Working horse puzzle time; 5:32.

I stick to my guns on Afghanistan and Iraq. If we had not gone there they would have killed each other.

Lordy, I'm sick of Republicans and Supreme Court decisions and wars and politicians!! That cross gives me a lot of ideas of what to do with all of them. Once again, Andy is too close to the truth to be funny - and once again, Congress would sooner cut off all their noses than do anything that might make Obama look good.

You did good buying this particular A/C, TomCat, it seems to have enough capacity to let you enjoy your catnaps even if it gets hotter than this. The fact that you have moved to a higher standard building, that is probably better insulated and doesn’t have power failures every other day, may also add to your comfort.

The New Yorker: This satire has the strength of battery acid, Andy. It eats away all the BS Justice Samuel Alito has produced – and is still producing, by the way – to explain away and gloss over SCOTUS’ epic mistake. “[] SOME women [] may have some claim to being people” LMAO to keep the anger in.

Upworthy: Thanks for posting this excellent video, TomCat. You mention you would have liked to see Bush and his cronies get more ‘credit’ but this video was made for the European market to begin with, and since Britain joined the US in invading Iraq and many European countries soon followed to ‘protect and rebuild’ it, it would have been too much for this concise video to give every government the credit it is due.
The video was made by Kurzgesagt (, which is a German artist collective, which has made all kinds of interesting video’s on different topics, but with three must-watch for Republicans: “Fracking explained”, “How evolution works”, The Gulf Stream & Climate Change. The first and the last target the European market a tad more, but Evolution is generic ;-)

The New York Times: I really hope this isn’t going to become a yearly ritual. The GOP should know by now that Obama and the Democrats have learned from last time that standing strong and not giving in to blackmail is much more advantageous to them and will only help to weaken the GOP further. Oh, sorry, it’s Democrats that learn from mistakes, not the GOP of course. So we’ll have to wait and see.

Cartoon: If not there already, than certainly knocking on your door. Worrying picture.

Thanks Lona for the context and source information about the video--that kind of information is often illuminating like here.
Given that National Park projects are also funded by the transportation fund at issue, I can see many in the TP seeing that as reason enough to stop the funding.
I sure wish more of the religious right would carry their crosses as Jesus intended rather than such a symbolic literal vision.

5:45 Slow, slow. Hey, I don't like to overwork animals.

New Yorker - Wow. I can'r add a thiung. Except maybe the SCROTUS, and the entire Republican party, needs to come out of the closet and start openly referring to women as "wiggers." (And I am not referring to hair.)

Upworthy - Yeah. What's the expression? "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind"?

NY Times - I for one HOPE they Rethuglicans won't work it out. And I hope their failure is very, very public. I don't want to hurt anyone, but I am terrified lest they do something remotely reasonable. That could cost the Democrats votes.

Cartoon - OK, I'm confused. I thought it was supposed to come wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross. Instead, it seems to be carrying the-cross-wrapped-in-the-flag. Is politics now commutative like math?

New Yorker: Andy has his 'Bite On' today.!! Funny, entertaining, and so very true.!
Upworthy: Really good video. Very scary indeed. Thanks, Lona for the info on the other videos.
So glad to read that your AC is working good. I don't know what I'd do if ours ever went out, it's a pretty old unit. Company due in this evening, so will be grilling and chillin' at the same time tomorrow. Have a safe and Happy Holiday, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

Glad you have good AC , sorry your temps are so high. We had a lovely day in Kentucky, and will have another tomorrow, hope I get to work outside.

The New Yorker: Andy sums up the Republican opinion of women. I still dont understand how ANY woman could follow the GOP.

Upworthy: I wonder how Dubya sleeps at night, probably because he still thinks he did a good thing by invading Iraq. It is unfathonable that the Iraqi's had better lives under Sadaam than they do now.

NY Times: Surely, if the Repubs shut down the government again even the most avid Teapartier will realize the cost to our country by these obstructionists.

Cartoon: As long as the Bush five remain on duty, facism has a better chance of ruling us all.

Glad the AC is working better than at the old place. I could have done with some a few days ago when the temp hit 30 C, even hotter upstairs in my place. The babes are like me, not fond of hot temps.

Puzzle — 3:06 Puddy tat, would you speed up your horses so mine done crash into your carriage.

The New Yorker — That the right wing sees women as chattels undeserving of rights and protections is very evident in their legislative approach to women's issues. Just this whole debacle called "Hobby Lobby" is proof of their wanton disregard of women's rights. Andy, you hit another homerun.

Upworthy — You have to think that if the US and Iran are thinking of working together to counter ISIS, things are really, really, really bad. Baby Bush and Cheney et al must be very proud of what they created that everyone else has to clean up.

NY Times — "Failure to act in a few crucial cases could imperil the fragile economic recovery. " Now there's a news flash! The congressional Republicanus/Teabaggers (heavy on the Teabaggers!) don't give a rat's ass about the economy. They have proven before that they are prepared to willingly sacrifice the American economy and the welfare of the American people on the altar of ideology and greed. Whether they will try to play chicken with the Obama administration in October when the election is so close is debatable. I think the Teabaggers on the other hand would make the sacrifice. The American people deserve better than this band of riff-raff! Anyone who votes for the Republicanus/Teabaggers is delusional. Obama and the Democrats have to stand their ground against this domestic terrorist group . . . the Republicanus/Teabaggers.

Cartoon — I'm not sure that I totally understand the cartoon. However, if the US becomes a pseudo Christian theocratic state (the right wing has no understanding of true Christianity), it is no different than other world theocracies that it denounces. I have absolutely no confidence in freedom of religion if the US becomes a pseudo Christian state. All atheists and all other religions would be mocked and abused.

Budget and another govt shut down ... I would love to see some liberals explaining very plainly, maybe even with graphs, on major media outlets, why we have the huge deficit we have today. Bush tax cuts to the rich for starters ... and then, of course, there's the Iraq oil takeover. Who benefited from the oil deal? Well, of course, that would be the huge oil corps and all who have stock in those companies. The same ones who now refuse to pay taxes so that we can pay for the war which they all got so rich because of. A graph of who owns how much and how much their stock has jumped since the Iraq war would be interesting to see.
