Here is the fiftieth article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is Johann Breyer. He is so honored for his activities in a former incarnation of today’s Republican Party.

"The best thing about this is that there will be one less Republican vote on 11/4." ~ that made me laugh out loud, Tom..... I guess every cloud does have a silver lining....

It angers me that these war criminals get caught when they are so old and frail that they either do not get detained or tried because of health reasons or simply pass away before they get sentenced or send to jail. Chances are that Johann Breyer will die fighting his extradition.
On the other hand, it at least lets the survivors know that nobody gets away with it, not even when they are 89 years old. You're never to old to be held accountable for wrongdoings of this magnitude. Something Dick Cheney should take at heart.

Many have died without ever being outed. They kept a very low profile. I appreciate TC raising this profile. Lona is right that he may well die in custody. Either way he won't vote in November.

"...German authorities have charged Breyer with complicity in the murder of over 216,000 European Jews from Hungary, Germany, and Czechoslovakia, who were forcibly deported to the Auschwitz II-Birkenau concentration camp on 158 trains between May and October 1944."
That is one hell of a legacy isn't it? Complicity in the murder of over 216,000 people. Most of us aren't ever complicit in even one. There should be a special place for such as this, the mega criminals that have populated the planet from time to time. The only useful purpose they serve is to show us what we are not. Them. And, I guess, what humanity at its worst is capable of. It seems the world has needed that reminder every couple hundred years, but gawd I do wish that weren't so. Since we are so inept at history however, we do seemed doomed to keep repeating it. As in evidence the world over right now. This time the climate is at war with us too and we earned that as well through the complicity of the 1%'s greed and complete lack of morality or concern for others or the planet or anything really but their own pile of money. I thought Scrooge McDuck an odd character when I was a child, little did I know then that I would grow up to find many real life human versions of him the world over. But without his, in the end, soft heart.

I believe that Bush has been charged with war crimes, and that there is at least one European country he can't go to for rear of arrest.
I'm with you, Kathleen.
I very recently read "Hitler, a Biography, by Ian Kershaw, and today, began Albert Speer's "Inside the Third Reich," by coincidence.
I hope this bag of puss lives to see himself charged.

"You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time. But you cannot fool all of the people all of the time."
I think Breyer forgot about that and it caught up with him, thank goodness. Looking at his picture in the video, he looks pretty good for a man of 89 years. I wonder what he would say about how those in the camps looked?
Breyer needs to be held accountable for his role in that dark time of history.
Bush was also told by the London, UK Lord Mayor that if he set foot in London, he would be arrested. This was at the time of the London Summer Olympics. And if I recall correctly, Switzerland has declared Bush personna non grata. Canada should have arrested him under international laws that it is subject to when he was here, but Harper, our dear "Republican" Prime Minister failed to do so.
