This is almost a complete republish of last years article. In recent years, I’ve greeted friends with Happy Earth Day. We were beginning to recognize the importance of climate change and take steps to minimize the damage. But that was before less than 1/4 of American eligible voters got away with installing Donald Trump in the White House and giving the Republican Reich control of both branches of Congress. God help us!

And Trump's announcement today for to mark Earth Day was regulatory roll back of things that let us address Deepwater Horizon as fast and fully as we did, that proved way too slow, not enough and ineffective in unpredicted ways.

So very, very sad.
Yea, there's nothing to celebrate here. Or anywhere for that matter. What a crying shame. I'm old(er) now, and the impacts of climate change are there, even tho' dt i(and his minions) are in denial over that. My concerns are climate changes, oil drilling on pristine lands, think Arctic, and the Wildlife refuges, the national parks, plastic in our oceans, smog, car emissions, and the list goes on and on. Oh! and the fires here every year now. The wanton disregard to the needs of our Mother Earth by politicians, and those who are greedy, is reprehensible.

Depressingly, what are we leaving for our grandchildren and future generations, if this continues??
Nothing.

Yes, things are getting worse - but that trend does not have to continue. Make sure you are registered to vote, make sure all your progressive kith and kin who are at least 18 are registered, volunteer at a voter registration drive, support genuinely progressive candidates, and above all, get your arse to the polls and vote with your head! Volunteer to help others get to polling places. WE THE PEOPLE have the ultimate power in this country, but it works only when we use it, and furthermore, when we use it WISELY.

This year Mother Earth has even more reasons to weep than the year before, but it is telling that there are no recent protest videos to be found. The Drumpf administration is creating such havoc on every possible level and subject that resistance has to be spread thin across it all. At the moment Pruitt’s personal ego-trip and expenditures attract more attention than all the different ways he, as spearhead of this administration, is f***ing Mother Earth and us. All the more reason to cry and be thankful to those who remember Earth Day – thank you TomCat – and those who joined the many communities that took the lead promoting action to end plastic pollution this year.

I was working at the zoo yesterday and was encouraged to see all the families taking part in our Earth Day presentations! There's a bit of hope...if we can take back control of the EPA, etc.

Our pastor at church holds dual Canadian-US citizenship and said he delights in bragging about Canada’s approach to many things like healthcare for one. But one thing he does not brag about is our progress with the environment. As he noted, we have nothing to brag about as we are 3rd from the bottom of developed countries. However, the US is dead last! . . . and only sliding further and further down . . . pulling away at light speed from every other country.

As our church sign says, “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children and grandchildren.” Some have attributed this to Chief Seattle 1786-1866, but it may be much older than that or it could belong to another. No matter its origin, it is a very wise statement that should be heeded.

After church, I went to Cora’s for lunch. They use bio-degradable take out containers, not plastic. Each order is made on the spot to reduce food waste. They separate all waste into recyclable, garbage and food and heaven help the employee that goofs. I made a point of telling them yesterday that I appreciate all this. There are big things that need to be done, like regulations for a sustainable earth, but there are also little things that each of us can do too.

Resist, Persist, Remove!!!

Silence is Consent!!!

An abomination! Only the greedy can turn their blind eyes to the horrific ignorance and harm being done for the sake of the holy almighty dollar~ If this isn't the epitome of how love of money is the gateway to all other human failings, errors, destructive actions, lack of true intelligence, and eventually, a place we could equate with hell. On earth. I want the positive voices to rise above this moment in our human history, to achieve an even higher level of protections, respect for our elements, comprehending the sources of free and clean energies, and a future of homo sapiens that have learned that prosperity is all inclusive. Otherwise, the love of money is the end of life as we comprehend it today. I believe we can restore health to our home: Earth*
