently. Uh huh. That must be it. Rick Scott is disgusting and I'll bet he doesn't have to stand in much of a line at all. Nor any other republican primate. But those long lines of poor Democrats will. I hope all their buses have restrooms and people bring along a gallon jug, of course, then they'll be arrested for public indecency, when the truth is the lack of decency is behind this, and all other voter suppression movements. That's what is truly disgusting. Pretending this is to help people, while knowing it is the opposite, is a republican through and through. They really do have a lot in common with the old Swedish Freedom League - that which was the Swedish branch of Hitler's party. They live on in today's Republican party, without shame. But shameful they are indeed.

Of course the decision to close all public toilet facilities to make it 'more equal' can't be remotely legal, not even in Dade, Florida. So Democrats get your act together in Florida. Appeal this decision - Dubin gives more than enough reasons - and if that doesn't help, rent some of those festival vans that are mobile bathrooms and park them near the polling stations. Go around the block every now and again if necessary. Rent some chairs too. Don't take this lying down, do something.

So opposite to Biblical guidance of who one is supposed to do more to help and include in addition to totally inconsistent with ADA chapter and verse and established case law...also looks like a make everyone have to fight extra battles to give them less resources to get out the vote.

A totally new low in GOP behavior! It makes Animal Farm seem like their primer, bunch of pigs!
It is sooo important to elect a Democratic Governor in the next election in Florida, which has so much impact on federal elections.

They had better be checking their building code regulations or any other state laws about the providing of public restrooms in a public place. I think it is time for the Democratic Party to start some lawsuits against these states that are blatantly trying to make it difficult to vote. In a country that is supposed to be "free", when you have to fight for the right to use a public restroom, there is no question that the country is not actually free. If anyone had any doubts about what has happened in this country, those doubts should be long gone after this move by the party of the "Massas".

Pat A's suggestion to have a picnic is wonderful, but doesn't go far enough. Folding chairs? How about folding potty chairs? And I'm wanting to say make sure the picnic includes asparagus and plenty of fiber. Of course that could cause the voters themselves to suffer also, and it's up to them whether they think it's worth it. But they could really make a stink about this literally if they choose.

I'm feeling like the dog in your cartoon, TomCat.....every time I think the GOP can't possibly get more vile, more moronic or more disgusting, they prove me wrong.

Besides....if any Fascist/Fundy/Bagger even looks like they are going to accost would be the last thing they do in this lifetime. :)

Did anyone miss moi? I just made it back from the Land that Computers Forgot. My Puter died but it was resurrected by hubby from cannibalized parts from other dead puters in the house. I not only have FrankenDawgs, I also have Frankenputers! :) So, I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.

Why am I not surprised that Florida would do this? Nevermind the thousands of elderly who live there who might want to vote and have weak bladders. Surely someone will change this one. Yuck.

"… the county would close all restrooms at polling places “to ensure that individuals with disabilities are not treated unfairly,” a January email stated."

This is so lame-assed! Anybody who can't see through this is 3 fries short of a Happy Meal! Everybody is treated unfairly to ensure more problems at polling stations, and fewer votes for Democrats. I think there needs to be a 'johnny on the spot'!

I saw a petition on this issue which just popped up, I think on Daily Kos but I couldn't find it when I went back.

Thanks everyone.

I have no doubt that Democrats will challenge this ruling and win. It still serves as an example of the kind of fascist tyranny that will stand, unle4ss we keep Republicans out of power by electing Democrats.

Is this a JOKE?!!! No decent person would try a stunt like that, not even an idiot. I'm sure that would break a number of laws and lawsuits would be flying. Unbelievable!
