Naomi Klein: Big Oil's Iraq Deals Are the Greatest Stick-Up in History

World  (tags: iraq, occupation, oil )

After years of backroom arm-twisting, Iraq is flinging open half of its known oil reserves to foreign corporations on terms of unheard of favourability due to the risks that were caused precisely by the invasion of the country, argues Naomi Klein.

This is a great article, Dave, even if the facts are so disheartening, enraging, disgusting !

When we know that something like $23billion supposedly earmarked for the reconstruction of Iraq was simply lost, stolen and/or unaccounted for; that Iraqis still don't have basic services, like water or electricity, hospitals and health care, security and safety; that US military intervention and occupation destroyed and then failed to restore them,
hearing the views of the conservative talk show host Naomi Klein paraphrases about 'just taking the oil - it is only just dues, after the 'great investment' we made in liberating them ! is just sickening !

In case you haven't seen it, there is a post of a recent Klein speech on video, that was not allowed the exposure it deserved :

Naomi Klein's Controversal Speech

You may not find that it is very controversial, may wonder why it was censored, and finally may not agree with her idea to vote Obama into office and only then pressure him to do the right - read 'progressive'- things, but it's worth watching. There are a lot of comments, too.
