Here is the fifty-fourth article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is Maricopa County Sheriff, Joe Arpaio. He is so honored for suggesting that the US invade another sovereign nation.

Hmmm, amassing troops on another country's border, where have we seen that become a problem in recent months? The suggestion that we invade another country is so irresponsible that it ought be grounds for immediate recall. Sheriff Joe has been the biggest fool in law enforcement for many years, an embarrassment to the profession and America. I would suggest that Mexico's president is not attending the summit because he is making a statement about the presence of armed troops on his border. The very idea that they ought cross the border, not to mention the ludicrous idea of having armed troops babysit children, is so stupid I find it hard to believe he actually would say that out loud. Isn't that what Putin did? Isn't that how Russian troops got into the Ukraine beginning what has been a months long period of terror, chaos and death in the Ukraine?

he truth is Sheriff Joe epitomizes the right wing today, though I suspect many will be backing away from his comments during the day as fast as they can. Sheriff Joe and his "posse" can talk a flying leap. He's so far been known mostly for his harsh treatment of prisoners and his hatred of even legal immigrants, but he takes idiocy to a new level with that little tirade. I hope the voters of Maricopa county retire him as soon as possible - which will certainly happen when Arizona becomes less than half white in the early 20's. I just don't see any reason to wait that long. An imbecile of that order should NOT be holding any kind of public office nor should any local country sheriff be making foreign policy - that man's ego knows no bounds, nor does his meager intellect make his state or county look good. He does deserve the honor TC. And a lot more than that.

Boy, you can fill your parade with 'noteworthy' Republicans on a daily basis, TomCat, and all deserve it.The Maricopa County Sheriff, Joe Arpaio, sadly is no exception. It is not the first time this bag of foul wind is mentioned on Politics Plus and each time the things he says or does that time around is even more outrageous than the time before. This man should not be County Sheriff; this man should not be allowed to be in charge of anything. Period. No need to discuss that further.

The whole interview was one uninformed statement after another lie, one made-up conspiracy after another attack on Obama, one xenophobic bigotry after another hate-induced delusion. The best thing would be to let Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his posse ride across the border into Mexico, and inform the Mexicans that a stray, unauthorised bunch of vigilantes are coming their way, and that they are welcome to them. The Mexican army will welcome them with open arms.

OMD...It's Joe-Joe, the Dawg-faced man...it walks, it talks, it crawls on its belly like a reptile....it's Joe-Joe, the Dawg-faced man.

Sigh......how about we just deport him to the border and he can invade Mexico at his leisure......what a frikken marooooooooon.

Sheriff Joe is a prime example of the Wacko Republicans of today. They all must be on some kind of stupid or delusional causing drugs to come out with ideas like invading another country. Gene's comments are on target.

One wonders whether he would not have been QUITE so stupid had his mother lived - but she died when he was born (which seems to me eerily prophetic of a lifelong war on women later extended to other minorities). I was looking him up to see whether childhood exposure to lead could have been a factor, but that is not provable one way or the other from what I could find quickly.

And nothing explains the stupidity of the voters who RE-elected him FIVE TIMES.

Given the investigations finding him guilty of violating the law I am amazed that he is not behind bars himself and has not been forced to resign; given his disregard for the law, nothing he says should be credible and one should expect his recommendations to routinely ignore and violate laws.

I think Joe Arpaio and Scalia were twin brothers in another life! I wish they'd both just dry up and fade away!

He talks about working with Mexico to fight drugs but what no one wants to mention is that we, as a nation, are financing the worlds drug trafficking. Every time someone buys drugs they are responsible for the deaths of thousands of people. No one talks about the cash flowing from white collar drug users with plenty of money. It's NOT cool to use cocaine or heroin. It's not cool to get high from dangerous drugs. As for immigration policy, the immigration problem is CLEARLY the fault of a stupid and politically motivated Republican congress.

Okaaaaay. Do any normal people pay him any heed? Only in ignorant parts of AZ (don't want to attack Tucson) -and probably TX(Austin excused) - do they think he should wander around freely and unmedicated.

Many great comments!
But, as I read them, I realized that the entire culture has missed the true conspiracy behind the Right Wing Nuts: Al their impeccable imbecility is a front designed for feeding straight lines to OUR WONDERFUL Tomcat!

Well, he is from the same state as John McCain. It gets really, really hot in Maricopa County. The sun seems to have fried a few brains.

Joe Arpaio, a genuine Murikkken warmongerer!

After reading this article and then reading up on Sheriff Joe in Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Arpaio), it is very clear that he is a narcissistic asshole that has no business being the sheriff. How the people of Maricopa County could elect him 6 times just blows the mind.

I nominated him Asshole of the Day.

Joe Arpaio

WOW & Unbelievable - after reading up on Joe Arpaio in the wikipedia link in Lynn's comment box above, Joe needs to be sent to prison for a taste of his own brand of prison conditions. Maybe Joe will luck out and fall over before he is ever "convicted" and sent to prison. Joe is unfit to be any kind of law enforcement agent as he now "suffers" from being a pure narcissistic asshole. lol.

Joe Arpio is a man who would be better replaced by Deputy Dawg as he clearly has forgotten that the sheriff's office is an agency for upholding the law, rather than a vehicle for promoting his own personal brand. So after sending a pair of pink panties to Sarah Palin, which is just really creepy. Still, declaring war on Mexico may have some interesting results like how long before Sherif Joe is found either in several bin bags or finding out what Mexican law enforcement is like.
